lol.

1 person of status disagrees, watch everyone jump on board.

ive said it before, ill say it again, stop trying to fight the law, you will lose.

lol that made me think of this:

But honestly, everything has now been said and done, why argue points from 3 weeks ago?

It really doesnt matter how good the relationship is with SAPOL and who knows who.....

The fact is organised car cruises represent a gathering of people with generally illegally modified cars that are getting together to show each other their cars, talk cars, and finally drive their cars. Rarely do people with totally stock Hyundai Accents go to these cruises because they dont give a damn about their cars...

To the Police organised cruises represent a rare opportunity of shooting fish in a barrel by ridding the roads of a potential menace, congestion, and anti-social car behaviour. While this might sound damning I cant remember being on a car cruise in the past 20 years where multiple traffic violations havent occurred. Now be honest with yourselves and who hasnt given it a squirt alongside their mates on a cruise, thats part of the fun, right?

And so is SAPOLs determination to stop these gatherings and the resulting activity. You drive an illegal car, you invite the Police to your cruise, they will defect you. They see roadworthiness as your safety as well as their job, and really they should have explained that you. No amount of brokering deals will ever change this, its all been done many times before, and will be again in the future. The result will always be the same.

Enjoy your modified cars, but be sensible enough not to do it in groups if you dont want to be defected. Go for drives meeting up somewhere out in the country, and then keep it to a minimum. Dont drive through built up areas or the cruise strips attracting unwanted attention. Rather than trying to change the law, its time to change your thinking....or keep playing the defect game. As one old Copper told me in the past "Try as hard as you want mate and put it through stock again, we will just keep pinging you every time we see you....and we ALWAYS win. You will get sick of it before we do".

Know what? He was right :ermm:

i honestly agreez with mr donnon

no im not the most sensible out there, far from it, but im stoppin how i look at things due to recent events, as said before like it or not the cops will win

its like snakes and ladders

u build the car up, and they come along and bring u back down, then u go up again and u fall even harder the second time, hell i never won a game of snakes and ladders and it like that with an import

but for the real hard passionate drivers, not the cruising type of people, but the 80 km/h+ sidewayz people, and i know there is a couple on here

SAVE IT FOR THE TRACK and buy a car dedicated for it

thankyou :)

moral - BUY A TRACK CAR, OR SAVE UR PASSIONATE SKILLS FOR THE TRACK

and i wont use hooning, coz if you know wat ur doing and had practice, ur not a hoon, ur a skilled/passionate driver

R*K are hoons

Its unfair for us to expect the police to believe you've done your mods safely and correctly if you're not qualified for the job. Producing invoicing for work completed or at least 'safety checked' by a pro is the fair and proper way to do things. There are alot of dodgy mods out there and they are unsafe, you know this. You can't ask for special treatment because you "know what you are doing". These have been famous last words. The police would like to see evidence of a qualified professional doing the job. I love working on my own car, but I also love ensuring everything is right and safe. I have no quarrels at all with having most or part of the work completed by a pro. It only commonsense guys. Before you go bombarding Neil with trivial questions, push your pride aside and try using a bit of commonsense first.

innocent til proven guilty, they should have to prove its unsafe, we shouldnt have to prove its safe. unfortunately it doesnt work like this, we have to pay $130 just to prove our own innocence even if we havnt done anything wrong.

the defect system is an absolute disgrace and until its fixed some police will continue to abuse it, i think its great that we are working with a few police officers, but if we think for a second this will make any noticable difference on the streets we are kidding ourselves. maybe as far as SAU cruises are concerned there might be a bit of releif, but the hour or 2 i spend on a cruise once every few weeks is hardly going to make a difference to the many hours a day i spend on the road having to take special "anti-police" routes, having to position myself between cars in my lane to hide my car from police cars going the opposite direction and having to spend every second on the road searching for police cars, just so i can limit my defect count to only a few times a year instead of more.

im sorry, i just dont beleive the problem can really be solved until the defect system is fixed, which i dont see happening any time soon as it is cost efficient and doesnt affect the majority of the public, and nobody gives a shit about the hoons, they deserve to have their cars taken off the road, so why change it?

like i said, any cooperation between us and sapol is a step in the right direction, i just dont think people should be rushing out of their bomb shelters just yet.

I disagree.

Then you've obviously been on the wrong cruises. As a matter of fact, I haven't seen you attend any SAU cruises that I've been on in the last 12 months. All the cruises I've attended (and organised) have not once resulted in any defects or traffic violations. We are discussing SAU cruises and the SAU reputation here. Your observation is just that: "your observation".

In any case, the concern is with defects and the fairness of defect, not "multiple traffic violations". Keep on topic please.

Nisskid is right, the defect system needs to be fixed, and Neil has informed us that the wheels are turning to fix that problem.

Already been said by my self. I'll stop repeating, thats it from me. :)

Yep ... I'm tired of repeating myself too. Some people are not listening ... their ears are only open to what they want to hear. So I've said enough and had enough. Its easy to lead sheep when you feed them what they want. Try to make a difference and people get all negative and disbelieving.

If everyone wants to live in a box, thats fine by me. Some of us are trying to make a difference. Others will never believe, and would rather watch FnF over and over again :)

I think you need to take your own advice on some other topics.

I think change is great but it all last awhile and then goes back to the same old system.. A few of us have been around for a long time in the car scence and have seen this all before..

When I see the changes then I will believe!

Other topics? We're talking about the defect problem in SA, not NSW. I don't see many members putting in the work to make a change. And I've been around the car scene long enough too (20 years) thank you. You haven't noticed changes in 20 years? I pity you.

Stay on topic please.

then you either have memory loss problems, or are lying.

ive been on 3-4 SAU organised cruises and every time have seen traffic violations, "prominent" members of the SA SAU giving it a squirt over the speed limit, burnouts from lights, no indication between lanes, short drag races and you realise when you do a "tunnel" run and everyone slaps the exelarator that is noise polution and therefor against the law, and isnt that even a hoon law now?.....

so either open your eyes or dont lie

This thread is never going to go well due to there are people that sit on two sides of the fence.

Even if you do talk to one cop "Neil" it doesnt change the fact that the rest of the police force in SA will start thinking the same..When they pull you over they do so on there own judgement!

All modifications are illegal due to the car didnt come out with them from factory so if you modify you run the risk..

I have learnt like Martin you cant win and the safe way to go is get a daily car and take your hi powered car off the streets - to Drags or Track!

maybe the next step is to start making movements to mod plates? talk to local MP's or senators, there is no logical reason why we shouldnt have these plates in SA, the cops still get there revenue and we get to feel that little bit safer

i think what he is saying they occur, not that they get pinched for them.

Thats how screwed the whole thing is....if you cant be truthful to yourselves ie. some if not ALL SAU members will break the speed limit on a cruise (which is why cruises exist in the first place).....then dont ever expect to pull the wool over the cops eyes either. Remember when you were a little kid and heard Fairytales at bedtime? Ever heard of 'Little Red Riding Hood' - "Oh what big teeth you have Constable Neill"

Now put him to the test and show me I am wrong...

Make sure you have wireless Broadband so you can post from the waiting room at Regency Park......

    • People still have Skylines? I thought they're non-existent now.
    • Harness update time have had great fun and learnt so much already so far with this project. I started off making both the ignition and injector sub harnesses in the hope any mistakes i made here aren't as hard to undo and learn from as the main harness.  A cool comparison of the old harness using presumably TXL wire and the new which is using Tezel. Also opted to use DTM plugs to keep the whole setup as neat and tidy as possible and tucked the wiring under the coil bracket to try and keep it all from sticking out too much. Although the injector harness, I'm not overly happy with as I'm still using the rubber boots that are supplied with the type of plugs it just looks ugly and sticks out like a sore thumb with the white identifiers so a slight redesign may be done.   Then it was main harness time and most importantly trying to route it nice and away from the heat it will use the OEM heater hose routing which is no longer present to keep the harness up high and secure. it's amazing how much smaller this harness is able to be compared to the old one. plugged everything into the emtron and with the help of the tuner again attempted to start it up and instantly fired up and running smoothly on all 6 which was a big shock to myself. So still some routing and adjusting to be done for the final fit up and installing a knock sensor harness plug which is in the post all has gone surprisingly well.     The old harness for shits and giggles.
    • They do that at random every now and then, with almost no detectable cause. Mine has done it a couple of times (over 25 years!!). Never worked out why.
    • I don't post on here and have been lurking for some time now. Many of the topics have helped me out more times than i can count. I was racing yesterday (11/9) and blew a front right CV shaft. I have spares so I popped a new one in. A thread i read previously said to check the engine mounts if you blow a front CV. Upon inspection, the front right mount was completely separated from the upper plate. This discovery saved me time and money, because i would have blown another CV if i went back out. Just wanted to thank you guys and wish everyone luck with with their builds. (Now if we could only come up with a solution for my power steering belt flying off after hitting the rev limiter, lol)
