hi all just did the s13 coilover swap and testeded out to day found out i had a lot less lock, than i used to and the the setup doesnt even have ne lock stops not to mention how much it made the whheels toe out .. ne 1 had these isssues ??

if ne 1 has done this conversion is there ne longer tie rod ends ? or something u can do or have i just f#$d the whole suspension geometry by doin this

ne help apprecited

thanks in advance

Hi,

Did you want to tell us what you put the s13 coil overs into ?

A little information goes a long way, (well, I can't read your mind from this far away. :D )

Nigel

ummm you dont need longer tie rods, you just need to wind them out a bit further as in get a wheel alignment. As for steering lock I found no change really when I did mine maybe even a little more lock then usual. So I dont know whats wrong with yours.

Yup noted the same thing with mine after a wheel alignement it was fine, only thing i noted was a tad more bump steer from front end thats it really!

sweet thanks guys so i havent f@ d my D R, it still slid ok but yea i need agood w/a i did it by eye.... still felt like it lost a lil bit of lock, maybe my dodgy w/a has some thing to do with it ! but still curious is there a way to get more lock from this setup ?

My brother mentioned something about R31 tie rod ends for some more lock but i can't confirm weather it actually works or not though

yea i no i sound stupid id put the car togethr late saturday night, had no time to get a prpoer w/a ! booked in for w a this sat c how it goes..

r31 tie ends are differnt, they spin onto the end wereas the d r ends spin into the ends, wish that werent the case, swear ive seen a dr with longer tie ends some where just cant remember .. mabyb rack n pinoin conversion only way to resolve this...

cant change lock with tie rods. need 2 either shortern the steering knuckle or stuff around with the steering arms. rack n pinion is easier cos can space of the rack ends.

ive got s13 hubs/coils in my dr no dramas. never drove it with stock struts so unsure of lock changes?

arrr yes that makes sense, so a shorter knuckle id better ? i thought a longer knuckle would be the go? that was 1 of my concerns, the origanal knuckle is like an inch longer than s13..

From memory r30 ones dont quite fit properly either, but it's been a fair while since I played with that setup.

yep thats right i had to get the taper enlarged to suit, still doesnt seem right, the tie ends go into the knukle at a fair angle, thats why i thought longer tie ends would bring it back to a normal angle ..

ne ways got car w/a HEAPS better, surprisingly had it near 0 toe ! fluke ! camber was adiffernt story.. front end in the car seems spot on, just need to do something with the rear end, very loose ! ne 1 hear of eccentric bush s for rear a arms ? or ne way to get some adejustment ?

    • Well, this is probably where a wiring diagram and a multimeter come into play.
    • I can say to anyone thats doing this; having done a number of R clusters; just be careful if its an unknown cluster.  It takes a bit of force to pull up; but if it feels excessive then its probably stuck. I've had this and pulled the entire hair spring out; and I can tell you; its not easy getting the correct spring replacement with the correct inner diameter and winding. In my case someone had used some sort of adhesive to stick it to the spindle and it pulled the whole spindle out; which the force seperated the hairspring from the spindal and caused it to deform.  You may have to clean it (IPA); or in my case if i'd known i should have used some sort of solvent on it.  Also check out Cruizin Central on eBay. He does all sorts of dials; and you can email him with any custom designs you want. So if you want like certain logos etc...he'll send you a mock of what it will look like then you accept the order and he'll take care of the rest. Fantastic dials and he can do basically any design you want.
    • Have you confirmed its the actual axles? Also the wheel bearings that mount on the hubs to hold the axles wear out. I replaced mine as they got play in them. It sorted my play issue.
    • Ive converted a few clusters for the R33 with 320km/h dials. On the back there are some pads which can be bridged or unbridged (using solder or wick braid) to calibrate it. There is one bridge which is for MPH <> KPH; and there are combinations of bridges to offset it. There is probably a diagram  For example; this is my conversion for a 180km/h dial to a 320km/h dial (I put custom GT-R dials on it with the GTS25t layout) If you have J2 soldered (assuming the S clusters have a similar config to the R clusters); you may need to remove that solder
    • Back on topic 😉, these are some of the notable pages from the booklets that are supplied with each weekly parts update. I never knew the BNR32 test mule car had an S13 Silvia front end... *Edit: On closer inspection the test car still had the R32 body, but only the front end had Silvia panels etc.
