If you're the 1st owner in Oz, it is 'best practice' to replace the Jap water/coolant and replace it new stuff. This policy can save you from a new radiator, heater core etc. This is the start of your process of elimination. Congrats on your new acquisition!!!

^^Good stuff!

I use Tectaloy 100 radiator coolant, which is pre-mixed and designed for Turbo cars.

Also if you want to enhance your cooling in the engine bay, you can install a R34 GTR V-Spec II carbon fibre bonnet as they have a NACA duct positioned above the twin turbo system and it would give you extra cooling.

They are a straight fit bolt on.

Unless you have a V-Spec II than all is good...

There are a couple of different rating thermostats available, one of which will do that. Certain BMWs capitalise on the availability of these too.

And since you've already changed the coolant, you didn't forget to bleed the remaining air out did you? Your temp will go up if there's any air left in there.

would a 52mml alluminuim core raidiator keep it cooler or keep the temp lower than standard raidiator???
Doubt it (refer latest HPI)

Isn't 98 a bit hot for "cruise", ie low load? That would suggest a problem with the water pump - occasionally the vains rust away and it can't circulate coolant as efficiently.

If you upgrade your radiator, it will help with cooling, but if your not doing any serious track work, there is not much point... But dosen't hurt to change it either.

You might want to check your water pump, but I doubt it will be the problem.

On a hot day, your temps will always sit alittle higher then on a cooler day.

I would keep a look out for your oil temps too... Does it go up like your water temp or is it sitting at a regular temp?

I dont see any higher thatn 83-88 for water temps (on a 38 degree day it reached 90 but i put the heater on the bring it down)

oil temps are about 81 on a cold night and go as high as 85 on a hot day cruising but ive never seen higher than 90degrees ever

From memory thats seems fine on a hot day as my car can get to those temps too. + it depends if you run your A/C or driving up a hill, anything that requires the car to be rev'd alittle harder with effect the temps. Again its normal.

Normal crusing temps are just under 90 degrees.

From my understanding, the R34 GTR's seem to hold quite a consistant temp, even with a bit of a fang.

My friend Tim GTR on SAU has a R34 GTR V-Spec, I took it out for a run, hammered it down the straight and a few corners, then check the MFD with the oil and water temps and they seem stable and yes within that range from about 91 to 98, I think it sat at about 93 degrees C.

What engine oil you using?
