Yep, hit the front left tyre hard into a gutter trying to drift......

The front left castor rod has snapped off and the control arm is bent + the brakes make an awful scraping noise when I brake + the wheel is back (towards the back of the car) more than it should be and is pretty loose.

What have I done?

Is it fixable?

Have I dont any permanent damage?

What parts would I need?

Is it a job I can do at home?

How much would I be looking at for parts and labour?

Dude I did exactly the same thing about a month ago in my R33. In every case it seems to the front left wheel for everyone..pretty strange.

I bent 2 things that im not sure of, and my wheel was pushed way back.

I got the parts through Nissan. Took less then a week to get the parts flown in from Japan and fitted. Cost me about $1000.

You could source secondhand parts and do it for probably half that.

Anyway sorry I cant help you anymore, but just letting you know heaps of people have done it. :)

Now people might understand that message above lil kitty over there:uh-huh:

Snapped 3rd in the wet... Bad idea. Speedo went from 60 to 130:burnout: , in half a second flat, lost it completely, then the front left met with a gutter.

I reckon I hit the gutter at about 70 so needles to say I mangled the rim (lucky it was a stocky), and forced it to sit on a 15 degree angle. Given that, the lower suspension arm now looked more like an elbow join. The steering rack end wasnt steering anymore, and the control arm had seen better days. Also, after the front hit, the rear end slid into the gutter as well scratching the sh1t out of the rim.

Before we go further, can I just say that J-spec ROCK!!!! And anyone wanting to import through them should look no further! Heres why:

Craig from J-spec came to my house and assessed the damage at 10pm. He organised a tow to pick it up the next day and had me back on the road within 3 days!! The whole process cost me $540! That included a tow, 2 new rims, wheel balance and alignment, lower suspension arm, a steering rack end, a control arm, and the car dropped back at my place:D :D:cool: :)

I LOVE J-SPEC IMPORTS!!!!

So basically, if your able to source the parts second hand, and have someone in the know fit it for you, it shouldnt cost too much.

Everybody makes mistakes.

I was doing something stupid (speeding), im sure every1 else that has damaged their car thinks the same about what they did.

As far as we know, hes only damaged his car, not any1 else's, so i think its a valuable experience .

You will be in a similar situation at some point, ease up.

The thing I forgot to mention is, when I snapped 3rd it was accidental. I just put that fraction too much power to those crappy stocky 205 tyres before they went balistic. The same thing happened to my cuz in his VS commo!

Dont speak too soon, it may happen to you...

The tyres wernt changed during complience coz they're sold here in Oz. Bridgestones with 65% tred. Lucky coz it saved me $100s.

Anyway after they die (shouldnt be too long now) its 255 rear, 235 front on a nice set of 18s! Hopefully I'll be able accelerate in the wet... even after a few more mods!:D

    • Well some mostly good news and some slight bad news.  Good news is cylinder 6 did in fact only require a honing and I'm good to run my 86.5mm pistons again. I should also get the block back by end of week. Bad news, had a few surprises pop up. First, main and rod bearings were trashed. No sign of any heat damage. I knew right away what caused this... I had not packed my oil pump originally and spent a lot more time than I would have liked cranking the motor to get oil pressure. It sounded fine once started so I chucked it up to luck and forgot about it. Luckily rod and crank are fine and just need new bearings. Engine builder agreed that this was the cause.    Another surprise that carbon covered up very well that I didn't catch, something got sucked up and went through cylinder 1, 2 and 3. Luckily this was no cause for concern, just needed a bit of cleaning up. Valves look fine but he will vacuum test the head this week to confirm. I'm presuming this was something left over from welding my intercooler piping, but we'll never know. I'm going to thoroughly reclean everything.    So all in all, happy the motor is fine, and I'll get it back much sooner than expected. I'll also be taking the time to convert my WMI system over to direct port. I'll snap some pictures of that when the parts come in.
    • I understand, thanks. Yeah I wouldn't want the car to tip over, I'll try and use the sills, I don't want to risk smashing the chassis rails. I ordered some rubber pucks that have a hopefully big enough slotting. If the front right gives me trouble I can always just make a wood block. I'll measure and inspect the sills closer once I actually take the car up. I hope so, but the rubber blocks I had in hand so far were pretty damn firm, if they are that hard they won't give much way. I'll let you know what happens. Angle grinding rubber isn't one of my favorite tasks. I'll probably start a build thread soon, for my own documentation and "log" as well as sharing what's going on with the car.
    • Kinda something I have been thinking about.  To be honest, we bought it already driving like that.  So there's no telling how long it actually has been driving like this.  Hopefully damage is too bad when we drop the pan.   I am having a hard time finding a site that sells the solenoid for the 5 speed auto, do you have any suggestions?
    • That'll be most likely down the road...  LOL
    • a stock / option or aftermarket?
