hi guys, proxies are banned at work and i can't access the skylinesaustralia website, i get this error in firefox

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression

and in IE, i get the page cannot be displayed. ive used a proxy b4 to access sau and it worked fine but i got caught using it and been warned about it lol.

i can access other forums fine (eg: nissansilvia.com)

any recommendations without using proxies.

Cheers

IT guys told me that your server & work proxy blocks the way sau is coded or something.

only way i can access it is to go to google.com > skylinesaustralia forums > click on cached

and view from there but you dont get far & you can't post.

I have this same error after upgrading my proxy from squid 2.7 to 3.0. The squid devs reackon the webserver is misconfigured;

They said to me;

"Please notify the webmaster of that site about the issue a well. It is

caused by a HTTP/1.1 misconfiguration at their end that 3.0 does not

cope with well.

http://squidproxy.wordpress.com/2008/04/29...decoding/"

Basically Squid 3.0 talks to webservers as an HTTP/1.0 client, but the webserver sends chunked encoding which is a feature of HTTP/1.1...BUT i couldnt see any options for tweaking chunked encoding in httpd.conf... so i dont see how it can be configured around in apache - i think it more just the way apache works. I'll just use the squid workaround, but i'd say dori34 is probably stuffed, unless PranKeh can figure out the config.

I wonder if it has anything to do with gzip compression... Those who are having problems, are you able to ping the site? What if you use the PDA skin? http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Is...1&skinid=21

I've run into this problem before at sites with proxy servers and believe it is the way that it handles the code from the website. It seems to have fixed itself with an update that has been pushed out to the firewall appliance we use. To get around it I was using GPass at one stage but that seems to be broken (well it stopped working for me) and then I started using a site called http://www.boomproxy.com This got me around the problem of at least being able view the site and browse. Some of the scripting doesn't seem to work through it though, but good enough to browse, read and reply to topics.

I'll try to find out what was updated on the proxy server side of things to try to work out why this is happening with the website.

OK I've spoken to the company that we deal with for our internet appliances (firewall, proxy etc) that we use.

I asked him about the error that I used to experience and why it now works for me. This is his response:

The website will not be responding correctly to HTTP 1.0 requests, it will be returning some

broken HTTP 1.1 responses. The proxy server in 26.4.7 now sees these broken responses

and removes them. You can also change your browser to use HTTP 1.0, which will mean that

it ignores the broken 1.1 responses altogether, making it work.

So for people who have this problem, it looks like it is how your proxy server deals with the broken HTTP 1.1 requests.

Sometimes it might not be the proxy server at your work end, some ISPs also use a transparent proxy (TPG is one that I know of that does)

I got a couple of pages to load, but the third i tried failed. Its not a compression problem despite what the message says.

Deano,

Are you able to get a list of the broken responses they found?

Christian

Hi Christian,

Ok this is from the proxy server log of a site that I have that still has the problem accessing the website

I'm not a website guru so I hope this helps. This is just trying to get to http://www.skylinesaustralia.com from a machine behind the proxy. IP address is a private internal one so it doesn't matter that you can see it.
