Hi guys,

just have 2 concerns about my car that i just purchased.

It has project mu type HC plus pads working in conjunction with the factory brembos and rotors.

From this, i get a very very annoying loud screech when braking .. its just embarassing ...

They are carbon metal (Asbestos free) construction and designed for sports and street driving .... is there any reason as to why the heck they screech so badly? Is it because the pads are too harsh?

Does screeching occur with aftermarket brake pads? Im considering replacing the pads to whatever else that some1 can recommend that wont screech but isnt standard ... perhaps endless cc-a? Or would i just get the same problem?

Or should i just change the rotors to something like slotted dba? Or will there still be screeching?

Im just basically looking for the cheapest option to get rid of this embarassing screech ...

Secondly, it came with the top of the line premium audio sound equipment ...

The head unit is a dvd/sat nav single unit released from nissan, and somehow connects to the top screen as i was able to access some menus through it .. dont exactly know what parameters were accessed ...

My concern now is ... if i was to upgrade my audio and remove the factory sat/nav unit, does that mean i loose the certain menus that were accessible via the single din unit? I ask this because i dont seem to be able to access the same menu/options with the buttons located just underneath the screen which lets me toggle through monitoring stuff like boost, temps etc etc. Am i doing something wrong? Are the same menus/options that are accessible from the head unit, accessible from the buttons underneath/around the screen?

Has anyone successfully translated the jap stuff?

And finally, is it possible to use the factory screen as an output screen for dvd/music clips in conjunction with the factory monitoring of boost, temps etc? Like switchable between the 2?

Cheers and thanks for the help guys

You'll pick more info in the Brakes subforum than from me, but in essence, metal compound brakes will squeal and especially whilst the pads and rotors are anything but hot. You should notice (in other words) that with heavy repeated application of your brakes, that the squealing will stop. This is quite normal. Metal compound will tend to wear your discs down quicker, but the upshot of them is that depending on what type you have, they're quite 'grabby'.

I have Nismo pads on Fish-hook slotted DBA rotors (new setup), and they'll still squeal a bit.

well I'm guessing your pads are in good shape with plenty of % left over?

metallic pads can screech but I'm not sure whether it is due to the fact that its metal to metal or the pad indicators are showing they are worn.

before you come in to conclusion in replacing pads... have a look with the wheel off if you can. in alot of the cases, if a pad has about 3 - 5mm left...

there is a metal clip that clips on the pad & when its worn it will come into contact with the disc...purposly making that sound so that you know it needs attention.

a new pad should have about 10mm or padding... if they are new ..there is a product they sell at automotive retailers called "Copper grease" it is specially designed to be put between your brake pad and disc to reduce squealing sound without affecting the performance of braking.

also i recall in memory, people who wash their cars immediately after driving...wetting the disc's and pads with cold water/hose...can risk causing warping in the disc.

this can cause unwanted squealing or vibration when braking.

I'm not too sure in regards to the MFD, but someone has hooked a lap top computer with the MFD & using it as a 2nd screen and replaced it with a touch screen from an independent manufacture as well... it may not be exactly what you want, but I'm sure he would be suitable to ask this question and seems like hes got the MFD all figured.

person on the UK forum residing in New Zealand...

ill post you the link if your interested.

I have the same problem with mine, i thought my pads were worn but when i got them checked by the mechanic, he said there was plenty of meat on the pads (which are nismo branded on the stock discs)

I bought bendix ultimate pads as a replacement so hopefully they will fix the squeeling + ill machine the discs to make them level.

I can watch DVD's through my MFD screen. You need a head deck that can take PAL as an input and play NTSC as an output. I have a JVC head deck that does it. I just put a DVD in and press the TV button on the MFD and its movie time.

Yeap, the pads have plenty of meat left ... so it def isnt the indicator

Mechanic has checked out the discs and they seem fine ... he said its most likely the pads ... n that even if i was to change to say Endless CC-A (top street level pads / entry level performanec pads) [both my mechanic and i have used them on our s15s with no noise issues], there will be a chance that they will still screech but perhaps just not as bad...

was hoping maybe some1 on here might have experience or seen or heard of solutions or brake combos that are not annoying?

i notice that cars equipped with brembos, tend to squeek .. for eg other gtrs, evos etc ... however mine are just beyond embarassing lol

And YES PLEASE SIR! can you post the link? cheers!

Mmm im not too keen on bendix ... however let me know how you go! :(

Would you happen to know how your JVC deck is hooked up to your MFD? Do you still have your standard deck or did u get rid of it?

Would you happen to also know if the functions/menus accessable from the standard unit is accessible via the buttons underneath the MFD?

Just need to know how the MFD interface is suppose to interact with an aftermarket deck ...

Cheers

JB HI fi hooked it up for me so I dont know what goes where unfortunately. Mine came from Japan with a NTSC head deck Mini Disc player that was pretty much useless here so I got them to rip that out and put the new JVC head deck in. About 1km of wires came out of the car as it also had a Japanese sat nav system in it. Where the sat nav system was is now just a plastic cut out section thing that I can put stuff in.

ok ill forward you the link shortly

by the way the most interesting thing this person did to his MFD...it has Tire pressure monitoring

apparently as well as other interesting that can access things like music, videos, dvd's, radio, internet, phone (via blueooth integration), satellite navigation (Garmin), OBD integration, Wifi, Bluetooth & Valentine 1 radar detector

I just took off my stock v-spec ii brembos and they had nismo s-tune pads,

they were great. No squealing under any circumstances and I didn't find their

limits but they have them, being street/track pads rather than track/street pads!

they were replaced with stoptechs using A1RM (or K750) pads I for from melbourne,

and so far no squeal, but they are rated for higher temps than the s-tune pads.

What is the quality like on the screen?

Mmm ok ... after much contemplation ... i will most likely be going with a carputer setup which will also work in conjunction with the standard mdf

Let u guys know how it goes

Still gotta hear more opinions and ideas on my brake issues >.<

I have Project MU rotors and pads on my car. They squeal a bit. Just need to stomp on them all the time and they shutup.

Hehe true!

Hot = no squeal

Cold = squeal (depending on brake pad compound eg metal etc)
