Ok so i had a look at and test drove a series 2 RS Four S on friday and all was good. Except that i noticed that under wroughly half throtle when u accelerate it was surging a bit. Now i got back to the dealer n told the salesman and he jumped in and drove it and agreed that it was surging. He said that he thought it was the vvti solenoid not working properly/not opening. And said that he had had the same problem with a couple of other cars. Apparently because the solenoid is in the top of the block when the cars been sitting around its not getting oil on it all the time and they become sticky. When we got back to the dealership the mechanic there advanced the timming 8 degrees in order to get the vvti to turn on earlier hoping that it would force it to become unstuck. It seemed to work as everytime he accerlerated the car ran better. Has anyone heard of this problem before. I would assume it would happen to all rb25s if this is the case.

all help will be awsome

thanks

Come on guys i'm going to see the car next weekend and i need to know what the deal is.
If the problem was caused by the car sitting around then maybe their fix has worked. Ask them to return the timing to factory 15deg and if the problem has gone away then it should be all good.

It may have been sticky because it hasnt had an oil change, but to advance the timing by 8 degrees is criminal, the best way to detenate an engine.it doesnt take much ,

too much timing and a little boost and you launched a motor, be carefull

The VVI switches in at 1050 revs and out at around 5200.

vvti?? rb25det neo's have vvti??
I think Nisan RBs had variable valve timing from the series 2 RB25DET onwards. The neo engine has a more sophisticated version than the RB25series 2 and it wasn't called vvti nissan had names like VCT and VVL (can't remember off the top of my head).

hey guys thanks.

Yeh i know its not called vvti but figured everyone would know what i was talking about...lol.

Um no its at down the gold coast. Wheres keysborough out of interest?

Basicly as KiwiRS4T said they've got variable valve timming. Its probs called something special as most nissan things are. And being a neo engine it would probs be more complicated agian :D

I understand advancing the timming could be bad news but i'm going to see it next weekend and they should have put it back to factory. and if anything seems weird i'll be walking away.

thanks to all
