Look at http://www.ecutalk.com/interface.aspx for the cable. You can search for it on Google, too, but not many Aussie companies produce the cable.

Then, you're free to download Consult-compatible software! Hook the cable into the laptop and ODB1 port on your car, and you can then pull off error codes and clear them.

Yep, spot on JRM. They can only do a limited amount of functions/data read-out options... but having the ECU codes is handy!

The only software Im aware of that does HICAS diags is the Conzult software sold by TTzed. Sadly I have not heard from them and will most likely have to get my cable from the manufacturer in the netherlands. Its primarly made for 300zx's but the hicas diag codes are the same for ODB1 cars and it'll work fine. Only problem is its expensive. IF anyone knows about any other software that does hicas diags, I'd love to hear about it

For Conzult (aftermarket software) approx $600 AU for the cable + software. Consult from Nissan runs into several thousands of dollars. You can get aftermarket ODB diag systems from people like snap on power tools but the individual modules are expensive and I'm not sure if they even have one for HICAS.

Sadly they decided to chose to export their software on Euro or USD, depending on which makes them the most money at the time, so to get it here in Aus is quite pricey. If I get one I won't mind lending the system out or doing diags for people, problem is its just expensive (relatively)

I've been in conversations with Eric at DTA Motorsport regarding ConZult and the compatibility of their HICAS diagnostics with the R34; He did indicate that he's tested this on R32/R33 with success, but they haven't had an opportunity to test with the R34. He sent me a test build with limited functionality to test this functionality, but it didn't work for me (though he's unsure if that's a bug in the code or a problem with talking to R34 ECUs).

The ConZult software looks exceedingly expensive, but if it works 100% - it's definitely something I'd consider.

Yeah I spoke to eric too when I was shopping around - r34 system not only has the odb2 plug as mentioned earlier, but the protocol is more advanced. If i could get access to the source code I'd probably build a decent GUI around the backend, and make it so i could use it with a 7" fold out touchscreen.... other thing that is cool about conzult is that you can attach it to a serial 2 way wireless transciever and do budget pit side engine monitoring/telemetry at race events.... just need to wait for my next paycheck before I can buy the damn kit and it sucks getting paid monthly

I've had Boostworx do it for me.

are you sure about that? im pretty sure obd scantech has a hicas section, and its definitely free (it used to be $$$)
