mmm... yeah... i may aswell pull of the turbo and see :)

But a rebuild (if only a gasker) is like $350-400... so it probably can do with one anyways lol!

Plus i might fiddle with it too while it's off, for that extra little bit more.

But yours is easy to get to... i've got my bloody ehxuast manifold to get around, and that's a headache without even starting :(

yeah iv noticed those GTS-r manifolds make it hard to get to the turbo...not only that u gotta get to those water/oil lines

those were the biggest headaches really, that rear water feed line caused numours amount of bruises :(

haha you just love to fiddle with things :)

have u at least just taken off the intake pipe to look for shaft play?

Yeah, if yours is a bitch to get off (I didn't realise that the R31's engine was that much different from the R33's) it is probably wise to get a rebuild either way.

When I took my turbo in to Garrett he said that it might be a good idea to rebuild it even though it was fine, depending on how hard it was to remove and replace. Since it took me around an hour each way (I think), I said I'd just pull it off again when it needs to come off. He agreed that that was the best plan :)

One thing I got told about but I don't know much about is that he said during the rebuild he could install a "360 degree thrust bearing" or something, which is designed to hold more boost (>16psi or so on the T04E). I've got no concept of what that is or why it's necessary, but ask the guy about it when you go in, it's probably worth getting.

lol... i have an R33 engine (remember???) :(

Just not the factory R33 manifold... i still got the GTS-R one. much better i might add... but WAY more painful.

But i also agree.. if i get it off i may aswell do the rebuild. Not worth pulling it off again later on.

And as for holding more boost? Wouldn't it hold about 16-18psi anyways??? Hhrmm... interesting.

Do you have the numer for them (Garret) ? i'm struggling to find it.

Oops I should have double-checked your avatar text

The T04E should hold 16-18psi, the guy was referring to boost above that amount. The TO4E not terribly efficient above that boost level anyway so it might be a complete waste of time. Ask him about it anyway.

That's in Sydney obviously, if you can't find one in Melbourne you might have to ship it interstate

    • This could be sold and shipped to the US for many gold pieces. RMS has no say in that. Ask various Western Sydney inhabitants how it works.
    • Ha ha ha, mine loves to spend, all on the dogs (they're our kids, and her spending would likely rival that of some people raising children!) the only benefit is, her spending is tax deductible as she runs a business in the dog industry 😛 The above all means she can spend race car budget quicker than I can. 😛 That and a lot of the things I want are very expensive, and I can be a bit "you want how much for that?!" And at other times overly impulsive. Or I start the w days of research, get to day 1.5 and get really annoyed that no one will advertise actual specifics and it's just marketting BS and I go "well, now I don't want anything to do with that now!" Also I hate paying lots of money for something I can make from $50 in materials. Then I get the shits halfway through making things and wonder why others who just buy parts have more fun... 😛
    • Their 240Z with the RB26 would be a real nice thing to have in a garage to come out for an occasional weekend cruise It's such a cool thing in so many ways Sadly, we have a blue 240Z shell that I walk past every day, just sitting outside a shed at work, it has been slowly disintegrating and falling apart into the ground for the last few years, the owner cannot be found, and I am unable to "claim it" I've been told by work and the RMS, the rust in the body is excessive though, and it has had most of the salvageable stuff, like panels, trim and switch gear stripped off it over the last year or two, work keeps threatening to put it in one of our metal scrap bins, I wish they did though, as it makes Mark sad walking past it
    • Good tips, I like it! 😂😂 My wife is a LOT more frugal than me so it's only me we need to worry about! A splurge to her is buying 2 pairs of socks in one visit at Kmart!
    • Haha, the appropriate response to the question "Is this new?" is "I've had this for a while.". With the unspoken small print that a while may be the time since this morning or five years ago   And to be fair I learned that from the best, i.e. my wife. Because it goes both ways.
