Take a look at the Adaptronic, it's only downfalls I can see with the current e420c that people can pick up:

In the GTR, it's not plug and play, you need to cut and solder the looms.

It runs semi sequential injection, and wasted spark ignition.

Doesnt' come with an IAT sensor ("downfall" since it's a map ECU)

It has launch control (When you just switch to kill ignition, works very similar to anti-lag), traction control, flat shift, boost control, dual maps, MAP * TPS tuning (Perfect for ITB setups!) full support and upgrades from the people who make it themselves, it's 100% australian owned and backed, the BEST support you could ever get.

Also a feature in the ECU to let you know if more ignition timing will make more power or less. (Is very handy when tuning for peak power on NA cars)

RRP of ECU on last check $1000,

RRP of loom was like $99 plus I think like $150 for a 3 bar map sensor...

Adaptronic also have a new ECU due out very soon, that from what I've heard from testing, tunes take all of about 5 seconds to get a start up and make th ecar move tune...

Couple with the auto tune feature the Vi-Pec is sporting for "30 minute tunes) that Adaptronic have been using for a few years now...

You can be assured a sensational tune... In 30 minutes!

what about autronic ? what model of autronic would suit GTR RB28 ?

i sold my Autronic to get a Vi-PEC.

Not trying to push a product Shane...if your too stupid to open your eyes instead of your gob all the time you might find you will learn something. Many tuners previously installing MoTeC's are now using Vi-PEC...why dont you call up a few and ask why? Are you afraid to learn? Would you rather keep your head in the sand?

Having a dig at Mark's tuning will only leave you looking like a fool...he has the runs on the board. The worlds most powerful GTR (chassis dyno) and the worlds 3rd fastest GTR. And some of the best and safest tuned street cars in QLD.

thanks

Not doubting he has a fast car, but how do his power levels compare to Heat Treatments?

Reece's car is tuned at Speedtech by Andre.

He uses a hub dyno. Note i said chassis dyno. The chassis dyno power record was made with Godzilla's R34 dyno car...not his R32 race car. Its regarded by Dyno Dynamics and Mainline dyno's as the highest reading by a 4WD car anywhere in the world under competition conditions.

How can one learn when there's soo much smoke and mirrors?

I'll just play it by ear

OK Lets start off with a few things

1) Do you have a budget?

2) What do you want to use the car for?

3) Is the car modified or stock?

4) Do you have a workshop or tuner that works on your car?

These questions will help you work out which ecu to get. The first question is the big one as it will determine what sort of ecu you can afford. If you go searching through the for sale section there are always ecus of varying types available. Just bear in mind that if you purchase an ecu not are all plug and play, some need to be wired in to the loom. Also you need to make sure that the tuner that you have, can work on that ecu.

One other thing to note, you shouldn't ask such a broad question, as with everything, everyone has there own opinions/impressions on different products.

they use to be a good ecu, until ray hall jumped ship and f**ked it all

What affect does ray hall no longer being a distributor have on the quality of the computer?

The constant pushing of vipec is getting tiring - provide some facts or give it a rest. If its as good as you say it shouldn't need so much 'talking up'.

On the other hand if so many people are ripping out motecs and puttig in vipecs then thats great, i'll get me one of the motecs someone is ripping out and have me a solid proven ecu :P

Ring Scott at Insight...he has a few there as well as a pile of Autronic SM4's...good ecu's.

But neither MoTeC or Autronic can read a 360deg crank trigger. Vi-PEC and Power FC do that the best.

There is a GTR in Vic. that had a MoTeC in it...but was removed and runs a Power FC...better engine control...no guessing where the crank is. The MoTeC has been left in the car just for logging purposes.

by 360deg crank trigger do u mean the std cam reference? or a proper crank mounted missing tooth setup?

When the time comes with my r32 gt-r rebuild (rb26/30, complete strip to shell, repaint, cage ect ect(might call on you to screw it together)) i'll decide then, but for now the vipec needs to prove itself, the motec already has. No one is saying that the vipec isn't the new viagra like some people are making it out to be, but it needs runs on the board which other ecus have, but as the cliche goes " all in good time ".

I agree totally...the best ecu is one that your tuner is familiar with provided it will run the engine to your satisfaction. Running the Vi-PEC has saved me thousands of dollars as a fully optioned MoTeC was on my wish list. But knowing what i know now im glad i made the decision. Just trying to pass on some advice that may save somebody else the same amount of coin. Mark's keen to run one in his race car to try and run HKS down. Maybe that will persuade some people, I for one have never had my car running so smooth as it is now...massive cams, single throttle plenum, big turbo etc...i can reach inside the car when its cold, turn key and it fires into life and idles like a purring kitten. I could never have done that with the Power FC...even with low-mounts. If i hadn't experienced it myself i wouldn't have believed it...truely a great piece of kit, time will show that its as good as anything on the market, and in some instances better.

Wolf V500 do.

Vi-PEC is designed by RAY HALL who helped do the "manual" for autronic ECU. Great ecu, easy to use, tech support is great just alittle more advanced than SM4 autronic.

All ECU have there pro's and con's.

+1 for the wolf v500. went from a power fc to the wolf. single best mod i ever did. way more tuning options. much better ecu and still does cold start idle up for air con etc. hell they can even run auto boxes.

sure you can't tune it in 30minutes. but what happens when you put quality of tune over speed. i'll pay that bit extra happily

Dirt Garage:

I think what Shanef is getting rather annoyed about, is the fact you keep talking up the Vi-Pec, when ever he asks for info why it's so much better, you just tell him to ring someone else...

It's as though you don't understand why it is a technically more advanced ECU, and that shows that this ECU may not be technically more advanced.

Give some actual info as to HOW it is so much better... Not just say "Ring so and so, they'll tell you"

We want YOU to tell us, since you're pushing this product so hard...

the m800 has a faster board than the m600. its only $400 more expensive so id go that way between those 2.

a fully optioned m800 is going to cost u ~4-5k before you even install it. if ur serious thats the way to go, otherwise get the haltech e11v2

MBS206.... tuners are always the best people to discuss the capabilities of any ecu. They are tuning these things daily and understand the advantages and disadvantages of each product. This is the reason i suggested Shane have a chat to the guys who are tuning the Vi-PEC but also have extensive experience on other brands of ecu.

My experience with this ECU is mostly from feedback from the dealers and their customers and more recently hands on with my own car and Anthony's. My car has never ran as smooth as it does now with the V88. Both the Power FC and Autronic had issues controlling the engine, from cold start problems to stalling, misfiring and poor idle control. I have since learnt that even the Motec i was planning to instal would have been unable to make my car perform to its optimum.

I used to actually dislike driving my car on the road as it was not a pleasant experience battling the ecu with throttle opening to keep the car running properly. OK my car is not your average skyline and is quite extreme but this is the sort of environment where products shortcomings will be exposed. I doubted the car would ever be a nice road car again but the way V88 runs the engine has made the car more appealing to grab the keys and take it for a run...and isnt that the reason we bought these cars in the 1st place.

The forums are an information resource for us all, i have freely given R & D advice on here that has cost me thousands of dollars to obtain. Just like HKS turbo's, if i find outstanding results with certain products or modifications ill share it with people. Is that not why we come on here?....OK the performance of the Vi-PEC has floored me and revitalised my enthusiasm for my car and the skyline modification scene. Ive always said the best ECU is the one that your tuner is familiar with and runs your car to your satisfaction. Even in the Vi-PEC thread ive stated many times that 'this ecu is not for everyone'

Ok Shane...the M800 has a 32bit processor...V88 has 40bit processor. Thats 1...shall we keep going?

I guess you know that Heat Treatments have been using Motec but RIPS are now using Link (NZ equivalent of Vipec) in their big hp RB30s.

For the original poster i would think the Motec is ruled out on price anyway and that would leave the PFC (lots of tuners are familiar with it but it is yesterday's technology) or the Vipec -plenty of capacity at a reasonable price.
