Annoying Sound

Hey People

When car sits on idle, it makes a really annoying sound. Dont know how to describe but its hell annoying. But when you step on the clutch, it goes all quite and normal.

Can some1 help me and give me a clue where would that sound come from ?

could be a bearing of some sort

I get a similar sound, particularly when the engine/gearbox are cold. It becomes quieter when everythings warmed up. I had my local Nissan dealer check it out, and they said it was normal.

But, it could also be the clutch release bearing making a noise - hard to tell without listening to it.

yeah...I've got the same problem...I've been told its the thrust bearing

Can you guyz or someone tell me a cheaper way of fixing it besides replacing the whole gearbox??? That would be a major blow of 2 - 3k if i do change it

I think you will find that the thrust bearing can be replaced.Look and the bearing in the pic,not the brass spigiot bush,you normaly get one with a new clutch.

if it is the thrust bearing/clutch release bearing then you do not have to replace the entire gearbox!

Usually gearbox problems are most audible when the car is in motion...

You can just replace the thrust bearing, the bearing it's self is not that expensive. I think mine was about $45 for the bearing, the expensive part was paying for the mechanic to put it in.

the noise is not always the bearing, its ur slave cylinder, i had my slave cylinder replaced when i did my clutch, never had the problem again, mine was very noisy, the slave cylinder shit it self completely

Mine was making the same noise and it turned out to be the front bearing in my gearbox, it gradually got worse until it nearly shit it self and had to be fixed, it lost 4 balls and the inner race was coming out, very lucky.

silverskyline; Front bearings? How much would that cost to be fixed? Not much but labor is crazy yeah ?

Err when mine was put into the car it was part of the auto to manual conversion.

Sorry dude, I can't help ya out there. Just as a guess I'd think it would take somewhere between 2 to 3 1/2 hours maybe?

wont u damage the gearbox even more if you dont fix it straight away? Are you finding it harder to get into gear too?
