Hey people

As the question has stated... how do you reset the ECU?

I have a nissan Skyline R34, would resetting the ECU benefit or just use Electronics such as PFC or SAFC? Which would benefit more ?

It seems like the car struggles when i turn it on when its cold and when its starting to warm, car only revs at 1200rpm. Is that low ? or is there something wrong?

Hi Charlie

To reset the ECU, disconnect the battery and pump the brake pedal a few times. Alternatively leave it disconnected overnight. When you reconnect it and drive it will relearn. Some people think this is a good idea, others disagree. I have not noticed any difference when doing this.

Skylines generally run rich (too much fuel) when modified (exhaust, filter extra boost for example) and this is not optimal for performance. After you have performed the above mods, a computer or sub-computer that will adjust air fuel ratios is a good mod. An alternative to the SAFC is the Greddy Emanage. I probably wouldnt bother with a computer until you have done exhaust, filter and boost first.

When you first turn your Skyline car on, it will idle at 1200, but then drop to around 800-600 rpm (cant remember exactly, and its slightly different if its manual or auto) after it has been warmed up.

Hope that answers your qs, for specific things, doing a search on the forum is handy to find info.

MrZac

Thank you for your info and reply. :P

Can i ask you another question? which would be better off? SAFC-II is the Greddy Emanage ?

I'm currently running stock boost, so does it matter if i lean it out abit? LoL sorry i'm really stupid when it comes to car things, its my first car and yeah, just want the best for it. So anyhelp would be greatly appreciated. :)

Cheers. Charlie

From what I can gather, both will work well, however the Emanage will be better to have if you want to do more than just light tune mods, such as bigger injectors when they are needed etc. SAFC has a cool looking blue screen though, dont know if that is your thing?

Stock boost on a Skyline! Boost it quickly...you dont know what you are missing. Get a Turbosmart T-Piece and adjust it to 8psi (if you still have standard exhaust filter etc) this will not cost much at all and make a noticeable difference. Get an exhaust soon too and a high flow filter. I prefer the panel style that goes in the factory airbox, but a pod filter with a cold air partition would be fine also.

Good luck with your car, R34 for a first car is pretty sweet, mine was a TE Cortina (circa 1978)...

MrZac

So in your pov, the Emanage would be better then the SAFC-II ? I'll keep that in mind.

LoL sorry, i'm still wondering, would running at higher boost waste more petrol yeah ? I have a an exhaust system, air-filter, bov urmz.. getting my front mounted soon. Birthday coming up.. gettin FMIC as a present :D so yeah electronics would be next.

Also i would like to ask, What boost controller is good ? APEXi ? BLITz? or Greedy? Friend recommended Greedy = but i like the looks of the APEXi (Blue screen)... but performance wise.. which one is better?

:( I got a defective notice yesterday for the car :( Being to low. Bugger, have to go make it higher, then get the defective off and lower it again :D

Anyways thanx for replyin and that. =]

p.s what kw is ur GTR?

Emanage would prob be better I would say. However SAFC is very good also. An SAFC will also help if you have a non recirculating bov as well, as at the moment the bov would prob make your car run rich.

When you run more boost your car will use more fuel. Maybe a high/low boost system might be best if you are interested in fuel economy.

I dont really know much about electronic boost controllers, I have always just used a basic bleed valve, seems to work fine and costs alot less. My old R33 had the same mods as yours (FMIC etc 190rwks with a bleed valve). From my experience, I wouldnt get a FMIC unless you have a bigger turbo, money can be better spent elsewhere.

I dont know how much the GTR pulls but I would imagine it would be over 220 at the rears.
