Anyone ever driven to NT?

I've never been there so can only make suggestions.

Grid is usually to stop animals crossing by walking along the street. Was there a fence on both sides of the road? The dingo fence?

yeah, there's plenty of grids on the roads, most of the sturt highway is unfenced, we saw some horses and emus but luckily no cows this time (we had a whole herd of cows wander over the road in front of us @150 on the way back from Ayers Rock...)
