What Gtr Is The Best?

Recommended Posts

Guys I want to know your opinions. Not what you own, from your experiences what GTR is better from the 32 33 and 34.

Please include why. I dont want answers like 32 because its the original, What makes each car better or worse from each other.

well my 2 cents is that every model gets better and quicker around a circuit in stock form. depends what you want i guess. For a nice street/circuit car the r34,r35 and for a cheaper drag car or on a budget. r32, r33.

well if your gonna put it that way......then

the BEST GTR is the R34 Z-TUNE!

" The engine was now a 2.8L, and produced about 500 hp (370 kW).

The Z-tune is also improved with an aggressive suspension setup from ohlins/sachs, and a specially designed Brembo brake setup.

The Z-tune is often regarded as the most expensive (prices for some have been known to exceed $180,000 usd) street legal GT-R ever built."

From what i've heard

R32 for price

R33 for a straight line

R34 for anything else.

Of course, saying that, exactly how much better at each thing each car is, who knows. Well, not me anyway.

Its because i am looking at getting one.

I like them all, The reason are as follows,

R32 - IT has that tough look, its lighter, Handles very well stock, ages well and the money i save on one I can mod the car with the left over cash.

R33 - If i got a 33 R it would be a Series 3 I wouldn't get a 1 because of the ugliness of the interior. I used to own a 33 GTST and quite liked it.

R34 - Its going to take me longer to get one of these hm 6 more months??? They look nice, are the newest of the RB26 and have the 6 speed box.

Is it possible to put a 34 engine and box into a 32?

At this point in time i am considering the 32. But i don't want to rush in until I hear the forums opinion.

Thanks for your reply's so far guys.

Yes a 34 engine and box will go into an r32.

I would say if you can afford a r34 gtr and like everything about the way its looks then you should get one. They are the newest so are less likely to be thrashed as hard and as long as say an older r32 though they are still driven hard by their owners like all gtr's.

They have the steel wheel turbo's on them standard as opposed to the r32 and r33 with ceramic and the r34 gtr head is a little different with different cams, from what i have been told by mechanics, so upping the boost on an r34 with a tune should see some good results without changing anything. All round they are a better built car with nissan making some good changes, as you would expect from over 10 years of advances from the r32 to r34.

I wouldnt dwell on the performance diferences between the diferent models. Once you change an intake or exhaust and re-tune the diferences disappear.

It think the build quality of the 32 was the best of all the GTR's (at the time when they were new), but 32's are getting a litle long in the tooth now. Finding a good one is getting harder and harder. Finding one to restore means finding a car with some flaws and fixing what you can, and in some cases making a compromise for what you cant get just 100% perfect. Though I guess that comes down to your capabilities and what you consider to be important.

The 33's are a larger car than the 32's and 34's and you do notice that diference.

The 34's feel and drive simular to the 32's but are much more refined. Its like they took the good features of the 33 (stability, braking performance) and put them in a much more updated version of car simular to a 32. The stronger mid range torque of the standard 34 engine is noticable, and the 6 speed is a very nice improvement over the 5 speeds in the earlier model cars.

So my choice is the 34, but if I couldnt afford it I'd have gone looking for a mint 32 N1 for around 30K-35K, with only light modifications, low km and a flawless interior. The car should be a pleasure to drive too.

Excellent answer, That is whats holding me back on getting a 32 right now. There are a few nice ones but a 34 just seems so good and there isnt many ive seen on the street.

It also comes down to what you are going to do with it. If you are going to race it then the weight advantage of the 32 will be very welcome and all the engine/brakes/suspension bits that are different between the models would be changed anyway for more high end gear

The best GTR?

Probably this: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/2002-Ultima-GTR-COU...A1%7C240%3A1318

Seriously though, I would have the R34 GTR. Looks, performance, its not fat like the R33, plenty of room for modification, plenty of street cred, the only turn off for me is the price and even there the prices are slowly dropping.

    • I am currently going this route. I am curious how much horse power you put behind the cut bell housing? Collins was telling me I am going to crack it and bluh bluh bluh. Because I didn’t buy the custom fly wheel from him. I am looking for somewhere around like 500 hp
    • Forgot to mention that these are the before pics when I first got it!
    • Thanks @PranK for the updated member status, much appreciated! 👍🏼 Now, about those pics… Unfortunately I could only find ones that I took in the dark. I was soon to discover that underneath it wasn’t in the best shape, but it was mine and that’s all I cared about at the time 😆
    • Oh, and only having done this task yesterday, I've now driven the car ~60km since, and while it is hard to avoid placebo effect and confirmation bias, I reckon that some annoyances I had with the way the car has been behaving have improved. Which....kinda makes sense, I guess. If the bushes were really stiff and resisting rotation, they would have been contributing to the effective wheel rate. And if it was more so on one side (which it was, because one side was worse than the other) then.... you might imagine that the additional rate would be asymmetric, and potentially even different between compression and rebound. And so... the car has been twitchy at higher speeds - like freeway on ramps. It really shouldn't be. The wheel alignment is good and there are no (other) known problems elsewhere in the suspension. But at 90-100 on a long sweeping ramp, tiny steering wheel motions would make it feel like it wanted to rear steer. Quite nervous. At lower speeds it would heave about in a manner that it didn't use to. Didn't want to put power down, etc etc. Now...seems to behave better. Am going to have to concentrate on the various corners where it has exhibited weirdness, on the rare occasions when I can get a decent run at them without Methanial getting in the way in his D-Max/Ranger/LDV Van/etc.
