with aftermarket gauges, what should it normally read?

need to work out wether my sensor's farked...

I assume your asking for temp? If you have a Power FC + commander you can compare to the stock one.

Usually around 70-80degrees which is under halfway on the factory gauge @70degrees celcius...

A lot of other people run 80-90 degrees which is probably half way or past half way on the standard gauge, which I hardly ever look at so I'm just guessing here :(

Hi there

160~180 deg F is about ballpark for lite use. (160~180)-32*(5/9) for deg C................. (degC*9/5)+32= Deg F or yoostabe, back in the bad old days.

You need a known good sensor to isolate source of error.

Find/steal/borrow known good replacement sensor & place (whilst still connected to your wiring harness, ignition on~ might need extension lead knockup) in cup of ice cubes floating in water, 60/40 mix, for 0~4 degC check of gauge, place in cup of boiling water for 95~100deg C. or there abouts. If ya want to get serious place a thermometer in reference liquid.

Alternatively you could plug your display into a mate's motor/temp sensor arrangement & verify your gauges.

My defi reads, 85 or so on regular driving and just above 90 on hard driving. Lcimate will play a big factor as well and also what coolant you're running, I run Texaco extended life and I am thinking about switching to Red Line Water Wetter.

Stock thermostat is 76.5C.

Normal Operating temperature in the region of 82C.

Boiling point of most systems, 110-115C.

Stock dash temp. gauge is useless, half way (few mm either side) ranges from ~60C - ~95C, you won't notice it moving until you've already hit 100C.

Just below the top of the gauge for me is 104C (only seen that high once after a few big burnouts).

85 - 95 for me up here in sunny north qld

Yeah mines about the same Pedro, microtech hand controller displays about 85-90. I've seen it over 90 a couple of times when giving it a bit during the day.

Gotta love our heat lol.

Man i've got it good, runs about 75-80 depending on weather and up to 85 with hard driving in brisbane in summer.

I don't have air con though so that helps get some more air into the radiator.

Interesting :P I am removing my aircon condenser and receiver/dryer soon and putting a pair of thermos where they used to be along with some splitters/guides

i Dont think the water wetter is such a good idea in an rb. It does not stop rusting of the block and eats away the water jackets over time...... Cost me a whole Fuc&in engine!!!

Use it as an additive on the street, running it pure with just water would only be recommended for track use.

the standard ecu and powerfc keep the timing a little retarded and richen it up a little until water temp is 80deg or higher

half way on the stock guage should be 80deg

interesting. myne usually sits at 75-77 and only ever goes higher if thrashing it on a hot day (highest its ever hit is 81). got a pfc and i doubt it would have been over 80 when it was tuned, might explain a few things
