i am getting some vibration at about 2000rpm at move off for couple of seconds and then it stops. basically when i am driving it seems like its coming from directly under the handbrake.

i have changed the cross and bearings and the centre line rubber/damper/bearings. Dont know if the replaced rubber was faulty or there is some other problem.

anyone that has experienced this and can give me some ideas as to what i can do to stop this?

What car is this for?

I have a similar problem on my GTS4. ws told it was a rooted transfer box.

Could be unbalanced driveshaft.. But I have heard this is quite rare unless something has hit it and it has moved recently

Is this only in 1st gear at 2000rpm or all gears at 2000rpm.

If it's only in first, what speed is it at?

Is the clutch fully out?

A vibration froma drive shaft is very rare, unless serious damage was done to the car, example drifted into a gutter or the like. I put the entire left side of my car into a guard rail at 100km/h, walk-away accident, had the car repaired, and I am still driving on the same shafts, no damage to the drive line at all other than suspension.

What type of car is it, a GTS4 or a GTR?

if it's only during take-off and never any other time (example, hard change from 1st to 2nd), chances are you might have a warped fly-wheel shuddering as the clutch comes into contact with it.

If it's the tail-shaft bouncing due to the worn rubber, then you would also have the issue in all other gear changes as well, due to the gearbox changing force on the shaft.

well in observing why i picked the rubber

in any gear at that slow speed it would happen but i guess the faster the shaft is spinning the more it gets in unicy or spinning on the dime. at very high high speeds i can feel a little little bit of it happening

on the other hand i took off the centre line rubber and filled it with urethane and the vibration got very rigid not only at low rpm and speed but for even higher speeds and rpm until i go very fast.

You've had all the universals, centre bearing and centre bearing support rubber replaced?

The stock uni's are peened in, so all this work must have been done by a driveline workshop?

Since all the obvious items have been replaced, presumably by professionals who will have also done a full shaft balance, the only thing left is they may have bolted the centre uni out of phase with the front when bolting the 2-piece shaft together.

Worth checking your gearbox mount too.

when you say out of phase with the front your talking when putting the small piece of shaft back to the longer piece? if so isnt the holes peered together to fit?

    • Adjusting the idle screw is usually (emphasis on usually) just covering up deeper issues. Stuff like the cold start valve not closing properly. Throttle shaft seals on the way out. Coolant temp sensors getting out of spec. Coolant temp sensors especially can be a bear to diagnose because they can fail subtly. My dad just spent weeks chasing down his high idle. He cleaned the coolant temp sensor and everything but the resistance curve just drifts over time and if it's been 20+ years they also get super slow to respond as well. Has a massive effect on fuel economy as if it's off the ECU is going to run richer and command high idle for far longer than it should otherwise.
    • How old is the battery, it's more likely your battery is on its way out.

    • Hey all, I did a voltage test with the car (video attached) not running for 3 days. And here is some interesting stuff: - Battery voltage is 12v (I had the key in the ON position) - Drops to 9.76v while cranking then quickly goes up to 14.5v - You will notice there was a sorta slow start but not as slow as it usually is. - Idle surprisingly was better at just over 1,000rpm instead of 1,100 rpm. - I turned on the A/C, radio and headlights in the video and the voltage remains the same - I haven't cleaned the grounding wires on the chassis yet, that's next. - Battery drops to 12.6v when I turn off the car and wait a bit Seems like I might have a parasitic draw? I do have an immobiliser system which does drain the battery more of course but was wondering if there is anything else I should be looking at fixing?     • My lord that is some low oil pressure as minimum in the manual! I guess the big part will be seeing how it changes as the engine gets more spirited use.
