an up side to a 30 would be because of the lower revs, (all us normal peeps) you wouldnt have to spend a heap on the head for it to hold together a 9k+

i mean if its a whole 1000rpm earler in lag.. it a win win in my opinion for the rb30. but if its not 1000rpm better in responce......

also... if we could find a rb30 with 400kw and a rb26 with 400kw and compare the dyno graphs that would answer alot of questions.

excluding the freak 450rwkw+ monsters out there.. just an honest as posible comparison... i mean if "most" rb30's stop making power after 6k and flatten out.. i could live with abit more lag and have it keep making power all the way to 9k.

Guys, as soon as the ECU is fixed, ill turn up the boost and post a graph. Paul can then overlay that on his if he likes, not for highest power output, but for "usable power" as thats the point of this thread :P

Please dont forget mines not a full on drag ported head and has far less appropriate cams for internet arguments. With that said, pauls graph is at 25psi, so ill tune it to the same for comparison sake

Im not trying to compete with paul, but trying to show the 26 vs the 30 with so many other variables being similar

Sure?

EBC said 18psi before the microguess came out today (maybe i got the BAR to PSI conversion wrong? You generally are good at remembering that sort of stuff though) :P It was changed during the road test

Either way, im dying to get the autronic fixed and back in the car and get it over 20psi

One thing you guys considering doing the RB30 conversion will have to remember, is that good blocks are getting harder to find. There's a heap of stuffed ones out there, but good ones arent that easy to find. Cranks are worse again

was 20psi :D

C'mon Steve-o don't be soft...lets compete!

lol at 20psi 450KW was a walk in the park for my 26 on BP98...at ALL 4. Not a paltry 370...and that graph shows 2500-3000 rpm of peak torque...congrats. My graph is almost double that!

go to the RB29 thread to see me vs Ben's mega dollar mega engineered torque master.

yes he had more power under 2500rpm...but who drives there?... my midrange was far superior...and that was the day after my car was run-in with an 11.5 tune just nudging 22psi with minimal timing.

Care to go up against my 500KW graph Steve-o...it has actual tune and only 25psi...the power delivery and torque shits all over my 22psi run-in effort. Dont go on saying ive got a better head and cam selection etc...thats my good fortune...you chose what you put in your engine...i chose what i put in mine.

this is going to be good...lots of fun with a bit of niggle.

and for those standing on the outside looking in Steve-o and i are actually friends. (for now :P )

What is peak torque on that run??

600Nm?? Thats only 440 odd ft pound if im not mistaken??

Mine takes 1.5bar to make 452Kw.

Still a 2.6 with GTRS and everything else.

From memory it just cracks a tonne (Nm) at roughly 1.2bar and tad over 1300 with 1.5bar

I do like the 3L but I have to retain the original block/ capacity so 2.6 is my only option.

lol. yes the cam and headwork really are where it all takes place.. isnt that so paul :P

i just built a monster Tomei 2.8 with a mega buck head on it...60hrs+ in labour on the head alone! Its one of our Stage 3+ race heads...pure automotive pornography.

The heads are what makes the difference and i believe we have got them spot on for the 26...thats why ive never really entertained the RB30 stuff...ive never really needed to. Im going to build one though...they seem to send people who have them crazy! Just look at Stephen Hugh-Smith and Robbie Ward...complete nutters!

im a bit dirty having to hand the 2.8 engine over as its better than mine. Its going in a GTS-t owned by a fella in his early 20's! Hope he knows someone in the tyre and rear driveshaft industry...he's going to need it.

Roy you need to get in 2rismo's ear...he spent mega dollars on a rebuild only to go slower than his original unopened engine..lol

Oh here we go...

Stock GTRS's? :D

Big power figures are nice, but torque is what im chasing. Maybe another 70/80 kw atw but as much torque as possible. With that said im trying to find out what cams would be best for the next motor (which is coming together, starting at bottom end first though).

I promise the next motor in the GTR will be a suprise to a lot of people after my "RB30 for life" antics. But thats for another thread once its finished and run in, and it'll stay quiet until then.

At the end of the day this is a comparison thread, so why dont you make it 100% fair and take your head off, put it on my RB30'd GTR and dyno that combo? :D

Short of that, we'll just have to see whats wrong with the SM4 and be patient until its all humming along. Know anyone who can fix it and not charge an arm and leg? Would love to know how the thing broke...

Correct.

I now know the common element between your engines, and have "seen the light" so to speak.

oh no@!!!

yes paul. you and i need to sit down and come up with a shopping list for me and a to do list with my nice new flex shaft grinder :D

not here but. next time i see you. :D

Compak Attak is in a few weeks come have a chat then...Mark Jacobsen will be coming down to prep the car so he will be with me...you can pick whats left of our scrambled brains. :P

So now its not the bottom end that makes the engine its the head. I agree with that one.

Build your own head...your not getting mine. Actually i will build you one if you like...ok...no problem.

Send the SM4 back to Ray Hall...he will fix it for you for free. Ill organise it for you...ok...no problem.

Knowing the basis of the trick is one thing...but do you know to perform it?

    • Well, no. It's an 023, which is pretty similar to an 040. Although it is hard to tell from the specs, as given.
    • Hmm. Maybe the (other thing I forgot about!) Haltech removes at least some, if not all, of the problem I described. I guess there is still the possibility of getting it wrong if the AC is set up/wired up for the Haltech as if it was in an R34 (simply because it's on a Neo), and that's playing foul with the R32 AC computer.
    • Glad it eventually came out Duncan!   I believe that might be 040. 044 is the inline pump, so has screw fittings in and out. 040 is more just drop it in fuel and the bottom is "open" (mesh) from my memory
    • well mate, while I hear your pain, turns out I don't feel it this time! Must have been a bastard of a job crammed into the boot The tank was very empty (probably pumped out, not dropped and drained because there were some fumes still) and in very good condition internally. I'm sure he never ran e85 in it I don't know what the hell Nissan's fuel tank engineers were thinking about their clipping system, this hanger was really hard to get moving but came out in the end All looks very good (as I'm starting to hopefully expect) and Matty was right it is an 023 (044) bosch which should be plenty for the injectors and turbo
