okay, i replaced a rubber hose where my boost controllers reads boost it just above from the fuel rail liek the vacume for it? when i cut the line fuel came out but it stopted after spillign a coupel of mls im not to sure if its acually a fuel line, it connectes to the fuel rail via a diaframe looking thing, and htne it goes into the intake manifold whitch is teeded off to my boost controller, is silicone hose okay? the lien i took out was rubber and stiff and had some reinforeced material in it

also its a r33 gtst

Not sure which line you cut mate. If it's one of your fuel lines then would should probably get the correct hose, otherwise if it's the little hose that connects to your pressure regulator from the intake manifold then silicone is fine (though i'd be concerned it had fuel in it)

yea its off the pressure regulator, its when i had all the pipes disconected and a little bit of fuel came out form the regulator because i cut the pipe with a knife, there wasnt any fuel i nthe actual line, also i change the pipe goig nto the fuel regulator also which the all connects from, and it smelt like fuel inside the pipes is this okay, checked it all after a drive no fuel nothign wrong?

yeah wasn't sure if it eats silicone.. i know it eats most rubbers. (insert fellatio joke here :) )

but yeah.. get the proper hose, cause the one you've cut is a fuel line, not the manifold pressure to the fuel pressure regulator.

hose coming off the fuel reg (yellow circle) is the fuel return line, definately put some EFI hose on it.

i'm assuming your boost gauge wasn't hooked up to this line? not unless you wanted to read your fuel pressure, lol

Karl, a knife is the best way to get a rubber pipe off if you're replacing it. Try doing heater hoses on a Skyline without a knife, to be honest your better off with an engine crane.

You'd be better off replacing it with rubber fuel line just in case.

i'll stick to my hose removal pliers hey.. they seem to do a pretty good job at removing hoses.

however, i'm sure a first year apprentice knows more than me, i've only worked on cars for years. :O

im pretty sure ive uploaded the wrong pic, there are two lines comming to and from the fuel rail on from the underside of the car into the fuel filter, then into the fuel rail and the otther the regulator thingy, then there is a line from another regulator thingy near the fuel filter, and ive replaced it with silicone whitch goes to the regulator attached to the fuel rail and in the manual that is where your ment to tee it off to read boost, it reads vacume and bost perfectly fine, have had many mechanics look over the car,

the pic i uploded isnt a nissan fuel rail i dont think i just realised the fuel regulator is on top of the fuel rail at the end if it not on the very end, if i didnt tee it off it would go straight into the inlet manifold itsj ust a 3 or 4mm hose, but i guess i best get osme efi? hose?

if its just the hose from the side of the regulator, that runs to the front of the plenum (all of about 150mm long) then yes, that is the vacuum line.

ideally i wouldn't tee anything into it, especially as there is a nipple on the back of the 25 plenum that runs the stock boost gauge, but you shouldn't have any issues as long as you made sure all connections are tight (cable ties on the ends of the hose work well)

edit - the short hose about 100mm to the left of the oil cap, going from reg to plenum, correct?

I was talking to Karl, I'm sure your ways have suited you fine for all those years. Besides, what would a 2nd year know anyway? I just sweep floors.

if its that short little vacuum line for the regulator it shouldnt have fuel in it, if it does your regs probably fked. if the one on the bottom of the rail you have circled on the picture is T'd into the intake manifold then you'd be pumping huge amounts of fuel straight into the motor.

Tee your boost controller into the same line that goes to your wastegate actuator or stock boost gauge

    • Have you put an aftermarket oil pressure gauge on and verified your oil pressure?   Noise being on the block, on exhaust side, how high up the block does it seem to be? It could be the VCT system getting cranky, especially if it's mainly at idle, and when warm, as that'll be your lowest point for oil pressure. Could be showing that oil passages / VCT solenoid are blocking.
    • Well, hydraulic lifters will get noisy if they are dirty/fouled in some way, and exactly how that manifests will depend on exactly what schmutz is where. There is a procedure on here somewhere for dismantling and soaking/cleaning them. Replacing them with new is about 50% of the work and about 5% of the money!
    • Thanks for the reply @GTSBoy this is is a hydraulic lifter engine. Yea right i did not realise the lifters were supposed to be compressible while installed. I could push them down but i had to lean almost my while body weight on them.  I have never heard of a lifter/ lifters ticking only at hot idle and getting worse the hotter it gets. I have owned a few jdm cars with noisy lifters. This noise is slightly more subtle, it is more of a sharp gentle metalic tic than the solid and more loud tapping I've heard on lifters. I have used a metal rod, alloy tube, hose and stethoscope and could not find the source of the tick. But it appears to be loudest on the actual engine block behind the exhaust cam gear and next to the oil filter. I had mate (40 year old mechanic) go over it with me and he couldn't find it either..  Could it be a cam seal issue of some sort?  Cheers  
    • This seems problematic and unlikely at the same time. Vanilla RB2Xs have hydraulic lifters. They do have "zero" clearance, but only when running with oil pressure inside them. When not running, you should be able to compress them and obtain heaps of clearance. RB26s and Neos have solid lifters. They should have ~0.3mm and ~0.5mm on the inlet and exhaust respectively. If they have zero clearance then bad things are happening. With nothing else being wrong, it would mean that the valves would be held slightly (ever so slightly) open when they are supposed to be closed and it should have all sorts of problems when running, caused by leakage in/out through the valves. Or, zero clearance can indicate severe valve seat recession. None of it is good. Have you used a piece of hose as a stethoscope to try to localise the noise?
