Need some guidance on acquiring more power from the V35 when I purchase it later on in the year :D I have run through many threads about this but need some extra info.

Wanting to make sure I have the MOD money ready to go.

I previously owned a 97 R33 and just know that after a while will need to bump the power of the V35.

The normal zust and maybe ECU flash will happen, but was really after turboing this beauty.

The APS TT kit would be great but can’t really afford to pay 15K. Is there a single turbo option or just source all the parts and get my trusted mechanic to install. Thinking of spending roughly $6,000 to $7,000 or am I dreaming and just appreciate the car for what it is.

HKS makes a single turbo option that comes with a cat. APS' Single Turbo is not available in Australia, and doesn't come with a cat. I think the other US single turbo kits are similarly cat-free.

I've driven a HKS ST 350Z, and it was quite tasty. Pulled 235rwkW at 3-4psi and 266rwkW at 7-8psi through a GT3037. Unlike the twins, it ramps up more aggressively and so feels more fun.

It'll make around 215-220kW in stock trim. Any more than that and you'll need to bring injectors, as it retains the stock items.

It'll cost you around $8K (probably more now that the Aussie dollar has tanked) for the kit. Install-wise you could try it yourself, but the FM engine bay doesn't have much room.

Bang for buck, your best option is a centrifugal supercharger. Most of them just sit in the factory airbox location, so require a minimum of under-bonnet modifications to make it fit. You might need to modify / remove your engine cover to clear the belts, but the guy who had the ST used to have a HKS supercharger setup and did it in his garage.

It makes about the same power as the HKS ST, as it comes with bigger injectors. Dialling up more power after you do exhaust bolt-ons will involve changing pulleys, which isn't as flexible as using a boost controller on a turbo.

The kit also costs the same if I remember correctly. I'm not sure if its still available, as I'd heard that Rotrex (the guys who designed the supercharger) were suing HKS over IP violations or something.

The intercooler is only a half width front mount for both kits. Given the relative lack of airflow on a V35, that's not a bad thing as it means you can get air onto the radiator. It also means you could fit an oil cooler on the other side.

CAPA offers a Vortech kit for the car, though, if you want to get something a bit more local.

Since you're planning money for mods, support mods should also be considered.

You should be able to get away with the stock clutch at 230rwkW, but I'd budget an upgrade anyway. The 280rwkW TTs normally make the stock clutches slip under hard use, and burn them up within 6 months.

An oil cooler would also be suggested.

If your car doesn't have a VLSD, I'd look into some kind of LSD as well. I don't mind the stock viscous - it doesn't really single peel that badly and its very streetable. I've had situations leaving driveways where one wheel sits in the air - it'll free-spin for a second or two before the diff hardens up and sends some drive to the other wheel.

Anyone ever hooked up nos to their V35/350z???

Compared to the cost of going to a TT kit or a SC kit why not just hook up a wet system?

Anyone know what the safe limits are with std internals? surley a 50 shot system wont break anything?

Just found this might be an interestin option

mayb a cheaper option of power gain for meantime.. and wait till the dollar rate is better, then we get the tt setup..

but when get done by cops, how do u prove you wasnt using it on the street, and only on track? :(

well fortunatly V35s dont seem to even register with cops @ the moment, as long as you havent painted it some crazy colour and dumped it on its tits with 22" spinners or something.

As for showing the cops its not hooked up, just make sure youv used up the bottle before they pull u over lol... officer theres no gas in the bottel

I believe there have been a few people in Aus, but I don't know them myself. Its very popular in the US.

I don't believe in nitrous as a powertrain mod for street cars. If I do something that makes more power, I want it to work all the time rather than with a specific limit. Especially when, unlike petrol, you can't refill that easily.

Just get a stealth purge instead of some showy skirt-lifting FnF job.

If you do get pulled over by the cops and its not looking good, just purge the entire tank. Hopefully inhaling it will make the cop more jovial, and less likely to bust you as a result.

As for a car making max power all the time after owning a very quick 180sx in the past, I personaly just dont see the point. I had 300+rwkw in that car but using that power all the time was just stupid unless it was @ the track, or if Iwas feeling lucky with the cops.

For me the V35 is a nice daily driver with more than enough power stock for driving around town @ 60kph. But every now and again its nice to put ur foot down coming onto that hwy onramp to get up to 110kph or to go to the drags and do that 1/4 mile run. But thats only 2% of the time your driving the car

getting the bottel filled these days isint that much of a problem unless you plan on using the NOS all day every day. Heck even up here in Townsville there are a couple of places that do refills so I guess you lucky people in metro areas will have even more choices

just my 2 cents

LOL @ your idea of purging the entire tank to make the cops happy  might not be that safe up here in FNQ cus all the "locals" might get a wiff and follow my car around everywhere

I wouldn't disagree with that. Street-wise, I think the car is good enough.

I circuit drive my car a lot, though, so my requirements may be different. I don't think any reasonably-sized N2O tank will cover me for a 15 min session, let alone an entire day.

It could be worse. You could have a fuel tank leak.

If your doing track days a lot then yeah I can see what you mean

That’s an excellent reply thank you very much very useful info, I have been looking on the net and if I do decide to go with the single turbo option most defiantly be purchasing from the US. Don’t mind the super charger but there’s nothing quite like the pull / rush of power from a turbo.

I have a well trusted mechanic so if I can just get my hands on something when the dollar is better will be fantastic. :(

On a few sites on the net I found a single APS turbo Kit from $6200 AU to $7,700 which include:

Turbocharger

• 3.5" Exhaust Components to fit to stock exhaust

• Bar & Plate Front Mount Intercooler

• Custom mapped plug-in-play engine management

• High capacity oil pan with oil return ports

• High Output injectors with upgraded fuel supply, no cutting and soldering

• Air Intake - high flow cold air system

• High Volume Twin Vent Blow Off Valve
