Is There Really A Rule Against Hid Headlights

hey, can some one explain to me why hid's are illegal on import cars but not illegal on aus delivered cars.

they need to have headlight washers incase lens gets dirty and spreads light into on coming traffic etc etc...as far as i know

Australian Design Rules require cars fitted with HID headlights to have an auto-levelling function and to be fitted with headlight washers to avoid dazzling other road users. They don't have the same requirement in Japan, so most of them run them over there, while we usually get poo-strength halogens.

Of those that are sold here with HIDs from new (eg Honda Accord) look for the washer function fitted nearby the headlights.

the reason i ask is that adr 51, ece 37, allows hids. so basically because they dont have washers or have auto level i cant keep them.

If you want them to be street legal, then no, you can't.
