Hello

I am turning 18 in a few months and bought an R34 25GT on saturday.

I'm slowly adding to it over the next 4 months so that when I'm 18, the car will be just the way I want it.

I've never bought tyres before so I'm not sure what to ask Tyrepower when I take in the car and rims to be fitted and balanced.

What would be the best tyres for 18x9.5 on the back and 18x8.5 on the front? The wheels are DTM Z7's.

I don't really understand the numbers, eg 235/40 so if someone could explain that would be great.

Cheers!

mate you're going to hear a million and one answers about what sort of tyres you should buy!! being just shy of 18 i doubt you're doing any track/drift sort of stuff - so for 8.5"/9.5" rims something like a 225/40/18 front and 245/35/18 rear.

now, those numbers mean this:

245 - the tyre width in millimetres

35 - the sidewall compared to the above width (as a percentage)

18 - diameter of the rim in inches

hope that makes sense.

have DTM wheels too 18x8.5" all around ..rubber is Maxxis VZ1 or something like that. 245/40/18 all around

Isn't 225/40 a bit too narrow for 18x8.5" ??? I guess the tyre would be stretched? I don't understand why people do that (not being a smartass, I just don't know why its done)

Oh and good choice on wheels AND sizes ..I f**ked up and got 8.5" at the rears, should've gone 9.5 for rears like you.

I think overall diameter of 245/40/18 is closest. If you want bigger on rear you can go 265/35/18 - but they'd cost a packet more. I'd go with 245/40/18 all round.

Oh and what offsets did you get, do they look good?

i have 235/35/18 on 8" (front)

and 265/35/18 on 9" (rear)

on my r34

so since your wheels are a bit wider, something similar to that

or maybe one step up, ie 245/275, f/r

Thanks for all the help :(

I havn't actually bought the wheels yet, I was about to but the supplier off these forums told me that they might not fit over the brakes on the R34.

So I think I'll have to find some different wheels instead.

if you have an R34 GT (non turbo)

they should fit over the brakes fine

only the turbo models have the big 4 pot calipers where you have to worry about wheel/caliper clearance

Thanks for all the help :(

Ahhh thanks heaps for that.

That must be why the guy said "might" not fit.

Well in that case, I can get the wheels that I really wanted now :(

Yup, msnismo tried installing r33 gtst calipers on my fronts (ji have a r34 gt25 too) and my rims didnt clear them, so i bought new ones!

looking at getting 255/35/18s on the rear
