B-Man
Hi , I was told today that ARP don't do rod bolts for RB25DET rods. Tomei bolts don't fit. So my question is to all those RB25DET rebuild folks - what rod bolts did you use - What other options (other than standard) do I have ?? Thanks, Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/25450-rb25det-rod-bolts-options/ Share on other sites
Roy
Try another supplier, i think you will find that they are available as i have been quoted a price for ARP Rod bolts for an RB20 and UAS advertise them on their site for the RB25. Roy
Actually looking at that picture from the UAS site... they arent rod bolts? Perhaps give them a call... as the site says ARP rod bolts for the RB25, either they have the wrong picture or the wrong description. SteveL
Those are rod bolts, but for an SR20. ARP don't list any products for RB engines in their cat, but I've been told that VG30DETT bolts are the same - can't say for sure that's right tho... B-Man
Roy, It was UAS who told me that ARP rod bolts don't come for the RB25DET - I then pointed out to John, that the UAS Web site states that the RB25DET linished conrods section they recomend ARP rod bolts - I think is was just an honest mistake - John is look at alternatives now. Anyone got any other options ?? Maybe have to cryo-temper the standard ones ?? Craved
this is not a direct answer to the question, BUT, i was speaking to a mechanic who is rebuilding a couple of engines ATM, one is a CA18DET, which he is getting stronger rod bolts from a chevy engine and reeming the hole out a little to fit the new stronger bolts!! Does this sound like a valid process or would any increase in this size cause structural issues with the conrods ?? B-Man
That sounds a little but dodge to me.... I think i'd prefer to get the standard rod bolts cryogentically tempered, plus any other strengthening process. Craved
i thought that too, but thinking about it,it seems a hell of a lot cheaper, and as long as the hole is widened too much should be fine for normal rev parameters!! wouldn't do this if increasing the rev range of the conrods!!! what does it cost for your alternative? cryogentically tempered? Steve
B-man, perhaps pm sydneykid, he seems to know of some rods that fit RB that arent actually made for RB so perhaps he has the good oil on rod bolts too?. But either way, when he builds an engine, I doubt he would use standard rod bolts. Sydneykid......? Sydneykid
Hi guys, we exclusively use ARP rod bolts, main bearing studs and head studs. We order them by their dimension, eg; 60 mm long 10 mm diameter, thread 1.25. As I have posted many times in the past, don't bother trying to order "a set of rod bolts for an RB25" you will get nowhere. They have secrecy/supplier agreements with Japanese tuning shops that stop them from selling "sets of rod bolts for an RB25". There is no secrecy/suppier agreement to stop them from selling "12 X rod bolts, 60 mm long, 10 mm diameter with thread 1.25". These are not the real dimensions by the way, you have to measure them for yourself. Hope that helps Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/25450-rb25det-rod-bolts-options/#findComment-542170 Share on other sites
Simonster
Guys, I used ARP bolts when I rebuilt my RB25 and yes they don't make them specifically for it. So I used SR20 bolts. They are exactly the same as RB25 Thanks for coming;) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/25450-rb25det-rod-bolts-options/#findComment-543695 Share on other sites
