Then they are correct. I would almost go from 'recommended' to 'required'.

yes all 2nd hand rods should be at the very minimum closed and honed after new bolts are fitted to ensure big ends are perfectly round and haven't distorted from previous service or the bolt removal and fitting process.

Just to add to that

Also because the new torque required by the ARP bolt can distort the bigend tunnel.

Anywhere from 0.001 to 0.003 difference can be found just by torquing them down to the new figure.

fit the bolts torque to rec arp tension, measure the tunnel with an inside dial bore guage. if you dont have one a rep shop should measure them and charge zip. sometimes you can pull it off and dont need to close and hone. we always check it that way first, if they are not round in the tunnels from there they will have to be closed and resized. usual cost $30 per rod to resize. basic stuff!!!!!1
