Just wondering why my car (rb20det) makes no boost if i rev it in neutral ?

just thinking about it, with the clutch pedal depressed, sitting still, its really the same as if i was driving with the clutch engaged at speed.

The engine is still revving to a certain RPM, therefore consuming a certain amount of air (correct me if im wrong).

so shouldn't the turbo be spooling ?

There is no load that's why you won't see boost in neutral when just pushing the throttle.

However.... if you modulate the throttle you can achieve positive boost in neutral. Play with it let it rev down and hit the throttle a bit, you'll see a + reading. It's not sustainable but possible :)

turbos only respond to load (exhaust energy). no load no boost . to over simplify it . less air = less fuel = less exhaust energy.

if you floor it and let off before redline (or not if your so inclined) you should see the positive side of the boost gauge but f all

Does it have a stock ecu?? The R32 GTS-T (or mine anyway) with a stock ecu will NOT build any boost in neutral. I didnt even think about this until i had my troublesome after market ecu pulled out. It would spool up in neutral with that in, but as soon as it was out i thought i had a blown turbo lol. Just a factory safety measure....
