Man that's one big beast! I found one outside under our gas heater, could be the heat bringing them out.

"Redback spiders are found throughout Australia, in drier habitats and built-up areas. They are common in dry places around buildings, outdoor furniture, machinery and stacked materials"

Haven't noticed many redbacks, but every couple of months I find whitetails inside the house and normally there will be two at a time for some reason (sometimes spaced by a day or two). Nasty little f**kers.

me too! male/ female ...

kill one, the other goes in search for it, kill that too... have a can of RAID on hand for the babies ..

Don't get many redbacks in my area. See them all the time in the holiday house at Raymond Island (near lakes entrance in gippsland). In my area I seem to get a lot of Huntsmans. They do a wonderful job of destroying my ear drums if my partner ever see's them. They are too big to squash so I usually suck them up in the vacuum cleaner.

Brake clean works the best on spiders ;)

if you wanna be more cruel throw a match in there too :D

I like to spray paint them.....If someone leaves the door on our spray booth open, flies get in there....They also like to be painted...usually when im about to put some clear on i do a patrol an hit em with 2 pack clear....they really spiral down quick!

I rekon I've seen 2 red backs in 33 years around Melbourne.

However do we get black widows in Vic/Australia?

Cause we always get around our place something that looks like a red back,

but no red stripe and is a bit bigger than a redback.

I found and killed 6 at work about a month ago, all in the one day.

They can be aggressive little bastards too, as soon as you stir them, they want to come after you :P

Obviously they didn't realise that my boot is far bigger than they are.

Haven't seen one since I was a young kid, playing with a nest of them with my cousin...there would've been about 20-30 babies and the big 1 which I assume was the mother...

lol while u were doin that, why didnt u go to a bee hive and poke it with a stick and try to touch the queen bee?

i hate spiders all together...you know i once heard this apparant fact

"at one point or another in your life, a huntsman spiders will drink slyvia from you mouth"

not sure of its validity but fkn disgusting if its true

Na we don't get black widdows here, that's north america. Red back is a relative of it. Sometimes they don't have a red stripe it can be brown or not there at all (males). I seen one as a kid which had the red arrow stripe and white dot's on the abdomen.

Also we do get Funnel Webs here in Vic, just not the bastard huge aggressive Sidney one... Yet

We were kids, and they weren't exactly gonna jump off the fence, so it was fun...

Funny thing is, I'm now pretty much arachnophobic...

The question is: Did you squeal like a girl???? ROFL

what do you mean. you cant even hear some girls scream they do so, so loudly their voice cracks, others opt to freeze on the spot, hyperventilate then end up with the feeling hundreds of them are crawling all over them and run around like mad trying to flick them all off...and for others its a combo of all of the above not necessarily in order. But....ah I wouldnt be speaking from experience or anything

As for red backs, have heaps at work...one of my cars was parked out the back for a couple of months and they moved house into it, sold the car shortly after, god help the new owner. A few of the guys at work keep them as pets on occasions, yes we have heaps.

After many bug bombs I have managed to reclaim my garage and my skyline, from the savage mother of all spiders...but I was staking out for quite a few hours. Needless to say, I hate them, dead, alive, skins I dont discriminate. I have even been known to jump up in the middle of the night screaming and flicking like a moron trying to escape the spider on me...boy can i think of a better way to wake up at 2.45 in the morning. My poor room mate must think I'm psycho.

Don't they just crawl out through the tube later?

Was about to grab the mail when I noticed there was a redback between my hand and the mail in the letterbox... I'll come back later

That redback ain't gonna leave. They love mailboxes - the perfect abode. You need to get the surface spray that repels insects and just go nuts into your mailbox..

Lived in Melbourne all my life, never seen one in the flesh.

Huntsmans though, I see those f**kers everywhere. Seriously, I kill at least one per week.

i think this the breeding season for huntsmans. saw a big f**ker a few weeks back and managed to chase it outside and off the balcony. made an audible thump when it hit the ground outside. then yesterday i had to catch and release like five 50cent sized (the coin not the rapper) ones.

daddy long legs .....

leave them, they get the flies and seeker ants ... (those stray ants looking to bring the rest of the clan in)

daddy longlegs are cool. never hurt no one.

My godt just found the biggest bastard in the middle of my garage wall :)

but thanks to a whole can of brake cleaner and my trusty redback work boots i came on top :)

hahahaa ironic innit?

    • Hey all, not sure how active SAU is anymore but will ask away anyways. Just wanted to get some experience on the 2008 model GTR CBA model.  I've hit that age in my life (43) where I'm like fk it time to get my dream (midlife crisis) car. Looking at importing one in and seeing if these can be reliable if the main flaws are fixed up. Plan is to keep money aside to do the following straight off the bat to future proof it: * install a stage 1 rebuilt trans with all new bits and pieces.  * install a new Bellhousing from the later model GTRs. Or potentially an upgraded stronger version like MAD or ATR. Besides the above two things and typical maintenance items anything else you'd recommend doing.   Been speaking to a few people and the engine on these are very reliable apparently. But keen on the view of the community here. Hoping to find a nice grade 4.5 with low mileage in Grey. I'd go black but swirls too easy. Look forward to your responses and feedback. Cheers
    • Do Alan and Keith work on Skylines now? I remember buying stuff from them when I owned my Ralliart Lancer a few moons ago. Definitely genuine guys and be excellent if they dealt with the skyline platform as well.
    • Hey all, I'm Gaston from Sydney's West.  I was a member on here when I was a younger lad and owned a mint R33 GTS-T. Ended up selling it and getting married having kids (yadda yadda) we all know how the story goes. Now I'm back with the intention to get my midlife crisis (dream) car ... a R35 GTR.  You'll see me about asking questions and searching the forums. Good to be back and can't wait to get back an Import again.
    • I have to put something here in order to post the photos. From what I could gather there's more enthusiasm for modified cars now than there has been for years. There were probably more younger people there than older (me included lol) which was a good sign.  It did seem like the record least amount of representation of the 90's era hero cars on display though. Like maybe one or two examples of S-chassis Nissans, and maybe 3 or 4 R-chassis. By comparison there were a lot of Civics from that era but in all there were about 10 - 12 EG/EK Civic Type R.  Euro exotics are always there in large numbers, led by Liberty Walk...... say what you will about kids using markers to scribble on a Ferrari F40, it did seem like a stunt to infuriate Ferrari enthusiasts, or Ferrari itself. I wonder if there's something more to it. Either way LBWK have done some heinous things to a Lamborghini Miura this time. They should stop now.
    • Engines and drivelines are not war stoppers for me mate, busted arse bodies and un-obtainium parts and panels are though Both cheap Brumbies I looked at had trashed tubs and a fair bit of rust
