20psi yeah? did you guys have a chat about boost level on stock internals?

yeah my limit is still 20 for reliability sake but on a bigger turbo like this it is still ultra efficient so the head room is higher than say a high flow at the same boost. (the point of diminishing return).

I would be happy on E85 to push probably another 20-30rwkw out of hamish's car for dyno queen status but we really wanted a direct comparo @ the same boost.

Oh and prepare your self for an sms daniel :D i hear you want to play dyno's on friday.

hahahah, me????? of course not... :D

Stao will be happy, he's always telling me to run 30psi :)

:)

haha 30psi rolls off stao's tongue too easy :) if only it was soo easy.

aahh... interesting

seems like run of the mill oils car manu's don't have issues with.. but it seems the high end oils aren't necessarily suited.... interesting

i should probably do an UOA on the Amsoil when i change it next

what boost control are you running?

i would have expected boost to hold up better with E85 due to the increased combustion gas due to extra fuel?

did you find that the engine runs a lot cooler? EGTs will be cooler

its good to see some comparision maps on a dyno that can't wheel slip..

the tests we have done at work with a GTRS on a stock SR20de+t with E85 found that even with LINK G4 ecu and boost control (i think its called vipec over there) we couldn't stop boost creaping up from 14-16psi from approx 5700rpm although we think the internal gate was the limiting factor with that turbo.

now hes running a GT2876R and a 38mm wastegate with no issues.

I'm hoping that early next year i can get my car tuned at my workshop on E85 once my fuel system is up to scratch. 324kw on 98 pump gas on 19psi on a stock rb25 on a dynapack dyno would be interesting to see what gains there is on my setup.

best part is i can have a simple switch that can switch my fuel, inginition, boost tables to suit the E85

worst part is theres no E85 on the pump in NZ. and its approx $2.5 per ltr here. 98s expencive enough at $1.82atm

sinthetic oils are what iv been told to run. 5w30 for street cars and 0w30 for race cars if its too thick the oil pressure is to high even when the car is up to operation tempature.. we have been using elf oil in the ones we have done..

im running a blitz dsbc spec s (the single solenoid one) and i'm guessing that's where the boost is going

not concerned at al tho... having 2psi less @ 7000rpm is pribably a good thing :D

would be nice to be able to flick a switch.... i think the only way i could do thoat with the pfc is to physically have 2 :(

  • 2 weeks later...

good news guys!

as halle informed me, e85 is now available at the pump for 109c @ fueltown southland!

i have contacted the store and spoken to the manager, and the fuel is supplied by powerplus. the fuel is also a 91/ethanol blend like united's

http://www.powerplusfuel.com.au/

after speaking to geoff, he informed me that getting the fuel from csr was impossible as the big fuel companies have signed contracts for the next 6 months preventing anyone else purchasing e85, however they are not using it themselves... and the contracts are probably going to get renewed.

the fuel, is selling at a rate of only 300l per week, so c'mon guys, lets go help 'em out!

i'll be filling up and testing later this week, and will post results when done.

hmm not too far, might swap cats over to E85. Was going to mix up my own 98 and methanol but i may try the pump gear first. We made just shy of 430 on 98 so it should be a good laugh on e85 or a jungle juice.

Oi hamish when you get a min drop past and we will look at the fuel economy.

are you ready for the E85 on-slaught Trent?! :D all the east-siders will be wanting tunes now.

Guess who lives 5mins from Fueltown Southland :P:blink::)

I feel this must be represented in picture form, to illustrate the awesomeness of what has just occurred...

Point A = new E85 source

Point B = essentially where i live

Point C = old E85 source

route-1.jpg

It's karma i reckon :D

My E85 trips have been cut by a whopping 90%! It's almost exactly 1/10th of the distance to get E85 now!

    • Purchased a NC MX5 a while ago Basic suspension mods done, BC coils and Whiteline sway bars  New DBA calipers, discs and pads Added some 17 x 8 Konig Decagrams with 215/45 17 PS5's Added some typical NA bolt on's, i.e. full exhaust and intake  Added 0.5ltrs with a MZR2.5 swap, nice bump in torques  Found a detachable hard top which is locked in for a colour match with my local paint shop in Feb 25, this also includes some PDR as it has received a few love taps from parking in the local shops when in the hands of my Minister for War and Finances, me, I park nowhere near other cars and typically park on the street The little thing is awesome, I drive it everywhere, it handles like a dream whether I'm up it or just cruising  But now,  because I'm a idiot, I keep looking at turbo kits....... did I mention I'm a idiot Why is dose so appealing  All of the NA 2.5 glory, well.......until sometime in 2025 anyway....🤪
    • I would not be surprised if you are the only person on earth that has the interest/desire to do that lol.  The Haltech base map is a really good starting point, the car will fire easily and drive very well, even on mild boost levels. To me, following your advice sounds like some sort of ancient Chinese water torcher lol (this is not an insult Josh, never change <3)
    • Those car show concepts from the 2000's and 2010's like the Floria and IDx were brilliant and should've gone ahead, at least one of them. But neither Honda nor Nissan are thinking about affordable performance any more, which is truly sad.  Even if Toyota's liquid hydrogen ICE development reaches the point where it's commercially viable and the infrastructure to support it, Honda/Nissan would have to wait until Toyota allow fee access to their patents to offer it with any smaller performance models they released to take advantage of it.
    • A sporty manual RWD coupe with a IL4 Honda engine would only be a good thing I assume we won't see anything released for a few years though, unless informal talks and designs have been going on for a few years,  and due to the current, and future, emmisions and safety requirements, I assume anything "sporty" they would do would be at least some hybrid thingie And hopefully anything they are thinking of has nice lines, without lots of plastic and fake bits hanging off it like that horrendous FK8 that looked like it was designed by a 13 year old The other issue of course in the current market is cost, currently the type R is around $70k, a twin is around $50k Meh, I'm old and grumpy and would rather buy a older model car and waste my coin on that than buying anything currently available new
