R34 Xenon Hid's, A D2r Kit Or A H1 Kit?

Hey Guys,

I've got an R34 that came factory with D2R Xenon bulbs.

At compliance they were removed (including ballast) and coverted to H1 55W bulbs.

I'd like to try one of those low cost HID kits from China and Xenon it up again once more.

From what I've gathered reading around various threads, I've already worked out that:

  • I want the 35W ones are plenty (that's what they are stock, no need to go for 55W).
  • I should get 4300K - 5000K ones, as I want the brightest white I can get without any blue to the naked eye.

My question is, should I get a D2R HID Kit or a H1 kit? Would it be better to remove whatever adatper or whatever that coverts the D2R socket to fit a H1?

I'm also interested in what is a good cheapie brand. I know a guy who's been using a 'Conquer' brand set from hidworld.com for 6 months with no problems at around $130 delivered.

Haxorz.

I just noticed this on another thread...

"The Xenon reflectors are designed for a D2R globe light pattern ONLY. In other words, an H1 Xenon globe will produce some glare and will not have the same quality as a D2R globe even though both will be HID lighting. "

Hmmm.... I wonder what I have to do to fit a D2R globe...

i bought D2R HID kit (came with bulb & ballast only cause the seller told me that i can use the standard wiring but mine was cut and removed during compliancing) couldn't get it to work so i sold the D2R bulbs, put in H1 HID kit, had to bend the clip that holds the bulbs down and fit perfectly.

Adapters help you to mount the bulbs easily because of the lamp base. It should look like this and should come with the kit (a pair). they allow connection of OEM specification D2R, D2S & D2C bulbs to aftermarket HV Ballast units.

Everytime i order BOSCH kit i make sure i get the adapters as well.

Dori34 should have got adapters with the kit to avoid bending the clips to mount the bulb. Most D2R kits come with adapters. if you need a kit let me know. It's $200 for BOSCH D2R kit pick up from Syd or $220 delivered in Australia.

Hey champ, narh i didnt get them with my kit, i only got 2x bulbs & 2x ballasts, i had to pay extra for the adapters. I just ditched that, bought replacement H1 bulbs, fitted it up with no dramas

i thought all you have to do it take the H1 base plate out that they put in there, and you're good to go back to D2R? (provided you have ballasts, etc...)

+1 on this, really want to revert back to the D2R globes as its ment for the head lights

it depends how it was done during compliancing. mine was dodgely done, they removed the base, put in a wash modified to take a H1 bulb.

i removed both washers on each headlight but only 1 can take a D2R bulb, the other had the ballast chopped off and rewired & when i put the D2R bulb in, the hole is too big and it doesnt sit there.

how hacked does this look? you can see the H1 base plate in there, i was just under the impression i'd take it out and the D2R bulbs would sit nicely?

how are these base plates usually put in? glued? or will it just pop out? Will i have to oven the headlight to open it up?

I have 2 ballasts on each headlight, one under the headlight and one behind it, both genuine Nissan items, but alas, my xenon globes were removed at compliance. Does anyone have any ideas why I have two? I can't imagine my low and high beam being xenon.

Just installed a D2R HID kit into my BNR34 on the w/kend.

In the process of doing a DIY (Didnt realise how painful DIY's are LOL) but hoping it helps clear up a few

    • I will go over it again, a leak would make the most sense and also explain why I have a high idle issue if I plug the iacv in...I have had everything off, inspected, and replaced every coupler and hose in question, new clamps, reinstalled and basically soaked the entire system with soapy water and find nothing... could there possible be an issue with the wastegate rusted open?? from sitting so long? again the air sound literally sounds like a 3 inch open pipe blowing or sucking air, not just a small passage, very strange.   do appreciate the help
    • Boost leak or exhaust leak. Boost could be from anywhere, including manifold/plenum gaskets. Exhaust is frequently head to manifold gasket or from manifold to turbo gasket. Often caused by missing nuts or broken studs.
    • Check for spacers on the front, in case they've been pushed out a little to try to match he rears better.
    • I should clarify that the previous owner put the wheels on, so Im not entirely sure what he bought. I was searching the Rota page and found these two as the only matches. It did not occur to me that perhaps they sell these wheels with different offsets. I guess the best way to solve this is to take the wheels off and measure them from the inside to be sure.
    • The offset doesn't really have anything to do with dish directly. I mean it kind of does but it also doesn't, it's only tangenial. The offset is purely how much offset (get it) the mounting face is from the CENTER of the width of the rim. I.e, the mounting face would be directly in the middle of the 9.5inches if it was a 18x9.5 ET0 rim. Given it is a +12 rim, the mounting face is 12mm further away from the center (to the outside of the car). Your fronts are +30, so the mounting face is 30mm further away from the center (to the outside of the car). I would wager this doesn't look right, because most skylines generally have the same with guards front to back. So I'd think your fronts look significantly more sunken in than your rears. I'd wager by about 18mm, or so.
