i see

anyone here sustained damage from this ?

All the banging will hurt the oil pump

Without one its easy enough to kill a oil pump if you hit the limiter hard, often etc... so with one of these bang bang devices, it can only be worse

fitted one of these....2nd launch smashed my oil pump.

it depends on how far back you go with your timing retard doesnt it? if you're going for a -3 or a -5 timing retard then it shouldnt be too bad. anything over than then it gets too aggressive.

Paul, what timing retard did you have?

Can anyone elaborate on why it would be bad for oil pumps?

Basically what your saying is my Power FC Pro is worse than a standard Power FC on the limiter?

I thought the whole idea behind ignition cut was it was easier on the motor?

just like key bangers for non injected cars... drive along at say 60km, switch off ignition and pump accelerator pedal vigourisly, then flick the ignition on again and shazam - a nice big BANG from the excess fuel.

sounds great, but I blew the exhaust off a friends corona years ago when we used to do this for a bit of fun :) wouldn't put one on my GTR...

if you bought the car like that then i'd say its seen some fairly high revs already :)

try to get a real ecu

I bought it 4 years ago, dead stock, mint condition. I put the chip in.

Everyone else,

I found the problem, an aftermarket dump pipe I had installed had a bolt hole in it for a different kind of turbo that hadn't been closed up. The car was running rich due to the leak being before the 02 sensor, which made the bee*r much louder.

It's a lot better on the 1st setting now, doesn't sound like it's gonna blow up, as well as the car being faster with a better fuel tune.

i love these limiters... but i like my engine more... its basically the same sorta thing as antilag but different.. haha. engines/turbos hate antilag

i would think that setting 1 would be loud as i think its the longest delay so more fuel would be pumped into it and a bigger bang. the higher the setting, the shorter the cut, the more frequent but less violent bangs.

U got it backwards mate...

i tried key bangers in my corona heaps with no success

im actually glad the topic on oil pumps had been brought up, i was wondering if a lower limit like say 4-5k like u would set with a bee R for the wank factor would be as damaging as a say 7k limit for when u actually run out of revs. it appears the answer is yes

they say its safer because its still putting fuel into the cylinder so its not like detonation, its also why it goes bang because of the fuel getting ignited, i love these things

def the opposite i've lost count of the dead engines (mostly RB and CA) caused by the direct use/misuse of a BEE-R limiter, i have never installed them and never will.

as for the guy who started this thread, put the std limiter back in use and sell the BEE-r to some squid on ebay.

Thanks for all the replies and info everyone!

After having the bee*r for 6 months I think I have only hit it while driving a few times (apart from intentionally revving it to scare people a few times when I first got it - the novelty of which has worn off, especially due to the stories of dead engines, oil pumps and whatever else!)

I figure if I rarely hit it (It's a just-in-case deal now, so I don't accidentally do like 9000rpm and kill my engine) I should be safe... does that sound right to you guys? I have it set to 7500rpm which is pretty near the end of the power band so it's not excessively easy to 'accidentally' hit it...

My other option is to reinstate the factory limiter as URAS suggested... the factory chip had one but this new chip doesn't - does anybody know if there is an easy way to 'program' the rev limiter back in? I have a consult cable if that helps...

Thanks again!!
