Hey i aquired a cusco 6/7 point rollcage for my r33 and i ran into a bitch of a problem ... it wont fit in cos i have a sunroof and it makes the headliner sit down lower. I done a bit of searching on the net and it seems that East Bear has a rollcage for a sunroof equipped r33, when ordering you just specify if you have a sunroof and they will send you the sunroof model ..

Damn im so pissed that it doesnt fit. And b4 anyone says "why do you need a rollcage for .. blah blah weight... etc etc" i can almost guarantee that if you got it as cheep as i did and you seen how mad it lookes (virtualy brand new) i bet you would have got it too ..

At first i thought i could just maybe get a new middle made up and the rest would fit but im not too sure now after takin the sunroof out to see how much lower i need it ..

So what do i do ... i wouldnt even consider buying one new from East Bear cos i bet they are very very pricey. So i thought that maybe some importers may have one that they have taken out of a car to get it complianced.. What do you hink my chances are ??

Also if anyone out there has a sunroof in there car with a rollcage in it i would be foreva in your debt it you could take heaps of pics of it for me so i can get a rough idea of how it all sits ..

So does anyone got one (fingers crossed) or know where i could get on to fit my car ?????????????????????

you COULD find someone with an R33 that wants a sunroof and sway roofs with them... well with lot of welding...

either that or go to a pipe bender and get em to bend around the sunroof :D

you cant go wrong with a good rollcage, i have one in my 180 and the difference in chassis stiffness is easily noticable. I would get someone to look at it and modify it, it must be do-able if someone else has one available. Or you could sell this one for more han you bought it for and buy the expensive one :D

Sounds like a good safety investment.....

Sort of off topic but it depends what you use the car for. I was talking to my engineer about this and he said the RTA generally don't like them on the road because they increase the chance of injury to the occupants (ie striking the roll cage) in the majority of accidents (collisions). Racing however is a different situation.

    • From the pictures I have when doing the job the flywheel is the same diameter, I don't think they're playing weird tricks like putting weights at the outer diameter to increase flywheel inertia or anything like that. The OEM flywheel is definitely heavier, but it's not a huge difference. Quoted weight savings of the clutch is 2 kg so I can't imagine the flywheel being lighter than ~7 kg. Kind of regret not weighing it before the clutch went into the car but as far as driveability goes I have no complaints.
    • HKS trigger kit should be very easy to integrate with a Link. It's a 36-2 crank trigger. Hard part is finding the motivation to take off the timing belt and everything on the front of the engine to install it. You also need to cut out a hole in the oil pump housing so the sensor can read the trigger wheel. Changing out the cam sensor for a 24 tooth setup is probably good enough but as others have mentioned depending on what underlying assumptions are changed it becomes more of a problem. Reading the crank state off of the cam is an abstraction that works in the general case, but if you have an edge case it makes less and less sense. There is a GTX2860 gen 2 that can take a compact 5 bolt housing so it's direct bolt on but I'm not 100% sure of what's involved. Peak compressor efficiency drops off a bit on these turbos vs -5s, 77% vs 73% but you get way, way wider region of operation. The -5s have a really strange surge line in their compressor map that is all over the place. If you think the hot side on the -5s aren't open enough you can try the Tomei T550B turbos which a local tuner seems to be happy with:
