Hyperdrive remapped my ecu.

R32 is 10psi stock, and my untuned ecu handled 14psi through the stock turbo and 12psi through the RB25 turbo (still didn't hit R&R but it pinged when on 14psi).

My guess for the misfiring is the coil harness, I had mucho problems and was swapping coil packs in and out. Turned out it was the plugs that go onto the coilpacks - the insides were falling apart. $120 for a new harness and it's mint :P

You can get them from Nissan but when I asked they had none in stock, was going to take 3 weeks to get here.

Ended up getting it from RHDJapan and with shipping worked out pretty much the same as buying it from Nissan but I got it in 1 week instead of 3 :P

But likely due to our dollar sucking so much ass, they seem to be $275 delivered now :P

I'd ring Nissan and see how much they want..

our parts guy have been flatout for awhile so i didnt get a chance to ask him( everytime i go to his office, hes on the phone with a customer and some have talked right through lunch time or another call jumps in after he finishes the other).

ill get him 1st thing in the morning tomorrow and ill post it up when i get back from work

Definately recommened a Nistune and s1 turbo. If you have a spare bit of cash, get an EBC. You wont regret it!

If u r referring to an Electronic Boost Controller(EBC), i've got one of those.

Just wondering.. are u using a pod filter? Cause previously on my car I had the similar problem.. all i had to do was take off the filter(apexi pod) and use a lightpowered airhose and blow out all the dust and stuffs.. ended up solving the problem but eventually changed the filter after a month :)

Try cleaning you airflow meter sensor with some brake cleaner could be dirty and pull ur intercooler pipe off the turbo if there is oil in there your turbo seals could be causeing the problem, even try adjusting your timeing

My understanding is the standard R32 ECU adjusts timing on its own until it detects knock then adjusts it back abit, rinse and repeat.

Btw don't clean out your pod filters with an airhose it can damage the material, which is why K&N etc have cleaning kits for them.

The ecu has timing maps, that's where it gets its' timing info from.

The maps are relative to the base timing though, so if you adjust the CAS it adjust timing across the board.

No probs. I still think it's a spark issue (breaking down) as opposed afm or oil in cooler like that other guy reckons. When you have 20yo wiring/plugs, you would want to look at replacing them just for the hell of it (especially mission critical wiring).

yeah it seems to me that its the same problem i have, which is coilpacks. Its 90% chance to be the coilpacks and well they are worth replacing at any rate. Our cars are old, its worth going through and replacing things. Hence why I've got alot of lines and fittings etc that I'm in the process of measuring up to replace. 20y/o rubber and wiring needs to be replaced or checked at some point.

Might not necessarily be the coilpacks themselves, while it is common there can also be issues with the wiring associated with the coilpacks. I spent a few months troubleshooting a misfire and it turned out my 19yo coilpacks were fine but the plugs on the harness that connects to the coilpacks were falling apart.. everytime I took a plug off the insides would disintegrate more :down:

My stock coilpacks were so fine in fact, that I ended up selling the splitfires I got when I was troubleshooting.

    • Looks like they've been through a few versions of the kit; that is not the one I had trouble with (it had the level sender attached to baffles on the floor, the one you linked the level sender is hung from the hat). One obvious point about that kit is it has no baffles at all, not even the factory setup (although it looks like you can retain the factory setup if you want).  Not sure if that will be an issue or not, the good news is it looks like you can get the pump nice and low in the tank, but that doesn't help if the fuel is all sloshing to one side of a wide flat tank
    • One more question if you don't mind. Just wondering whether this is the kit you weren't happy with, or whether it's a different revision. Thanks again!
    • That's the thing....the basics of fuel and ignition are deceptively simple.....getting it to behave like factory in all conditions after airflow mods is way more complex. Newer cars like the V37 are all about modifying the standard ECU which is about a billion times more complex than they were 20 years ago, with a bunch of parameters affecting others
    • The larger TB I had on the SS was a pain to get to idle right, but, that was cable In the end they just raised the idle up a couple of hundred RPM so it was happy idling away either in gear or in park (slush box life) I'm curious on how my NC will idle with the new intake, larger TB, and cams that are currently going in/on, but I have faith that MX5 Mania will sort this "electronical" "black magic" out the best they can in the tune with a electronic TB Sometimes I wish I knew more about the intricacies of tuning, but most of the time I don't because I know it would hurt my brain 🤣
