Tony,

you mean none were defected for offensive kebab/body odours ??

or for believing "english" is a yellow paste that burns the nostrils ??

As for mechanical defects, has anyone caught a Sydney cab (falcon) that didn't make chronic & alarming clunking noises from the nearside front ??

Like 7 lawyers at the bottom of the ocean, 71 defects is a good start, but I'll bet a cabbies interpretation of clearing a defect is to scrape the sticker off !!

I'm kidding about the front mounts and shit. They got defected for the usual things including dangerous suspension, bad seatbelts, unsafe LPG installs.

But also there were some false Centrelink dole cheats + sort immigration issues (but this is almost expected from Sydney cabbies is it not?).

no book of revelations here !

hopefully the Police/RTA will continue to target cabs, IMHO as a category of road user they by far the most dangerous on Sydney roads and present a greater hazard than any other including performance enthusiasts, who DONT mind spending money on their rides because they own those rides & DO give a shit.

OK, Ok... in with hate, out with love... ahhh I feel much better now, 71 of the performance enthusiasts Antichrist are in purgatory & that's a good thing.

Yeah about time the Police did something about taxi's. Next it should be buses that get the finger.

I'd say atleast 30% of buses aren't roadworthy. Well school buses anyway, the 1 i use to catch broke down on average about once a fortnight.

Cabbies may be worst in Sydney... but here in Melb they run a close second to CAMRY drivers !

1. CAMRY SPORTIVO

2. CAMRY (any kind)

3. CABBIE's

4. Toorak Tractors (Suburban 4x4... Toorak = posh Melb suburb)

5. Every man and his dog that pulls up next to you at the lights want's to drag !

I agree... it is good start, but will it be an ongoing thing or 'shock tactics' to 'scare' other cabbie's into complying.

Director of Holden once said that they don't do a 'cab' special, they make the cop cars and don't have 'taxi yellow' a factory color. Forcing cabbies to buy the car then get it re-spray'd. He said that that's not the image they want to promote (holdens = taxi's), and I don't blame them!

Most cabbies drive there cars into the ground and buy another a year later and write it off on tax!

If I'm ever in a cab i'll only give the driver more than what's on the meter based on the clenliness of the vehicle (inside and out), whether or not they speak english and come hold a conversation (2 entirely different things), how many times I think I'm going to die (less is better), and the amount of swearing / cursing he / she does (based on my mood less is better / more is better).

FARK ME! You are the first person I have ever seen that agrees with me on Camry drviers!!!!! I thought I was the only one noticing these clueless idiots all over the place. It's good to see that I'm not imagining things.

They usually don't hoon around too much above the speed limit (some of the V8 wannabes with the rear wing etc are big exceptions though) but some of their stunts at or below the limit are so dangerous that I just look out and give them a lot of room everytime I see one. I reckon that if I ever die in a car accident, it will be because of some clueless git in a Camry.

talking about defect, the cops told me that having a boost gauge on my pillar is illegal.... anything mounted above the steering wheel is illegal.

I was thinking... wot about taxi's with their (wot do you call it) unit mounted on the dash next to the pillar..... isn't that the same as having a boost guage mounted there????

WOW! I never though of that. Accutally, what about all the couriers that have the same sort of thing (including clipboards) that are above the steering wheel too.

Much rather hit my head on a boast gauge then one of those big ugly location detection things.

And what is it with cabbies always playing with them? I mean, you already have a fare... you arn't going to pick up more people are you????

I wonder if any got defected for those big commumitations machines that sit on top of the dash board right in front of the driver?

If we can't have A pillar gauges, I can't see how these big bits of metal on the dashs can be legal !

J

Defecting a taxi takes it off the road while it gets fixed, which means it's not earning any income, which means the driver won't be paying any tax while it's off the road, which means the government gets less money. I'm utterly amazed that the cops bothered busting all those taxis, it was probably the first time ever they've done it.

Sports cars on the other hand, don't generate the government any revenue other than the fuel we buy and rego, so they like to throw in some defect notices here and there to help top up the slush fund.

there goes my fluffy dice.... :P

Having used cabs in Sydney and Melbourne, I like Melbourne cabbies. Why? because i can understand the bloke and rates in Sydney are a f*ckn rip off.
