Hi everyone.

I bought a CAMS approved fire extingusher, so i could enter track days.

My plan was to mount it in the passenger footwell, but there is a bump where the exhaust passes making it a tight fit.

The car is a 97 Type X 180sx.

Here is some pictures of trial fitting.

Any suggestions on where I can mount it?

Cheers

Don't you need to be able to get to it pretty quickly if need be? If so I would mount behind the drivers seat on the B Pillar, that's where I had it in the rally car :(

If you braked suddenly or crashed, wouldn't that just fly off and make a crater in the back of your skull?

i've tried to put the fire extingusher as in pic.3 but it is very hard to reach it from the drivers seat with the seatbelt on, so it is not very likely to be a practical mounting point :(

Ummm... if my car was on fire, I would not keep driving with my seatbelt on, but stop the car and undo my seatbelt. Just personal opinion though

Me too lol

Another good spot is on the floor behind you just under the front of the rear seats if that makes sense. Drivers or passengers - which ever is easier for you to reach..

I was thinking of mounting it on the drivers side, but was told that it is not a very good idea if it explodes :( (not sure how many cases are there of that happeining)

I tested reaching the extingusher with the seatbelt on, coz just in case your seatbelt is jammed or something after a crash and you mounted your extingusher too far.

I guess i could mount it on the side in the passenger footwell but also but a carboard-cutter knife or something in the center console just in case the seatbelt gets jammed.

As long as you don't have a 20-year old fire extinguisher corroded to the max, it won't explode.

In the event that pressure builds up inside the canister for whatever reason, there is an automatic "Wastegate" in all extinguishers that lets out the pressurised contents once they reach a certain pressure. I think mythbusters threw an extinguisher in a fire, and it didn't do anything, thus debunking that myth.

In the case that an explosion so violent does not give the canister enough time to vent through the wastegate, I would say, you're dead in the first place anyway.

Under the drivers seat is probably the best place to mount it. If it does explode, you have the cushioning of the hard flame-retardant recaro seats and your own derriere. If it is in sight, it will likely kill/blind you. In any case, an explosion in the cabin is probably lethal in any position.

this is legal for track.

use nuts and bolts, not self tappers.

the only place you can put it where you will reach it with a harness is on your centre console. putting it under your seat makes getting to the back very hard.

Mine is in the exact spot as Ryan's, near the centre console. Personally with a harness I reckon it would be one of the easiest locations to reach in an S13

Err no! I suppose if it wasn't mounted well it could fall off but it would hit your seat not your head! Unless you are a little person in which case you'd be propped up to see over the dash.

Seriously it fits well there, you can get to it with a tight harness on if need be and it doesn't interfere with anything, you can even mount it there with a cage!

Mines on the floor in the front between the seat mounting points under the seat on the drivers side.

The standard seat moves unrestricted as if it was not there.

CAMS scruitneers love it as i can reach it with a harness.

thanks everyone :D

I will trial fit it in the driver footwell tomorrow and see if i can still slide the seat with no problems, hopefully it all work fine

hopefully get my shit together to enter the DECA on the 28th

on the offtopic, does anyone know where i can buy some Lucas(TWR) Grand Prix RBF600 brake fluid?

Cheers

    • Hey all, I'm sorry if this has been discussed before.  I have a 2008 Japanese import V36 coupe with nav but without Bose. I bought one of those AliExpress android screens, which for the most part works really well.  The only thing that doesn't work is the air con controls (well sort of) and the factory reverse camera.  The AC can be controlled fine but it doesn't report the change in temp and mode to the screen, and the volume knob/other audio controls from the panel don't register on the learning app.  I am pretty certain that the problem is the difference in the head unit between base model (Nav but no Bose) 2007-2009 coupes and anything after 2009.  Mine is the one with the blue connector all the way to the right as seen in this forum post:  The reason I think this is there is one wire left over that doesn't fit anywhere on this head unit, or in the factory screen which also uses different connectors to more recent versions.  I've seen the upgrade from OWC, and have sent the guy a message on eBay but no response yet.  I also don't particularly need the whole kit, just *maybe* an adapter for this one cable.  Did anyone else here have the same problem, or have any insight about what I can do to get this working?  I have been in contact with the seller but all they seem to be able to do is ask for more pictures and videos. Minor edit to add:  I have been researching and found a screen on Aliexpress that actually specifies my head unit in the listing, so these things do exist.  I will contact the seller to see if the wiring adapters are interchangeable with other screens.   Thanks in advance!
