Is it possible to replace the head deck in a 2003 stagea, it seems to be integrated with the AC system, etc.. appreciate any advice as current unit is dead and I'd prefer to have a more modern cd player/ipod control unit in the car..

Cheers

EDIT: All I really want is to be able to plug a 3.5mm jack into my iPhone.. that would work fine.. but can it be done?

?? which model?

I have a 2003 rs four and have recently replaced the standard (crap) head unit. is it just a single DIN unit you have?

the only difference from any other car is that you need an antenna adaptor - but most audio shops have these.

Cool, thanks for the responses guys.. will snap some pics of the dash - but basically it's a slot load cd (6 disc changer) in the dash - all seems to be integrated, but I think it's a single din.

Does that mean I can simply connect a 3.5 cable from my iPhone to the antenna signal and get a good qlty connection? Cause I've never found a decent quality fm transmitter for the iPhone. Would certainly make for a decent cheap solution!

Cheers,

Adam

do you have navi? if so that makes life easy. OR if you can find someone over that way that sells connects two or Neo products then you can get control of the ipod you have.

as for replacing it, that is a $700 AUD exercise in panels, parts and interfaces (assuming bose here.)

i went to look at another Stagea m35 for sale today. the ad said Bose stereo, but it had no subwoofer in the spare wheel and it had the single DIN unit under the three gauges with no branding on it whatsoever.

Can someone post pics of the bose system please.

then it wasnt a bose item. trust me you do not want the bose audio in one. if the unit breaks (and they do quite regularly.) then its a massive exercise to change and quite expensive to fix. the CD stacker is $600-700 to repair properly. if the unit dies it takes the AC control system with it.

what you are looking at now is a better option.

which headunit is the Bose unit? the integrated one or the single DIN one which sits under the 3 gauges?

Can someone post a pic of the Bose unit please?

integrated dash with bose written on the tape door.

cheers, i'll take your advice as i keep looking. i really like the 3 gauges anyway so i like what I'm hearing.

the car I saw today had 53000kms, 2002 250t RS4 in silver, from a dealer just complied so 12 months rego, 3 year warranty (24/7 aftermarket warranty). no options, cloth interior, no sunroofs, but retains xenon lights and has the tv (birdview/xanavi) $18k.

Has to get somethings repaired on it before they will sell though, like a sensor for the AWD system and the TV won't slide back into the dash so i'm not sure whats going on really. Its a bit rough around the edges, paint isn't perfect and it has a few marks inside on the dash.

I think i'll keep looking but its good to see whats out there.

Good idea.

could you even option the bose system on an RS?? no RS had integrated stereo AFAIK as it took the place of the gauges. only RX, ARX and AXIS had tht option

I've never seen one setup that way from factory. that said I have seen them with non bose integrated dash panels. cannot remember what version it was though.

how come the RX come more 'optioned up'? aren't they simply the jacked up 'outback' version with flares?

I would love rear air con vents although I can live without the electric, heated leather seats and bose (by the sounds of it) but the grey flares on the RX really turn me off.

    • Agreed it actively wants to kill you which I love driving fast cars slow is my stick
    • Awesome! I was thinking S14 since they are longer. I'll give those a shot. Thanks for the input!
    • Far out, that thing looks like some loose fun!  Nothing beats the rawness of a filthy old Nissan with zero aids to keep the wheels pointing in the right direction like modern "fast" cars!
    • If there is no ridge at the inner edge of the battery tray (ie the battery tray is flat until it rolls off the edge into the open space of the bay), then no, it won't matter if it overhangs. If the battery would be propped up by any ridge, then that wouldn't be ideal. The bottom of the battery case would not be sharing the load. It would be concentrated on one end edge and a line across the bottom where it contacts the ridge. And possibly it wouldn't fit under the locking clamp either. I only upsized my battery to the max because: I sometime have to leave my car undriven for weeks at a time while I am away for work. On the previous battery (replaced a couple of months ago) I had to leave it undriven for months at a time!! I sometimes abuse the battery by running the stereo up loud for many hours while I wash and polish it. This is how I realised that the previous battery was on its last legs, because it got to the point where it was too weak to start after a couple of such. It was 7 years old though, so, fair play. Supercheap had a good special so the X was only ~$250 instead of ~$320, which seemed sufficiently less painful. I had already been using NS70 for the previous 2 batteries for most of the same reasons as above. The X is just the final boss level. I was contemplating going LiFePO4. But it's like $900 to do that properly, and while you save >10 kg of weight, you can likely only expect a couple of years longer life. So meh. Maybe when the price comes down further. Although, in ~7 years when I have to replace this one, I might not be allowed to drive such an anti-social vehicle anyway.
    • If I get a larger battery and it hangs off the edge of the frame rail, would this be an issue? With FMIC a lot of people downgrade their battery size due to less room for shit, was wondering if it would affect anything but it would still be tight via the clamp.
