']got some pics of my car today all shiny and clean haha and 1 with the new 17s on the back (just for a photo tho not leaving 17s on the back and 15s on the front! haha)

i reckon some AVS Model 6 rims, or Enkie 5 spokes would look sweet on the front in 17", with the Rays on the back. what you guys reckon?

Are the new rears the "rays" you're talking about? Personally,I think they're a bit skinny! I like the Wantanabe's better, maybe just with a fatter rear, but that's just me! :D Very nice looking DR by the way Ant! Very clean. That does look like an HR31 front lip, doesn't it......

0HR30T - yeh the rears are the Rays rims i got. they are a bit skinny i guess, 17x7s they are. the Watanabes are 15x6s. couldnt put my finger on quite what didnt look 'right' about the Rays but must be the width. im gonna hang onto the Watanabes too though, so i can pick and choose i guess. i think ill stick to Watanabes if ever get into club event/track type stuff so i dont mess up the 17s and to save on tyres haha but then it probably wont grip/handle aswell with the smaller wheels *shrug* :)

Yas - haha yeah man my exhaust is ****en huge. everyone always says that. it came on the car that muffler, its massive muffler and then 5.25" tip! u can easily fit ur closed fist into it with room to spare. probably a bit big but im not gona take it off haha you probably get a muffler with a 3 - 4" tip. probably be pretty hard to get one as big as mine anyway!! haha

good to see some life in these post again!!! asked prank to move the thread to a more fitting area... anymore power into a rb20 than 200rwkw and its time for new injectors and fuel pump..then its upwards and onwards to the 300rwkw mark, at or around that point it'll be time for a new bottom end or replace the bits left!! i'll be looking (over the next 12 months) to get to the 250rwkw mark that'll keep me happy.....HOPE WE LIKE OUR NEW HOME!!!

with rims: the R33 N/A skyline has the 4 stud pattern but does anyone know if the if offset is about the same? i've got my hands on a set of volk 16" rims from a r33 at next to nothing $$ wise..

dude id say that the offset is about the same, im only surmising however i know people that put NA R33 rims onto their s13s without troubles, and s13 rims generally fit 30's okay i think. so id say you'd be right with 16s from a 33!

0HR30T - can u even fit 9's on the back without coilovers n stuff? haha ill have to get some better rear-on angled sortof pics eventualy of the rims .. i only had 1 photo left on the digicam card so i just took 1 pic from a good general angle !

ah in classic skylines now i see , i stil used the link from general chat haha

9's would go under the stock rear end,but they'd have to be spot on the right offset I think.

This thread is now located in Classic Skyline's.Not in General Discussion....It's a new section a bit futher down the page....

and I notice no ones flamed me about my RB20 comments.... where's Ghostrider?

Edit: ok,so I was too late :(

Hey all,

Just joined, I've got an '82 DR30, fj20t (of course) needs looots of tender loving care, just blew the box a couple of weeks ago, its got a box out of a 720 ute in it now :-) I had one lying around...just to add my 2 cents worth to the speed in second gear thing...I got 130kph at about 8000rpm :-) and it didn't seem to have any intention of slowing down.

Can't do it now though, only got about 0-90 now..gets there really fast though!!

Catch you all around.

hmm dunno why it says i have none either ... i wasnt too sure how to use the gallery thing took me a while to suss it out so maybe i didnt check a box somewhere along the line or something :) but they're in there haha

lol yeah man ****en love the shine! i used the red coloured Turtle Wax on the body, and then this bumper black stuff which is kinda like black shoe polish on the bumpers & side plastics to make sure they're black as the rest of the car. I love the side on pic where you see all reflections along the side :D

hmm now you guys make me want fatter rims haha ah well i just impulse bought those 17's i wasnt really intending on upgrading, just ive always liked the look of them and thought they'd match the car coz they look pretty old school (tho theyre made 1992 by the sticker on the inside, so theyre nearly 10 yrs younger than the car!). they have a +36 offset. not too sure how much room they have to the strut, probably couldve gone 0.5-1" wider. but like i say, i just bought them on a whim for 200$ the pair!

i was thinkin of getin some 16x7 enkies for the front rather than waiting for 17s .. but then 17s will look better =]

hey [ant] is it really worth all that shine cos winter means a lotta shitty weather hey... ^^ my car needs a bit of a polish but i cbb (cant be bothered) cos its just gonna rain on it again =P

i uploaded photos too and it still doesnt have that photos = 0 with a link on my name...

yeah the shine will go ... but my car has a bit of scratch on the passenger door under the doorhandle, and a scrape along the wheel arch/side on passenger side also .. i polished it day after i bought it (new years eve last year haha) and it covered those up .. then i noticed them again after i washed it, so i just polished those areas, & they ended up looking way shinier than the rest so i had to do the whole car!!

cant hurt anyway, puts a coating of polish on it again. ill wait till the scratches show up again which'll probly be around october or so and ill polish it up again ready for summer time cruising! haha

got a question for all you dr30 guru's...the brake pads, are they the same as another model or something 'cause I'm having hells own job finding out anything about them. Someone said they thought (the fronts I'm assuming) are the same as the ones from a model of 720, anybody know any more than this?

thanks.

they are different to the other models, have you read the post from the start as theres heaps of info on brakes back there some where, i might go to my first post and put some kind of page index for the different things we've talked about!

i have to say go the endless greenstuff for the front and black stuff for the rear and you wont look back...

    • Well.... it's not just "de-oxygenating". If you do that you just have, most likely, ethane. So you still need to do a synthesis step to combine a number of ethanes/ethanols to make circa-8-chain hydrocarbons. And of course you don't want straight chain HCs, because n-octane actually has a negative octane rating (ie, it's worse even than the n-heptane which sets the zero on the octane scale!), so you have to do some tricky catalytic chemistry to synthesise branched HCs. That's all doable - but it doesn't come for free. And.... it starts with ethanol, which is an agricultural product, and there will almost certainly never be enough of that as a base stock to replace the liquid fuels that are in use. You really wouldn't want to be planning to be using any more ethanol for fuels than is currently already used (in E10, E85s, etc). And ideally you'd be looking to reduce such usage, as it is largely wasteful, particularly in the stupid-ole'US-of-A where the corn lobby has organised it so that it's actually primary production corn that is used to make a lot of the ethanol, not by-products and waste, like it is (mostly) elsewhere. So, what I said about needing free-ish energy probably still applies. True synth fuels would be made from H2 and CO2, in a near reversal of the combustion process. In fact, given that the H2 would be split from water first, it actually is a complete reversal of the combustion process. But...energy intensive. The human race burns something like 1 cubic MILE of crude oil, after it has been made into various fuels. Every year. That's a simply stupendous amount of energy. Just assume that the density is 900 kg/m3, and that the calorific value is 45 MJ/kg, then that is 165.9 x10^12 MJ of energy. Or more than 10^19 Joules. You get a maximum of 1 kJ/s per square meter solar radiation falling on the planet's surface, and so if you halve that for daylight, and halve it again for average weather (highly optimistic) and then take ~25% for the very best efficiency of solar panels, then you need about 85.7 billion square metres of solar panels to generate enough electricity to replace that liquid fuel energy consumption. Each panel is about 1m2. That's a rather large number of panels. We also burn about a cubic mile of coal. We also use hydroelectric power. We also use nuclear. We also use a number of other sources, both "renewable" and not. You can kind of ignore the renewable ones (except for hydro, because it will all end up getting subsumed into pumped hydro for storing other renewables, and so it won't be the standalone renewable that it originally was), so we end up needing a multiple of the ground area number that I just arrived at.
    • Corvette thread then? Don't say I didn't predict the future again. "I love the little MX5, I do, but I just want something a little easier to get in/out of, a little more cushy and some power would be nice - I miss the V8 Rumble... I found this clean red C5 for sale recently and..." I'll do you a great deal on the next step, which is one of those but you can fit people in it, too.
    • What about renewable diesel and/or gasoline? I see some projects spinning up like de-oxygenating ethanol to make drop-in compatible bio-gasoline especially in CA. I still think the future is EVs and we should've all gone full throttle on nuclear power after the 1973 oil crisis like France. Despite 15 years of work in CA to reduce the CO2 intensity of generation with renewables our electric grid is still far worse than even "low carbon" nuclear power. ICE is pretty cool when you aren't depending on the stupid thing to be practical and reliable and cheap as possible to get you to work every day. It's kind of like mechanical watches or vacuum tube amps.
    • I just rolled over "my" first 10k km in the MX5 Every time I go anywhere it always ends up in a adventure to look at houses and find some random country roads I've been on leave since early November but unfortunately need to go back to work on 19 January Luckily though I still have a fair chunk of leave left to burn until.... Not that I'm counting 😁
