..this is what I've been told, the regulars get good food.

Shouldn't they look after every customer ???

Yes they should or its descrimination IMO.

There is a lot of types of Chinese dishes not just fried rice, lemon chicken and dim sums... LOL!

So lets say your Asian they probley give you the menu with more 'Traditional' dishes and if your Western they give you the menu with a more Westernised/Asian dishes / flavours.

But hey, if you know what your ordering and know of many traditional Asian dishes, then go right ahead and order it and they will give it to you. They probley be quite suprised if you did know and more than happy to prepare and serve it to you.

For example there is a fish dish where it is deep fried fillets in batter mixed with a sweet corn soup type of sauce, I guess that would be more appealing to Western customers as opposed to an entire steamed fish where the head, tail, and bones are left and you pick the meat off, dip it in soya sauce and eat it would be a more traditional dish.

Yes Iam serious, we Asian steam a whole fish and eat the meat out of the cheeks / head and there is a bit of meat towards the end before the tail. LMAO!!!

But I have seen western ppl order and eat the same dish. So if you know what you want just order it and they give it to you.

you gotta be a regular to appreciate it.

whenever i walk in the dude's already written down pork ribs with spicy salt and mixed fried rice on his piece of paper. and the food... well at 3am nothing tastes better.

Its not the best food, and to be honest if you're a Evo driving yuppie you'll never come back once you've eaten there... and it's probably better kept that way too. But for a night with the lads its a decent meal, and a good setting for a fortnightly catchup.

Anything tastes good @ 3am :D

But we just went in there, ordered, it was average.

I could name a dozen places in the CBD as i eat Asian about 3-4 times a week that are all better than RK :D

Agree 100%

It doesnt claim to be the best restaurant in Melbourne. Its not aiming at the elite clientele, and doesnt boast how good its sevice is.

What it does do is offer a decent feed for a fair price. I know that each time i go there, I get a seat, my Chinese tea and a BBQ Pork on Rice for like $8.50. I have never had a bad meal there, but i dont expect it to be absolutely the most amazing meal ever either!

When i recommend it, its because its BYO, you can get a table for 12 people and you can have a good feed for under $20 per head

hahahaa i lvoed the "strangely incongruous glass chandelier looks like its brother might have been smashed by a Jackie Chan roundhouse kick in one of his earlier Hong Kong movies"

lol

havent tried this place. but will one day

china bar box hill know my usual meal, better than RK IMO... need good asian in malvern/toorak, found a good indian place, they know our order ;)

Sun Luk is my favourite in the Malvern area. Not cheap like China Bar, but it's good

Penang Affair on Brunswick St is f**kING AWESOME... spiderbait wrote a song about it

Haha, Ask Roy about that place. It used to be 5 minutes from our office untill we moved. He still yammers on about that place. Pete or something is the owner yeah?

Red Emperor...Melbourne's best.

I eat there everytime im down there.

Never disapointed.

Weekday lunchtime, all you can eat Yum Cha... best $$$ you will ever spend!

Pacific House on Victoria St is the place to go for duck IMO... there is one on Toorak Rd as well but its just not as... authentic

    • Hey guys, Just thought it might be of interest to owners of the RB25 det NEO motor, that awesomeness Nitto are in the late process to produce an engine gasket kit by end of Jan 25.  I think obviously there will be an 25det kit too. cheers, Ian

    • Bumping this thread yet again, has anyone ever tried putting yet another vacuum regulating valve on the hose that goes between the turbo inlet? Something local owners have mentioned is the Radium breather pipes de-restrict the valve cover but it actually produces an undesirable outcome in practice, way too much air is sucked out of the crankcase and a ton of oil comes with it as well. As far as I can tell the PCV diaphragm in these modern euro wet sump performance engines is active during boost as well, there's just a check valve to block boost from entering the valve cover and crankcase as there's no inherent check valve function in these diaphragm-type valves. Hopefully I'll be able to try some of this out soon. The Volvo XC90 4.4 V8 has a nice external version of these things.
