:glare: Rumour or Fact?

The M7 already has Point to Point Speed Devices being tested atm.

So as your E-Tag enters the M7, a photo is taken of your vehicle. Another is taken at exit. And if your average speed is deemed to be over 102Km/Hr, you get a speeding ticket.

The same system is being installed & ready for testing on the M5.

The Pacific Hwy is earmarked for the same.

Wow this sucks as I too have heard this rumour. Apparently its quite common in a lot of the European countries. So i guess if you have been dialling up some big numbers on the speedo, pull over and relax for 5. Anything about the M4 ? As there are these rather odd looking boxes with cameras in them if you are heading westbound just before prospect Hwy exit. I dont know what they are. they seem to have a red glow inside them at nighttime

gee terry......you always seem to come up with things to SCARE us!!!!

Highly possible and is somthing i have been saying since it first opened, they know when you get on when you get off

how far you've gone and how long it took, but not in force yet as under NSW law they have to let you know of possible

speeding fines. I believe those cameras are the same as the one's on GWH at M7 under pass and are for noise polution

but don't quote me on that.

it was supposed to happen on the M4 3 years ago. It never did. That's why the extra cameras were installed.

And in NSW any speed camera (even the mobile ones) must have a warning sign. It's the same with the heavy vehicle ones on the freeways. They have to be sign posted.

Until you see the signs go up there's nothing there.

terry, you're one paranoid unit...

Now Now Behave - you must never kill the messenger hehe

I'm only quoting Ms Tammy Umasaran from Dept of Transport.

And then I've consulted my brains trust ie. YOU GUYS!!

And finally,

I might be paranoid; BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN THAT THERE'S NO-ONE FOLLOWING ME!!

they can also book you for making an illegal u-turn..as they know what entry you go on at and when you make a u-turn at one of the emergency vehicles only spots to double back and leave at the next exit..they pin you!

I got this email also:

New Legislation M5 & M7 Re Speeding Fines

M5 and the M7 are now equipped with Point to Point Speed Devices. On

entering the M7 the etag beeps and a camera takes a photo

of

your car recording the exact time. On exiting the etag system beeps

again another camera at that point takes a photo of the car and the

time. Then the computer calculates the time it has taken you to travel

between the two points and calculates your speed. If you completed the

clocked journey too fast you are issued with a speeding ticket.

At the present the speed limit is 100K.P.H. with a tolerance of

102 maximum. Over that and you are issued with a fine automatically.

for a week and get a weeks' tickets BOTH WAYS. Of course your license

will also be recalled for 3 months. Now with the new legislation,

fighting a Speed Camera fine is almost impossible You must prove the

device is faulty and if you are not a technician working on them, you

have no chance of beating the fine.

The Pacific Highway has a set and these are recognized by large steel

frames over the lanes with a speed camera and some distance up

the road is another large metal frame with a speed camera.

These new point to point systems are being put onto any expressway and

highway where vehicles are not able to exit between those points.

NOTE: School zone cameras are not speed tolerant. Anything over, even 41, is a fine.

    • To be fair passengers who aren't silly and have been in proper fast cars have often been pretty impressed once you hit 4th gear
    • I suppose that's true. Barring almost any situation, I'll never sell so what the market does is kind of irrelevant to me. It's possible I'd make most of my money back. That spreadsheet I mentioned? Maybe I could make back more than what the car's total costs thus far are, but the parts and all that is possibly a different story... Thanks for reading. It was certainly a good moment and just makes the ties to the car that much stronger. It's exciting that the option will be there to bring it over, however I have some plans with a shop that may end up keeping the car there longer, not sure. Coupled with the fact I want to move there and haven't solidified any path yet. So in a way, it feels like I'm in a limbo state that is uncertain; time will tell.
    • No worries, everything worked out in the end. I just wanted to make the point that it doesn't matter where it comes from (I.E Australia), it can be broken or improperly built. I would still purchase from these companies in the future. B2R - Not certain how that finished, this was on a car I wired a few things and street tuned. I know the owner ended up shipping the motor back to Australia for investigation. Hopefully some of it is covered under warranty.  Turbosmart - I always pressure test everything that goes on my car. It's a habit from my career in oil and gas. I run two 40mm's and both had major leaks from the actuator to exhaust portion through the shaft. I returned both, they shipped me back two and one was leaking and the other had a 38mm top (40mm gate with 38mm actuator cap, no idea how that happens). Eventually after a lot of back and forth I found myself with two non-leaking gates. I believe this happens a lot more then people would like to believe but you would never know if you don't pressure test them prior to installation. Crank Motorsport - Issued a full refund and let me keep the seat rails. I turned them into scrap metal for other projects. GKTech - Shipped me out a replacement and asked that I modify it as per my idea and that they would do the same for a future revision. ATP - Can just needed a large shim to bolt up properly.  Haltech - They started an actual proper Beta channel for firmware's a few months back and stopped using the general public for testing. I'm now much happier.  Speedtek - f**k Speedtek. I would love to watch them burn.
    • I've got a Turbosmart wastegate, ATP catch can, many GK Tech parts and Haltech everything. Everything's been perfect, sorry to hear your experience wasn't the same
