I have an old Pentium M 1.7Ghz laptop with 1Gb RAM, running XP PRO.

The original HDD died, so I've now replaced it with a 64GB SSD drive (no moving parts). Reason being - more energy efficient, things load much faster, run cooler and are more rugged.

However - I now face the dilemma of "wear" on the SSD - which I want to reduce. I only use the laptop for web surfing/MSN, movies/music, occasional CD burning and checking out my Skyline's health via the CONSULT port. I don't play games on it.

I have 3 options that have come to mind to "reduce wear" on the SSD.

- Leave it as is - it will not make much difference in the life of the SSD - it will wear out regardless....

- Turn off the page file - Would 1 GB RAM be enough?

- Turn off the page file and buy and extra 1GB ram effectively making it 2GB RAM.

I really don't want to spend too much extra money on this laptop as it is essentially just an Internet machine.

Cool - I've done that now ;) . However I've noticed the page file is still in use... Very odd because I restart the laptop serveral times to ensure that the setting applied...

Anyone have any suggestions/tips...
