Too much cash this bloke ^

Your joken right mate? I have been carefully saving for 8 years to get to where I'm at.

Plus I happen to have a full time job as well to support my young family and my build.

I was requested to post this, I think just to stir the pot a bit

I had the exhaust on my 34 GTR done today,

it had ces comp series dumps and front to 80mm HKS 150 cell cat to 80mm apexi catback, no restrictors in it, all 80mm

it has ces dump pipes twin 3" through twin 3" 100 cell cats with 5" bodies in to single 4" center muffler and out 4" rear muffler

the difference in light throttle at low rpm is nothing short of amazing and the GT-RSs are now make useable boost as low as 2100rpm without a tune

I will add a few exhaust shops I talked about this setup tried to get me to go 3.5" cause 4" was to much of a hassle

as for street setup my 32 with stock turbos injector cams etc @15pis make 261rwkw and is a handfull to the point I have to be very careful until the AD08s have warmed up, even in 4WD !!

my point is the turbos you chose are a small part of any giving setup and if the setup isn't done well then turbos want matter as the car will be a piece of shit to drive but get your setup correct and any of these turbos will over power the grip you have available

This I 100% agree with.

some people just don't understand!

So your point is that the fact that because there is partial boost through your daily driving rev range makes it better to drive than a Setup that comes on all the time. Is that right?

sort of, boost isn't either on or off it is throttle dependent and being able to feed the throttle and have the boost go with it is the best setup IMO

I'll use the 32 as example as it is setup right and the 34 isn't finished yet, I drive it between 2-3k rpm with part throttle and some boost, makes it very responsive and easy to drive and I have plenty of power available from 2k on to 7500rpm if needed, the car got 615km from a tank 4 weeks ago makes 293rwkw @ 19psi and has run 11.1 @ 123 mph

More boost + good tuning = still safe

+ e85 = safer yet again

and my 2c on the question of the thread - buy the -5's. I've never met someone that doesn't want to chase more power in the future. Buy bigger now for the bigger/longer term picture.

Easier said then done, do u have 7k for a built motor to sustain that power? and if so not everyone else does, myself included atm. Like others have said the stock 26 doesn't like much over 320kw 4 long term durability.

But as I said drive both and see what you like and then make your decision. Any reputable rb workshop will allow you to experience multiple setups they build if they see your serious.

They won't give u 1500$ in labour for free to change turbos

Ha ha the best. I was driving around with a spun bearing for 5 months until it eventually went bang. Last 2 months it sounded like a tractor. As soon as I heard the bearing a put slick50 in it and it lasted for 5 months.

Thats weird, mine only lasted 2 weeks when i spun a bearing b4 it blew up lol. Guess the slick50 did the trick on your'es

Too much cash this bloke ^

With the R34 GTR being the last of the 26's i thought Nissan would of made it an RB28 from the factory given how much success Nismo had with that, but instead they make people pay 12k to do it lol

Let me be clear because I think I wasn't clear enough. You pick a reputable builder, you tell him you not sure what you want, he says he has done different builds / setups. And he organised those customers to come down and take you for a drive. You have a chat to them as they drive the car in different ways. You experience the car and the set up. You compare to the next one and you make a decision. If the builder has not got this relationship with his customers I wouldn't he handing over my hard earned cash.

What bloody planet are you living on???? That is the most unrealistic BS I have ever heard of!!!!

Must be a different to yours then because that's what I did. If someone's going to hand over $20k for a setup and not do this and know exactly what they are getting, then good luck to them.

Ok, firstly I want to apologies for my previous post, that was not appropriate of me.

I understand the point your are trying to make, however you must acknowledge that for a workshop to call previous customers just for a prospective customer to work out what setup they want is a bit rich.

Mechanics simply do not have the time to waist and organise joy rides in order to assist a potential customer make a decision

Plus, if my mechanic called me and said "oh I have so and so who want to know what your car drives like can you swing passed sometime" I would firstly be shocked at the proposal and then come to my senses and say "no farkin way"

If you can get your friends that have cars to help you make a decision fine but to get that request at the pleasure of a completely unknown third party......in your dreams.

Fair enough. But I think any engine builder who has been in the game for a long time would be able to sort out the dreamers from the serious customers. If mine called me I know he needs me to help a serious customer to make a decision on Setup not if they are going to go through a build. I wouldn't hesitate if I received a phone call because I have a great relationship with him and the many enthusiasts at his workshop. Its like a family. But anyway that's the way I did it and that's the advice I gave to the guy that was posting about what Setup he should go for. But everyone is different. All cool.

Maybe attend sau cruise or other event and ask nicely to go for a drive but I doubt anyone would let you drive their car but me personally would be happy to take someone for a quick blast as long as its away from my house that is

Yeah mate. I didn't mean it seriously. We all work hard for what we want.

Anyway, back on topic.

If you wan't low down torque and response go -7's, -9's. If you wan't for top end power and don't mind the bit of lag go -5's.

Yeah agreed but I think if you have the cash ready for a build and you pick the builder then you have to test his product. When I went in his customer's car with- 5s it was a bit laggy so my engine builder said it had another exhaust manifold in it and was Setup for top end. So he set mine up for for much better response. Point is that if I didn't have this baseline to go off then I would never have had the experience to discuss what my needs were and he couldn't customise his build to my needs.

    • Hi soviet_merlin, We appreciate your concern regarding this possibly being some sort of PR/Political hype, I assure you that is not the case, I wish we could claim something like that, but in this case, we merely reached out for comment on the basis of the outrage we too felt, as those heavily in the automotive industry. Ps. the original source in the social media post is CarExpert not CarExplore.    Best, CE.
    • Made a bit of a discovery, but while I was cruising, I randomly decided to test to see if it worked and it showed up on my IC7. The entire time I tested it before, I never thought to turn the ignition on. I only tested it with head lights turned on but with the ignition off. Huge oversight on my end. I’m a dummy. I know.
    • G'day all, I have drilled and tapped the hole for the relocation of the timing belt tensioner. That was straight forward. I'm unsure if I need to also put another hole for the smaller stud that the spring behind the tensioner catches on (this is how it seems to work in its original spot). Or do you not use the spring behind it and just torque it down? Thanks in advance, I did a search but couldn't find anything related and it doesn't mention it in the rb30det sau guide.
    • Hi All,  just thought I would provide an update as I know smooth (Matt) was on this forum from 2003.    my brother Matthew passed away end of may 2024 at the age of 41 from liver failure. I am not sure how many of his original team krazy friends are still on here or active but thought it reasonable to let the forum know.    if you have any photos or pictures it would be great if you could share them.    it took me a while to work out he was active on here.    thanks so much
