you will find that shannons does insure you on your circumstances....ie if your car is a weekender then your insurance premium isnt that high....but i think that means your not covered from monday - friday....so its a big risk you take....but if you only drive it on sat and sun then shouldnt be a problem.....

Mine is insured as a weekender, I can drive it whenever i like and its covered. You have to have a car insured as a daily to be able to get one insured as a weekender though.

my trailer is insured as a "limited use" item, only gets used a few times a month as opposed to every day of the week. makes it cheaper and gives me better cover than if it was an every day item

I have mine insured for low K's a year , it made a difference with shannons of nearly 30 bucks a month but you can still drive it whenever you want

when I asked them for any other ways to discount it, they offered up 10% off if you have a valid CAMS licence.. so may have to look into that soon.

damo that list from insure as you go is soooo funny, since when does a pod filter make you more likely to crash or cost them heaps to repair...hahahaha

insurance companies here blow.. in USA you can mod the hell out of any car , as long as you have photos, receipts for mods, and independent valuation done if its over a certain amount on a classic car. they care more about your credit scores, loans on the car, driving records...and they dont fuss when you need to have a claim..

Hi All

Thanks for this thread. I was having all sorts of problems finding an insurance company who would insure my new R32 until I did the search and found this thread.

Both our cars (the Prado and the Elantra as well as the camper trailer) are insured with our credit union - but they wouldnt touch the R32.

I rang Just Car and they wanted 1200 p/year - crazy money given that I am nearly 34 and have an A1 record. I rang famous who wouldnt give me a quote over the phone, I rang premium and a whole heap more and it was all looking bad.

Then I rang Shannons - what a difference! over 600 cheaper than anywhere else - only 400 as an excess - AND, they will reduce all that further if I insure the other cars and/or my house and contents with them. Monthly cost is only 57 p/month.

Really helpful guy on the other end of the car - all mods are insured separately, my choice of repairer etc etc.

Really really good. The only downside is that they will only insure you with a good driving and personal record apparently (so going to have to be careful the keep it that way :worship: )

welcome to the forums Leisha.....as the case with most insurance companies they wont touch jap imports.....coz they have a really really bad reputation

good to hear it all worked out well for ya...

Well H2P covered me for $23,000 last year at a premium of $1155

This year my renewal comes up. Covered for $20,500 and a premium of...... $1494.70! WTF!??

I called them to see if it was a mistake but nope, apparenlty thats how much they calculated it would cost to cover a female driving a NON TURBO skyline. Thats an increase of $338.90. I have never even made a claim before!

So went back to Justcar (who i was with previosly) and they will cover it for $17,500 for a premium of $945. Considering my loan only has $1500 remaining on it, im not super concerned about how much im covered for.

So looks like im back with JustCar

that's just crap....they pull figures out of thin air and you have no choice but to pay their premiums.

They are a law unto themselves and should be contolled by a separate body that dictates to them that they can't raise premiums in any one year by more than CPI (ie. 3 or 4% per year).

Its robbery!

Thanks to all those dickheads who have written off their Skylines im stuck with massive premiums... Still, they should look at statistics for females writing off non turbo skylines and stop pulling figgures from thier ass!!

Grrrr. Oh well. My sister has her 6L V8 VE SSV Ute insured for 50,000K with them and she pays a smaller premium then me, mind you she is probably going to get a quote from Just Car now because shes just as pissed off as me about trying to rip me off.

Well done H2P *Punches in face*

honey and chocolate wrestling Penny

i do agree with you on the lines of them stealing from us really.....have you tried getting a quote from shannons and once they give you a quote then tell them what you current quote is.....see if they can match/beat it

ive been with shannos a few yrs now have 2 cars with them .......got my policey renewal and my agrred value had dropped fro 18g too 14 g and the premuim was the same amount .

so i got onto the ph and the guy i spoke to was ok but not great i was tring too get my point accross how can it be agreed value if one party does not agree too it lol.

if you want too drop the value down to 14g then the premium has too drop as well you cant have it both ways .after a heated discussion it was agreed to leave the policey as it was at 18 g for the preium i was paying ...i dont care if 20 skylines get stolen every day if thats the case dont do agreed value ...ffs im 50 yrs old our skyline sits in a fully lockable shed with a alarm system and a german shepard in the yard .

we only use the car once every couple of weekends and i could not tell you last time it was driven during a week day

the whole industry has changed over the last few yrs fro we will insure enthuist car for agreed value to we will slug the highest prem we can gat out of you and value your car for as less as we can ........

bah end of my rant for now

Insurance what a joke, i have my R33 insured through just cars. $630 a year and i'm 25. not bad in my eyes, the catch is though that i pay a $1200 excess. looked a shannons the other day they quoted $1400 with a $400 exess. i had to guarantee my car locked in a garage every night with shannons. who knows how they work? a lot of differances between companies

:D

I know I'm not from SA, but seriously, I've not had a phone for two months, out workin' in the desert. HOW f**kING HARD WOULD IT BE TO DO EMAIL QUOTES!?!?!

I had really good insurance with HBF until they decided they only liked my car for $5,200. I told them I was going to look elsewhere but continue on that policy until I found a better one, now, they're telling me that it could just randomly have been cancelled (why?), and I've no idea when that ended, so the "have you been insured for the last month" box is firmly ticked = MASSIVE PREMIUMS.

So defeated.

Looking probably at third party property insurance, so at least I'm not going to be saddled with debt if I crash. Thing is, I can afford insurance, but just finding a company that'll actually (a) insure me until I'm 25, and (b) insure my car for enough that it's even close to market value is just impossible. *sigh* =[

I get charged $1500 "vehicle excess" just for it being a skyline, you obviously don't get this?

Plus age excess (21), then the standard excess all adds up to 2550, not to mention the $300 a month I hand over.

Costs a fortune but i'm on the road heaps and is still cheaper than paying for someones BMW or even my own repairs if I hit something.

it really is a joke how the insurance companies treat imports.....

It isnt. Its justified. Sure, the same guy can wreck a VT, oh no, $10,000 paid out by insurance. You wreck a skyline of the same year (97-2000), theres 16-20k down the drain. So, we are charged accordingly.

    • Yep, that was one of the things we learned fast in the past with our MX5. When you drive with the top down, you are effectively standing out in the sun, 100% of the time, and not getting in any shade (because roads aren't shaded generally!). Just like standing out in the middle of a field on a sunny 27C day is a bit of a bad plan, so is sitting in a MX5 without sun protection.
    • I also just ordered some Frankenstein bolts and side mounts to fit a hard top Just in case I do find one, basically so it doesn't need to be fixed to the car with only the front latch.......and then gaffa tape to keep it in place for the RTN journey from wherever I get it
    • If your temps are fine now, you probably won't have any issues with where your vents are as they don't look right up at the windscreens high pressure area, so any differences when giving it the beans for extended happy laps would be minimal, but, they should vent heaps when stuck in traffic  Much like how that reverse cowl on my SS let "visible" heat out when stationary, but, because it was basically at the windscreen my coolant temps on the Hwy actually raised because air was being fed into it at speed (110kph), to only come back down to around 90° when I got off the Hwy And your 100% correct about the NC currently not needing vents, but, if I was to add a turbo, and a oil cooler and intercooler in front of the condenserand radiator, and then take it to the track???? It is apparently a recommend requirement if I don't want to worry about coolant or oil temp issues, but, any of the above are possible scenarios, over time As it sits now, with the triple pass radiator and stock air conditioning system, I have absolutely no issues with either temps or air conditioning efficiency, I've been basically daily driving thie car for the last month, both on the Hwy, and peak hour, bumper to bumper traffic, but, that's pretty much expected from basically a standard engine  Talking about no issues daily driving, it was 39° the other day and I was sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on the M5 and then M7, with the top down, and with the air conditioning blowing nice cold air on my feet, balls, and face, well, there was one issue, my head and arms got pretty sun burnt Note to self: leave a hat and sunscreen in the car for such days 🤣
    • I would agree, unless you need something specific to the HV motor/battery side repaired or investigated, any mechanic will be able to perform normal services, but if you prefer, maybe look for a mechanic who regularly services/repairs Nissans, the VQ engines are pretty common in the Nissan lineup.  Sorry, I can't make any suggestions, I don't live in Vic.
    • Some of them keep working fine. 9 out of 10 of them end up causing an absolute misery bleeding the system and get thrown on the workshop floor in a tantrum and never thought about again because they were never really needed and just added crap to the car that we could have done without. Same-same with HICAS, A-LSD, and various other stupidities that over eager 10x engineers thought we had to have.
