Flying Performance Front/Dump Pipe and Catco Cat

Recommended Posts

Hi, I recently bought these items from Flying Performance (for my S15/200SX) and want to share my review with you. It goes something like this:

1 month ago: bought a Flying combo front/dump pipe for $230, Catco 3" High Flow Cat for $250 and heat wrap to suit.

Last Tuesday: had a dyno done at Tillbrooks (here in Adelaide btw) and I pulled 162rwkw

Last Thursday: had dump pipe and cat fitted, and dump pipe heat wrapped. Also changed over studs and nuts to stainless steel. (Cost $380 all up).

Yesterday: went back to Tillbrooks and had a dyno at 177rwkw.

So my car was identical other than the new items, similar weather and same dyno. The result, a net 15rwkw gain (assuming dyno accuracy). They did a number of runs each time and the result was consistent.

I have a 2001 S15 with basic mods comprising Trust Power Extreme II cat-back zorst, S&B Pod Intake, Custom heat shield and free boost upgrade. Other items include Exedy Organic Single Plate Clutch and I use Motul Excess 8100 5W40 oil with Uniglide FRC in the engine and diff (from Trent at Mercury Motorsport - works great thanks Trent!!!) and Light Shockproof Gear oil in my box.

Another guy had his S15 done at Tilbrooks with FMIC, zorst, intake and Blitz EBC and made 180rwkw (the week before on the same dyno), so I can't figure out why mine is pulling so much!! I am obviously very happy though!

Anyways I have a whole heap of toys going in next week so the number will increase dramtically, but I thought others might appreciate the info on the cheap dump pipe and cat at this power level. I highly recommend them!! I wish I could scan in the dyno sheet, as it shows not only greater power, but a healthy torque improvement and massive mid-range power gains! Note too that it is running at a bit under 11 afr which is quite rich.

different ambient temperatures on the dyno? different operator? different dyno settings? just a plethora of reasons why...

that and the fact that no two cars of the same model are built identical. your car was probably built on a friday...

No idea Hiep, I just know it is the 3" one. And no I didn't gut it .... that would be illegal :( Nah truly I didn't, I had them make me a 'racing cat' instead - 3" straight through pipe that bolts on as a replacement if I wanna shoot some flames at the drags ;)
