I guess you know that Heat Treatments have been using Motec but RIPS are now using Link (NZ equivalent of Vipec) in their big hp RB30s.

I also know that an average ecu wont cost you horsepower, it just costs you driveability. We built what was at the time nz's fastest stagea (not sure if it still is).

It ran a reytec. It made pretty decent horsepower, but the ecu meant the driveability was shocking, it would randomly stumble on shifts and other annoying crap.

The tuner was very experienced, but it really tested his patience. With a better ecu, and more track time we felt there was an extra .4 to be found in the 1/4 mile without any more horsepower.

My car has never ran as smooth as it does now with the V88. Both the Power FC and Autronic had issues controlling the engine, from cold start problems to stalling, misfiring and poor idle control. I have since learnt that even the Motec i was planning to instal would have been unable to make my car perform to its optimum.

I used to actually dislike driving my car on the road as it was not a pleasant experience battling the ecu with throttle opening to keep the car running properly. OK my car is not your average skyline and is quite extreme but this is the sort of environment where products shortcomings will be exposed. I doubted the car would ever be a nice road car again but the way V88 runs the engine has made the car more appealing to grab the keys and take it for a run...and isnt that the reason we bought these cars in the 1st place.

At which point did you switch to single throttle body?

i sold my Autronic to get a Vi-PEC.

Not trying to push a product Shane...if your too stupid to open your eyes instead of your gob all the time you might find you will learn something. Many tuners previously installing MoTeC's are now using Vi-PEC...why dont you call up a few and ask why? Are you afraid to learn? Would you rather keep your head in the sand?

Having a dig at Mark's tuning will only leave you looking like a fool...he has the runs on the board. The worlds most powerful GTR (chassis dyno) and the worlds 3rd fastest GTR. And some of the best and safest tuned street cars in QLD.

Dude you look more the fool than Shane or anybody else. Jumping all over every ecu thread to spruke Vipec/link gets old very quickly. As for marks tuning, Maybe if you lived up here among the import community you would not be so closed minded.

Obviously mark can tune a big hp car, so can any other tuner given the opportunity. but like all tuning shops there are as many "unhappy storys" come from Marks workshop as any other.

To my mind Tuning a big hp car to run for a few seconds would not represent the challenge involved in tuning a car like mine. 500 hp that gets daily driven, tracked, dragged and used in general. I want a car that will cold start, give good economy on cruise, track in a qld summer without pinging its head off and generally behave itself. No doubt mark can do those things but over 1000 hp would not be the credentials I look for when picking a tuner.

I swear by my tuner but I know and respect others who wont use him simply because of their experience. He gives me

what I ask for and you cant do better than that.

Take this as a mark bash if you will but it isnt. I am simply saying he isnt God when it comes to rb tuning. just another of many who happens to own a helluva quick drag car and can be as fallible or infallible as the next guy.

p.s. I use a haltec E11v2 and couldnt be happier.

been using alot of the LINKS lately (rebadged in australia as vipec) and at 1200-1500are hard to beat, we had a good play with the knock control again today on a tricky application (High comp and big boost) on the LINK G4 EXTREME (V88 vipec in aus) and it is extremely effective and useful as a safegaurd.

BUT bear in mind a good tuner can get the same result from on a 300-380awkw car with either a PFC or a NISTUNE, the reason we are using alot of the LINK product is the VALUE as we cant get a hold of new PFC's etc for anywhere near their purchase price.

Best bet is speak to your local tuner and find what they like to use as many places can and only tune particular products.

Trent, can you supply them to me at that price or can you tell me who you get them from...that is an incredible price mate. Are they G4 Storm's or G4 Extreme?

The knock control function is a great feature as our circuit GTR that used to run a Power FC (now runs a Vi-PEC PnP) filled up with what was marked Synergy 8000 at the bowser. Shortly after leaving the servo the car started pinging its arse off. Dave rang me and asked what i thought, i said he may have filled up with incorrect fuel. On returning to the servo the manager told Dave that the tanker driver filled the Synergy tank with regular unleaded (but there was no warning on pumps and they were still charging Synergy price). If the engine was running cast pistons it may not have survived, but if knock control was available on the Power FC it would not have been an issue. The manager told Dave when they got Synergy back in he could have 2 free fills. My question was how many people were buying that fuel, were none the wiser and were getting ripped off by Mobil as well as potentially damaging their engine.

^^^^ You'd be surprised how often this happens. Sometimes they mix left over 98 with regular and sell it as premium. I know this for a fact as have had to deal with a servo through work which has done this before.

I run NIStune and am very happy with it. Got it very very cheap and Trent tuned it awesomely!!

nobody appreciates the latest hks fcon vpro? with the hks knock amp, map selector ..

can control sprayers, retard with knock. tuner says it is set and forget as it can be setup

closed loop with O2 and A/F sensors .. and 3.3 can now control the hks v-cam directly, so

no need for another box if you get that. Hook up hks icamp to a screen and there isn't

a stat that is unknown in realtime.

yeah ok so it is a little pricey but not as much as the motec yet with key features that

make the motec cool. And a proper gtr harness plus you keep your stock ecu in the loop

if not actually doing much.
