Recommended Posts

Howdy all... I'm Matt from Dr Tuning Mobile Performance

I am holding a car cruise on sunday the 1st of march at the Penrith Regatta centre, meet up is at 10.30am & will be heading out to the Yellowmundi / Hawkesbury lookout via castlereigh rd at 11.15. It will be a great cruise path as there is no traffic lights in sight from point A to point B & cold mountain air for that extra HP. ''The 'twisties' going up the mountain are priceless''!!!

We will be providing a free sausage sizzle on return and free entry is a bonus. We have the P5 carparked booked for the occasion and can hold up to 100 cars easy!! Awesome views & plenty to see at the Regatta centre... Can't be missed!!!

So come along, come say hi, enjoy yourself & come meet your local 'mobile' performance specialist... Dr Tuning!! Whether its more power your desire or better fuel economy for that street machine, we do it. Specialising in Microtech & Apexi tuning, turbochargers & Ignition systems!!!

You can contact admin on 0415420566 (Scott) or my self on 04 DR TUNING... Hope to see you there, thanks :)

The "twisties" are currently under construction (widening them) so plenty of signs + construction vehicles around. The Hawkesbury lookout will only handle about 20 cars, the carpark across the road will handle about 20 more.

Also, it's called Yarramundi not Yellowmundi :domokun:

Cool, hope to see some of you's there... But, they ARE not widening the road up the mountain, they are working on the rock work as it keeps falling every now and then. Though very rare, i have asked about this and sorry mate, wrong again, it is called 'Yellowmundi' up there... Lol. I have lived there all my life pretty much...

Its 'Yarramundi' as you get onto the Springwood / Hawkesbury rd through to the 'YMCA' there and at the top of the mountain through the bush is called 'Yellowrock'!!! So that lookout (Check the sign up there) is in the middle of the two places and so is the area around there, hence why that part is called 'Yellowmundi' (Yellow-rock & Yarra-mundi together) Lol.

And yeah, it only hold like 40 cars, but we will be heading up a little more to park...

Thanks again, Matt :)

That's correct that the rock face is being secured currently to make it safer for road users!

2 points to note...

i) Springwood/Hawkesbury Rd from Yarramundi to Agnes Banks has been frequently patrolled by unmarked keystones for about 5 months now. There is an easy solution to this tho'

ii) If you do decide to proceed a bit further past the lookout into Hawkesbury Heights, the speed limit has changed last month from 80Km/Hr > 60Km/Hr. And then it changes again to 80Km/Hr on the run towards Winmalee where it's 60 again of course.

Tez

Thanks for the sausages and time taken to put it on. Ignore the sign at Yarramundi advertising Mineral Water for 20c/litre since they're not open on a Sunday (only Saturdays 10-4 and Wednesdays after 3pm).

i might be persuaded to attend. Depending on the health of the skytanic lolz. Cuz im swappin out my gearbox on saturday. So ill let ya know.

wheres P5? thats final Destination yeh?

For anyone coming west to Penrith, you'd take the Mulgoa Rd offramp to Penrith > turn right towards Penrith.

Proceed along Mulgoa Rd and at the intersection of High St (where there's also a red light cam), cross it and > it becomes Castlereagh Rd.

Keep going straight till you hit the Andrews Rd Roundabout > turn left to the regatta centre and this is still the old part of Castlereagh Rd.

    • Hows your intake piping? Are you still running stock? Having in the stock AFM position would mean, if the BOV was shut/venting out, it'd create the almost stalling kind of effect right // "the rich pulse behaviour" due to MAF thinking air is flowing ? But this would be better than having the bov in the stock position + MAF on/just before cross over piping right?
    • Essentially, yes. Although I wouldn't put the AFM on the crossover pipe. I'd want to put it into what amounts to the correct size tube, which is more easily done in the intercooler pipework. I bought a mount tube for card stile AFM that replaces the stock AFM - although being a cheap AliExpress knockoff, it had not flange and I had to make and weld my own. But it is the same length and diameter as the stock RB AFM, goes on my airbox, etc etc. I don't have a sick enough rig to warrant anything different, and the swap will take 5 minutes (when I finally get around to it and the injectors & the dyno tune).
    • So to summarise, the best thing to do is to move recirc to between turbo and IC, and maf on the crossover pipe. Meaning I'd need a recirc flange, drill a hole in the piping on turbo outlet area. And drill hole on crossover to fit/weld maf sensor? Either that or put the MAF on the turbo inlet right?  Is an aftermarket recirc/blowoff valve recommended? Do currently have family in Japan so could probably bring something back with maybe a cheeky lil SuperAutobacs run?
    • Yep, so far most have said that it looks like corrosion on the wall from piston not moving. Which then has probably damaged the oil rings and caused those vertical marks. The longest the engine was still after the rebuild, was the winter of 2018 - 2019, plus the boat trip to Japan. When I shipped the car, it had normal gas in the tank but before that winter pause, it had E85 in tank.  In any case, even if either one of those was the cause, it happened close to 6 years ago and the car has been driven something like 30 000kms after the fact. Again, apart from the plugs and the dip stick, there is nothing in the way the car runs that would indicate what has been going on in the engine. I am going to consult a shop and ask their opinion, what would be the best approach. I do have some access to a garage I could use to diagnose further myself, but time is very restrictive. Might end up buying another engine that could be used while this one is being remedied. Without pulling the head, it will be impossible to find out if it needs another bore, but here's to hoping a hone would suffice.  Goddamnit, I would really have preferred this not happening.
    • Boot is going to be replaced eventually. I just wire brushed what I could and rust converted. Then painted in rust kill primer. the spoiler also got repainted and plugs replaced on the ends. The under side of the bonnet is going to be black also, currently white. But red on the top side, same colour code as the silo to begin.
