Hey everyone,

About 14 months ago I bought an R32 GTR, the car I have always wanted, and had every intention of meeting some other skyline owners on the forums.

Unfortunately, the cheap purchase price was offset by a blown head gasket and so a full rebuild was underway.

Anyhow, after heaps of work and heaps of cash I finally have it back and driving so I am keen to meet a few of you guys.

Look forward to catching up with everyone at some stage!

Actually, (geez I'm slow today) is this the car I've seen heaps of times at Autotech??

Yep! Thats where its been! I saw your engine before it went in btw. What a monster! Awesome torque curve.

She's looking beautiful Pete, are you going to try her out at the Hillclimb sometime?

Yes. I was going to chat to you about that actually Michelle. I was going to join the SDMA this year and get my CAMS license sorted out.

Ill have to come along and say g'day the next one.

Nice clutch you got in there! Haha, was Ed that talked me into getting mine based on what's in yours

They are a pretty awesome clutch. I rember chatting to ed about where I got mine from. They were cheap as before the A$ crashed.

Hah so I hear! I was still pretty lucky, picked mine up almost brand new for $1300 from a wrecker.

That's a damn good price! From memory they are well over 2 grand now. I'm still getting used to the twin plate rattle though.

I'm never going to get used to the rattle!!!

Haha but love the jerking when the revs are too low. I swear sometimes I look like a fair tard cause no one understands what it's like to drive!!

All in all I'm really happy with it though! Not as scary as I thought it was going to be.

 Awesome

The next one is on the 8th March and I'll be at Mt Panorama, but you would be made welcome, even without me there. Let me know if you are interested in the 8th and I will get you in touch with some super friendly people to help with membership and licence. You can get your CAMS L2S licence on the day of your first event.

If you would rather wait, I'm back there again on the 5th April. I think you will find anyone who joins SDMA in the next few months will get membership until end June 2010. But check with them first.

Let me know if you need help with preparation for the event i.e. fire ext, helmet etc.

Think I saw this last week when it was actually on the dyno at autotech, pulled around 320rwkw?

Yeah, that's the one.

Once Ed played with the timing a bit we pulled 340kw atw @ 22psi.

Its starting to get pretty nuts.

    • Definitely didn't put a N/A cluster in instead? The speed sensor (location) is different in both cars.... I think. This will obviously stuff things up.
    • Nah not the throwout bearing, it's something internal. I already replaced the throwout bearing. Mechanic misdiagnosed my car and thought it was a spigot bearing, went to another bloke who said it was an input shaft bearing. (I replaced everything when I pulled out the gearbox but didn't open up the gearbox.   In this video at timestamp 6:05 : Mine has the same sound  min
    • It is definitely to space it out and away for clearance during compression, and possibly for spring clearance to upper arm. That latter would only be true for springs that are same-ish diameter to stockers, and so that probably doesn't apply to Teins or most other coilovers.
    • Yeah, a mechanic who knows these cars told me even if I get a brand new gearbox the noise will return but will be less noticeable. I've heard someone also they this noise came back after 3,000km on a new or reconditioned gearbox. It is pretty f**king annoying though just hearing groaning most of the time lol. I wonder if an aftermarket input shaft bearing would fix the problem or how they are built.
    • All RB gearbags, especially the big turbo box, have rollover noise. Mine certainly does. Always has. Sometimes is worse than others - no particular idea why, although it is probably temperature related. I have smurf jizz in mine and have had to have it in there from the first day the box went into teh car. It simply would not select gears with the engine on, on day one, with normal oil in there. And so, the blue stuff has probably ruined almost everything synchro related in the box. But it has taken 12 or 13 years to get to the point where I simply must replace the box. It has become increasingly baulky of late, which might be symptomatic of the way I've been driving it, as much as anything. I shall have to make some corrections when teh new box goes in. Input shaft bearing noise will decrease with clutch pedal pressed because the drive is removed. But yes, more often than not noises that work like that are associated with the throwout. It won't matter either way, new box will mean this one can be relegated to the parts pile.
