To anyone with an ADM R35 on order.

  1. Have you discussed aftermarket wheels and exhaust with your delears? If you have discussed this, did you get the expected factory warranty response as I did (no commitment to yes or no and caveats regarding direct cause of failure etc.) or did you get something more favourable?
    I had an aftermarket exhaust on my subie years back that subaru aus weren't concerned about.
    I am happy not to experiment with ECU mods at present given they are a sure way to screw your warranty.
    I suspect that nissan will be very precious about mods no matter how small and that people with nissan dealer experience may laugh at my question!
  2. Ayone discuss reversing cameras, satnav and ipod integration? I have got little in the way of satisfactory answers accept to say 'yes, maybe, oneday'

Just curious as to others experience.

The "Agreement" which we all had to sign says Manufacturer's Warranty will be void due to:

Failures reslting from the fitment and use of Genuine NISMO performance parts or non-Genuine Nissan Parts.

The thing is from my understanding they have to be able to show that the modification done caused the failure. An exhaust for example will not result in a transmission failure. I think things like exhuast, suspension, cosmetics you should be right to touch and would win any arguements - but touch the engine or ecu and you would pretty much void your warranty there and then.

I think the biggest warranty arguements could come from the insisted use of OEM oils and fluids however.

I think that'd be debatable.

For example, a nonstandard exhaust could result in more torque (more loading on transmission) or more heat in the wrong areas (melting CV boots or similar).

Both these things could increase the risk of transmission failure.

I think that if you've made modifications, and the modification has increased the risk of component/system failure (not necessarily caused it),

the manufacturer _can_ say 'your modification negatively affected the risk we assumed to warrant the component and therefore the warranty is void'

Then you'd have to prove the mod _didn't_ cause the failure. Which in the case of e.g. transmission failure could be pretty difficult.

Even stuff like suspension's not so simple; e.g. stifffer suspension results in more shock loading of all sprung weight; changes in geometry result in loading changes (possibly, failure) on other components (e.g. axles/bearings) that in and of themselves have not been altered at all.

Of course, if you put a car-bra on and the wheels fall off it'd be a real stretch for the manufacturer to say 'one caused the other'.

I think the key questions that people have to ask themselves before they make any modifications are:

"could my changes affect any other parts of the car in any material way?" because that's what the manufacturer will be asking in the event of a warranty claim.

and;

"can I afford to fix any broken part if the manufacturer says no?" because it's a possibility.

well if it's anything like all the new cars i have bought, relatively minor bolt-on mods shouldnt be an issue. A big variable can be the relationship you have with the dealership & service people. R35 will be an unknown quantity i guess - hence your question/concern - with all the mass attention and paranoia with this car, not to mention the agreements we've signed. I dont see any way of knowing until a year or so down the track.

I've had this conversation with the service manager at my work before. He said for an example if you change the wheels and your gearbox fails the could reject it because its got non standard wheels which means it couldve put more pressure on the gearbox causing it to fail.

The last thing he told me was that its also upto the dealerships descretion. If the service manager is alright then he might still do the warranty for you. After all dealerships do make money from doing warranty jobs

Thats quite true.

AVO dump

HKS cat back

HKS filter

They have no problems with the car being fully covered under a factory warranty with the above mods. Messing with boost levels/aftermarket cumputer tune will have them out with the red texta quick smart.

    • Thanks again, really helpful chap from alpha omega wanted to speak to me, little concerned if this is meant to he aero alloy/ airospace quality and car sitting on drive has caused this.  Airplane are subject to much more changing temp and conditions than road salts!     • The MX5 has had some annoying rattles in both front doors over bumps So I installed fancy pants door bushings, which stopped all of the rattles with the windows up, but........with the windows down there was still rattles, so after some googling,  and a chat with MX5 Mania, I got some new door to glass weather seals, all the rattles, windows up, or down, are gone now Shout out to MX5 Mania, the weather seals were on sale, and when I head to Dural to pick the up they even fitted them for me for free I did see a "really" nice Blue NA sitting out front   and this Black NC PRHT that looked like it has sat in the sun for its whole life and never had a wash, the clear coat was non-existent, an it looked horrible, really horrible, but, it had a nice turbo kit with over 200kw, the thing went like a cut snake, bagging the rears through the gears and dosing like a champ 😍 But, as I've always stated, I am keeping my NC na, I'm happy with the current power the car makes In other news: MX5 Mania do a drive in drive out turbo kit, the only minor additional part recommended for boosting my car, as it sits now, is a oil cooler, and that bonnet vents are definitely required for track use Aftermarket version look a bit to "racecar" spec I wonder how Focus RS bonnet vents would look?????
