How do ferrari get to sell and register their cars when their exhausts are so bloody noisy?

I was behind an F430 and it did a very small squirt, the sound was louder than the loudest skyline I ever heard.

Nobody ever EPA's their ass? Because they have loadsamoney, a lawyer on speed dial, and live in rose bay?

The volume level that the EPA use isnt a peak loudness, the reading is taken from DROPPING the throttle from a specific RPM to idle. The tested RPM is different for every vehicle. They've got a book which states the RPM which needs to be tested for each type of car.

Anyway you'd probably find that on the ferrari it would be be under 90db. It's only when under heavy acceleration that it would scream like you heard. It's probably the same reason so many bikes get away with having ridiculously loud exhausts.

valves in exaust are illegal for you put in and be controled by a switch, they have to be controlled by the computer so you cant open them when you like, only at the set point by the comp, some bikes have this as well, my uncles new honda bike has this, not sure which one it is, won bike of the year i think tho

u mean like the VAREX mufflers...with the remote controlled butterfly valve in the muffler.........?

think about it.....heres another example.......how the FYLING f**kKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK.......do Chopperz & Harleys get road approved......if the DB limit is 95db or 92 now... Harleys and Choppez will be 10000000000000000000000000db!!!!!

they gotta be the MOST anoyying sounding motor vehicle ever to be invented by man....

because they have loadsamoney?, a 9mm under their belt & part of a Bikey chapter that the cops dont wana f**k with?

theres always gonna be loop holes, but unfortunately it wont be for you and your skyline............

yeah it seems it does have a valve

and yeah it also bugs me that harleys can run straight pipes loud enough to set off car alarms and seemingly some of

them are sold like that right off the showroom floor.

Easy solution that ive come up with and I reckon it is virtually undetactable. Its like varex , get a Exhaust Control valve from Autobarn , a muffler . Weld / attach / watever the ECV onto the muffler. Then build another complete shell around the muffler enclosing it all so it looks stock except for a wire poking out the top. Get the wire attached to a metal rod and have it mounting around the undercarriage so it looks like a clamp and then encase the clamp in metal so you cant see the wire. Hide the switch in your cabin somewher and label it as A/C control or whatever. Make sure the muffler is in the middle not the rear muffler like a cannon. Cops will never be able to detect it without unbolting your whole system and looking into the muffler.

Pretty off topic but I believe many cars have done this as they mega quit on low throttle and instantly go loud at the same rpm. No varex muffler aswell.

i thought th same thing when i was being raced by a fool in a silver 430 in bankstown on friday night. we were just cruising next to each other, then he floored it for 0.0000001 second and he was already 3 car lengths infront of me, then he slowed down next to me and did it like 5 times, abit of a wanker but a very impressive car.... baqsically sounds like a japanese race bike with straight pipes.

WHo says dealing drugs doesn't pay? He was a wog in his early 30's in bloody bankstown lol even to rent one they are an arm and a leg, gota be over 30 or 35, $25000 deposit bla bla bla....

My zorst guy (scotts rods) and I were discussing this the other day, He had what I considered to be a brilliant idea, Make something similar to a varex but run it off vacuum. the more you rev the wider it opens.

Free revving with little or no boost would see it remain mostly closed and quiet.

I had a long chat with Kevin Davis about it, and he sent me some diagrams. He's got the regular, manually operated one using that valve. Just a switch so you can set it to open or closed. When I build my custom exhaust, this is the one I'll be getting.

The next model up, which has both a switch and the option of taking an another input. You can plug it in to an ECU that has can do outputs, or I suppose you could modify a shift light to send the appropriate signal to the unit when you hit a certain RPM.

The one you're interested in detects exhaust backpressure and self-regulates to hold it at a constent level. It'll also take inputs from the TPS and RPM, so if both conditions are met it'll open the valve and let the backpressure drop (and the noise rise) at a legal RPM. I suppose you could configure it to only use one if you wanted.

That'll allow you to downshift and engine brake without waking the neighbours, but if you're up it for the rent you can configure it to open at a legal RPM. It's switchable between open, closed, and self-regulating, but for legality you could remove the switch and have it permanently on self-regulating.

look again, $10-$20k deposit depending on car, $5390/weekend (friday arvo-monday morning), or $670/hour with 2 hour minumum for 430 spider....

also if anyones interested theres a free ferrari rental tour day left for this weekend....

five grand for a weekend. bloody hell.

It would be easier to join that classic car club in mosman. 20k or something, and you get to pick

from a pretty large stable of cars including a GT3, and if you mostly pick weekdays and off-season

you can rack up some serious seat time throughout a year.

although I don't think you can take them on track days. so it would be an exercise in unfulfilled potential.

    • To clarify, I meant nismo bushes, not control arms (don't even think that's a thing for my car). So the suspension specialist said, if I buy those nismo bushes which are perfectly centered it will cause my car to veer in one direction. Whereas he said the current offset bushes that I have were put in on purpose to fix that issue. This will be my third wheel alignment if I put these bushes in lol. My chassis is straight, all my rails are clean.
    • OK, well, in that case, the suspension specialist is either a moron, or you aren't understanding what he was trying to tell you. Nismo arms are not really different than stock arms. Both are fixed geometry. I don't know if the Nismo ones are a little shorter than the stockers (or perhaps even a little longer) or the same length, but....if you swap from stock to Nismo, whatever happens to one side will happen to the other side. It will not cause it to steer left or right. That is unless you have adjustable bushes in your stockers, and they happen to be adjusted to dial out some bent chassis shenanigans. But, if that were the case, you'd just put adjustables in the Nismo arms anyway, because Nismo arms are essentially just expensive stock arms. And doing a wheel alignment is just a weekly thing in my world. I have had the suspension apart so many times this year that I've lost count and just about worn out a torque wrench. I'm out in the shed right now cutting up some alloy section and making bases for my new stringline setup. Got to make new swivel plates next, then I'm good to do toe properly, as well as camber and bump steer.
    • Yeah, nah. Not a thing. The gasket between the top of the plenum and the runners is far more likely to blow out when it gets old, and not really at ~14 psi. These things have been run to double that for 30 years without that being a common thing.
    • I plan to pull the intake manifold off and check the gaskets, i read that the block to manifold gasket can blow over 14psi and when i picked up the car it was set to 1.2bar on the controller. Send the injectors out for cleaning. Ill also pull the cam covers off and do an inspection, check some valve lash. Someone also said that the timing belt can rub or vibrate against the belt cover and make that sound. Definitely need to get an AFR gauge on it, if it was lean idling im sure it wont be happy
