ok i love my music and love bass but i have been looking into the weight problem as of lately.

atm i have 2X12" clarion subs which packs and a fair decent punch but it weighs a billion tons lol so i am after a single sub that can pack somewhere close to 2 subs. i have a 1000wrms clarion amp so planning on running the new sub of that.

so suggest away a sub that may suit me. budget wise ill be looking at spending upto $500

this is my boot atm lol

so ye if anyone can recommend a decent sub nothing high end as i wont be entering this in any comps just want to reduce the weight and get some boot space back that will be great

One sub acting like two?

You need a DVC, Dual Voice Coil.

In my opinion, $500 is a great budget for a DVC sub.

My recommendation would be ...

Rockford Fosgate Punch Series P2L-112

OR

Any of these Power Series subs, enclosed in a custom made box to suit the volume needed.

Can be tuned for heavy and deep bass, or just normal listening..

I never got it but i am still inlove with the kicker solobaric L7. I chose 2 mtx 5500's instead because it was a much better price for me 4 years ago.

Pick them up with a ported box from kicker for under $500, off memory they were 650ish rms. basically the L7 is like 2 of my mtx's combined in one smaller and light weight unit. Just set your amps subsonic filter and that properly and you shouldn't have any probs running it from your 1000rms amp. Anyway it will sound very clear since the amp can easily handle the subs demands, no distorted peaks getting cut off and all that....

Still impressed by it today, and if my mtx's ever give out i'd probably get a couple of solobarics to replace

  • 2 weeks later...

Solobaric or Fosgate, JL audio , all rellay good for the money

and many more.

I was going to say , WHAT BOOT its all box?

mine has a recycled 12 DVC sub in a fiberglass composite box, flush mounted BEHIND the side panel near the jack.cant see it at all

removed the jack and put it on top of spare in molded holder. custom built

but more then enough room to flush mount a very serious 10-12" and keep it out of the way, I lost , no part of my boot to sub and only a slight bit to hold the 3 amps in a false floor , both sides if the car have room for subs by the way in a R34 GTT

just have to be creative, you also have plenty of room for a single relfex custom made box under the rear deck for a 10" which will outrun your clarions by at least 3 times over if done correctly. in a honda we hit 143 db with a 10" rockford in a small box described above and 800watts on it ? serious thump

the new JL Audio slim-line sub.. the enclosure can be amazingly small but it has real punch.

wow that looks impressive, I went with a Peerless 12" Automotive in a fibreglass box made by loftyfang. It kicks hard enough for me and sounds nice :D

I think if you have the money and want some serious bass, take a look at this test

you can see all the favorites fail ...lol doesnt mean there bad but if you want incredible take a look..lol

Orion has made some of the best woofers around for the price for a long long time? even the lower cost ones are great and take smaller boxes then most others ???

Not sure if your budget can afford it but I highly recommend Boston Acoustics. I believe that they designed to be mounted in a 1cft enclosure so thats gotta be a decent weight saving. Plus they can take an absolute pounding and beg for more

Yep I can vouch for the quality of Orion. I ran 4 x 15" XTR subs back in the early 90's. They were near indestructable .

http://www.alpine.com.au/products/product.asp?modelID=332

All your problems solved. :D

This is a dual voice coil, can either get 2 ohm or 4 ohm. 500rms. Sounds like you have two 12's in the boot with the right amp of course :O

I recommend a awesome amp. MRD-1005 Alpine which they dont stock anymore but is tops cause its a 1000rms mono block amp which means you can always add another 500rms sub into the mix, and in the meantime still run your 1xType R Alpine to potential but always be sure to set your gains correct. Cause you dont want a popped sub like we've read above lmao...

Another good amp which my friend is using and it pumps is http://www.alpine.com.au/products/product.asp?modelID=374

And prices are much cheaper at jb than alpines site.

So for under $1000 ull have nice clean, crisp bass..

Just my oppinion thou, hope it helps.

Dont know how far up the range your clarion subs are but i had 2 bottom of the range 12" pioneer subs in my car when i bought it, replaced them with a single jl and it sounds better than the pioneer, better response and better clarity.
