Whats a nice area to live in up there thats near the beach?

nah just joking, although there is a rock wall to stop the crocs inviting themselves into the lagoon in town...

just north of Cairns about 10 minutes out of town there are some nice open sandy beachs, and just another 40 minutes north is port douglas which is rather beautiful also...

i have to say tho their beachs are not like the gold coast or sunshine coast... their short and narrow and have no waves (due to a little coral thing called the great barrier reef)

hardly compairs to the bitchs (cough) i mean beachs we have down here...

yes there can be crocs in the water... its FNQ...

just remember to wear a chain suit that weighs like 40kg or more when swiming and you'll be right from the sharks anyway...

"Looks Stunned" Palm cove is a nice beach no surf and heaps of chick with c sections and on top of that super expensive!!! summary = over prices and over rated, kewarra beach and clifton seem to be the 2 best ones also holloways isn't half bad... mate lives at kewarra really close to the beach the salt eats everything away really badly but thats the price you pay for living that close to the ocean. Stear clear of machans its not to bad but it used to be the old dump site and there is some old junk poping up every now and then.

P.S. WTF Crocs yeah maybe in the barron river but not at the beaches i think there was like 3 spottings at machans and that only because its next to the mouth of the barron!!

I used to live in Caravonica and i loved it there, Cairns is 15min wide...as in your only even 15mins from anywhere by road. Smithfield is nice aswell barley 5 mins to Palm cove and the other beaches. right near the Barron river rapids and just above the flood plain of the Barron.

living closer to the western mts is better, less salt effect on everything you own, amazing views to wake up too. pick somewhere because its quiet or senic not because its close to something distance is no issue in Cairns

I live in Brisbane most of the week Dan

But travel with work all over this beautiful country of ours...

I can second Clifton, stayed there for a week and it was pretty good...

kewarra isn't to bad palm cove is really more of a tourist place now the whole front is full of restaurants and over priced fish and chips but then again hold the word beach very lightly not sure where you live dan but we have no surf its pretty much good fishing is the up side of that.

Night life is not to bad nothing compared to brissy "town" wise but you get to know people.

P.S. are you sure you want to live out at the beaches do you want to live live water front out your back door or be able to walk to the beach?

There are a few places you need to watch out for if your thinking of moving: Manaunda, woree, lower parts of edge hill, lake placid close to the high way (thats for car protection) there a higher ratio of minorities around these areas

I am at Holloways and it's a nice place to live....

But basically any of the northern beaches are nice...

Oh.... And nightlife is not like a big city... Which both has it's postives and negatives really.... Plenty of back-packers though

I loved the people in Cairns, I hate city people and the "me verse you" attitude of city people. I couldn't go out in Brissy after living in Cairns the nightlife...or all week life is awesome it shits all over going out in Brissy.

if your into pills and that bullshit there is heaps of that up there, if your into pubs there is some awesome pubs up there clubs are good and the constant flow of backpackers are awesome

It would be nice to live as close as possible to the beach... always been a plan of mine to live like that.

As a general rule stay away from suburbs that start with M. Most of the northern suburbs are nice but I have never lived out that way. I lived mainly on the hillside of Cairns (Kanimbla/City View).

The Nightlife sort of has everything, Clubs frequented by mainly locals, nice pubs for dinner and drinks, pubs/clubs mainly frequented by tourists. Then there are all the restaurants and cocktail type bars, so it sort of covers everyone and you can generally plan a good night out.

Then there are the other things to do, like a drive up the Tablelands (some nice roads and locations, eg Lake Tinaroo). Then there is north to Port Douglas (another nice road) and the Daintree (some real beautiful spots up there). There are also lots of nice fresh water swimming holes south of cairns.

Skylines community is alright where i live there is 3 within 2 blocks, both really nice people i have seen a few around but I'm sure it not as large as somewhere such as brissy, but only a few skylines means you know pretty much everyone who drives them.

As for the salt yes my mate sam owns a commodore and he lives at machans and his seals get eaten away fairly quick, also it does damage the house in some ways such as metal rusting quicker and what not.

Just need to take it all into consideration, in saying that tho i can see what you mean waking up and having the sea right out your back door mmm, it totally up to you weather its worth it of not!

The skyline community isn't really large but most people know each other.

JDFNQ is the vice president of the SAUQLD club (President of the Cairns chapter), I am one of the Event Executives for the Cairns Region.

We organise events throughout the year, for example, motorkhanas, cruises (generally between 15-30 skylines), dinners and an overnight cruise (camping).

There are also other events like drifting which isn't organised by us, but most of us to attend and compete.
