I have had a look through alot of threads and cant find anyone with this problem.

My Xenon lights have some marks in them that look like condensation, the stains or spots go along the entire headlight.

Has anyone come across this before, is there any easy way to open the headlight assembly and clean them ??

The headlights don't fog up, it just looks shitty.

Thanks

depends if its actual water/condensation or is it marks left over from past condensation? u cant open the headlight assembly they are pretty much glued together, some people have put them in the oven to get them apart a big job and not really worth it.

If thier is water/condensation in the lights then possbily take the globes out and leave them open so air and heat can get into them, best time to do it is on a hot day or something...either driving or letting the car rest either one should work.

BB GoDZiLa: Oh man I wish, when I bought my GTR I tried to find an LM every where, I had no luck- well actually i did find one but the guy wanted 90 grand............Ouch!!!!

When I saw that Pic I just had to have it !!

Jamezilla: A wire coathanger worked best for my lights, I did it last night, At first I didnt think it was making a difference but then I put a little degreaser on the rag the stains went away almost straight away. Try not to use a fluffy rag because it leaves fluff in side the headlight, but the good old vacum cleaner sorted that out I taped a hole series of plastic straws together and fed them inside the headlight then taped them to the pipe on the vacum cleaner and out came the small dust particles, it did get plugged a few times but it worked well.

canada: Wow - nice Macguver work :(

How did you get the hanger end inside the lamp fitting? Did you need to take them off the car?

Seems there are a few Xenon GTRs around now - we should have a mini-meet :D

I actually left them fitted, I just unscrewed the Xenon bulb, this left a large gap. It was a little akward to get into the far corner by the high beam and the the actual high beam bulb was to small to stick anything through.

Needless to say I removed my airbox, passenger side was easy. But on the drivers side I had to remove the window washer tank and the coolant run off tank- this may sound full on and even abit over board but it was hard to get the right angle with the coat hanger.

Mini meet sounds good where are you located ??

I'm in Epping/norther suburbs.

P.S. I cant imagine driving a niva after a rangie, do you ever take it off road??

Cool - sounds like a nice way to spend Saturday arvo. The dirty lamps have been bugging me for a while.

I'm in South Yarra.

One magazine once said of the Niva "Great off-road, best kept there" :(

Is loads of fun - just a smidge underpowered though. Very nimble - high angle of entry and exit.

Mine are factory fitted. Pretty sure Nissan replacements are about $2k each - not cheap.

You can get HID kits from these guys: http://www.hidlights.com.au - but I think it is a bulb conversion, not a gas-discharge unit as on the GTR.

Jamezilla:

Theres nothing better then a 4X4 covered in mud, have you ever had any electrical problems while river crossing or puddle bashing ??

My Rangie had 33 inch tyres and a 3 inch lift kit, but when ever i got close to water it would run rough, not to mention that most of the electricals would stop working as well.....good old british enginering ha ha.

BTW your niva looks tough, maybe a little small for me.

riggaP: not sure, I have a friend with a GTST he has the Xenon headlights but the car has a complete GTR kit fitted- and he

bought it that way, I will have a closer look tonight and post back here.
