Piggy Back System

hey guys

i was just hoping for some general information on the piggyback system, like how they work, what they do, how much it cost and how legal it is, and if anyone have tried it on a N/A R34, how good is it? recommendations etc etc etc...

a unit such as Emanage Ultimate would be ideal, for air:fuel, ignition timing control etc.

or perhaps do a remap chip in your stock ecu?

im using a remap from sau user Toshi, plus an Apexi safc-ii for air:fuel control, plus Apexi sitc for ignition timing

with an adjustable fuel pressure regulator (if applicable in N/A?) along with an adjustable exhaust cam gear wheel could net you some great gains.

$ wise, an Ultimate + exhaust cam gear + setup/tune would be around $1500 incl service matrials, at a good workshop of course

ahh...i see, so its just another computer on top of the ECU that takes care of other things?

its a little unit which modifies the electrical signals into the standard ECU, it basically tricks the ECU.

are there a great deal of gains to be had getting an e-manage or similar on an n/a and getting a tune? would it be worth doing at all?

unfortunately on an NA system you are really only going to see noticeable gains with some form of ecu/piggy back management when you start improving the breathing/exhausting efficiency of the entire system.

you can tweak settings like fuel, timing, AFRs, etc. but the major differences will be seen once you increase air intake, exhaust efficiency, compression, etc. until then all you really can do is 'clean-up' your current tune.

turbos respond alot better to tuning, because you can play around with boost pressure, temperature, timing of boost, etc.

soo in other words, unless you have a budget of about 4 or 5 thousand bux, there is no point get in a piggy by by it self???

cleaning up AFRs is always good, especially when using different octane fuel (japan -> aust). all i'm saying is don't expect a massive jump in power because of it.
