High Powered Vehicle Restrictions, P Plater In A V35?

Hey guys, new to Skylines Australia, searched but nothing specific has come up.......

Iv'e been thinking of buying a V35 for a while now and im on the new Reds P's (Shit or what?) i obtained my P's After the imposed High Powered vehicle restrictions came into place for P Platers who obtained their liscense After July 1st 2007. i checked out the Vic roads site and it stated,

1)"The previous power to weight restriction will continue to apply to any probationary driver who obtained their licence before 1 July 2007."

2)"However, if a probationary driver with a pre-July 2007 licence has a car that does not meet the power to weight restrictions, but it does comply with the new high powered vehicle restrictions effective from July 2007, then the probationary driver may drive the car."

So this leads me to my point, is it worth buying one and winging it on these provisions? As stated, by the sound of things, i am legally aloud to drive a V35, even though the 350Z is on the banned list, but this isnt a 350Z, as i have found a loop hole in the law, also, has anyone ever been pulled over in a V35 and the cop/cops have no idea about the car, as in they've never seen one etc etc, or does anybody know a p plater who owns a V35 who i could talk to?

And secondly, if it does turn out to be illegal, what r the chances of being fined for driving a high powered vehicle? from my expirience, i doubt the average cop would know that the car is a "high powered vehicle" just by looking at it, unless he/she knows much about V35's

I kind of hinted to this in another thread, so sorry if any problems arouse, plz dont flame me, I bruise easily.

man no chance, im on green p's with 5 months left and I cant even get that....im under the 125kw per tonne/3.5L rule although I can drive some turbo cars etc.

Yeah but as Vic raods state, the old laws dont apply to me, and you can drive a V35; because it meets the new laws, even though it is over the 125kw per tone rule, read my first post for clarification.

How so? it says on the vic roads website that i dont, unless Vic Roads is lieing :laugh: , or ive just miss inturpreted it (Spelling....) either way im not trying to shit you or anyone else here, but i want some hard evidence or advice, before i go buying a car i possibly cant drive legally, would like some clarification first before forking out 30 G's of hard work thats all. thanx for the input though.

Anybody been through the same problem as me? or know anyone who has or might be able to help? would greatly appriciat some feedback cheers.

the new red P's a considered absolute shit for a reason....mainly because they are extremely restricted due to amount of passengers aloud etc....I think you may have mis-read somthing on vic roads because theres no way that the new red P's are aloud to drive a 206kw V35 and the pre july07 green p's are not.

Like i said, i am just trying to find out if this is a legitimate loop hole in the law, becuase if so, then by law i will be protected.........Hopefully, unless a cop says "hey, this is the same engine found in the 350Z.......your gone" but as said, its a different car.

The post 2007 laws are in addition to the previous laws, they do not replace.

The previous power to weight restrictions will continue to apply for drivers who obtained their probationary licences before 1 July 2007.

There have been that many threads on this, and VicRoads the above is very clear on the website.

It is illegal - simple as that. End of the day, same as every other thread, its YOUR CHOICE to take the risk of loosing your license.

If you read and understand it, please confirm so i can lock this thread. We don't need yet another one on the subject.

Lock the thread...... i take it ur an admin, hhmmmmmm, well to clear things up looks like ill just have to call vic roads, nd as you've quoted, yes, ur correct the previouse power to weight restrictions still aplly, but only for people who obtained there liscense before july 1st, is it just me or has anyone read my evidence, or is it just me. Dw then, ill call vic roads and get it straight from the horses mouth, i just hope i dont get a shit opperator who isnt very expirienced.

Dude it's really simple, if you got your license before 1st July 2007, you are still bound by the 125kw/tonne rule as well as 3.5L/1000Kg. You cannot drive the v35 legally. The new rules are even more restrictive.

In addition to the law stating you are not allowed to drive a 350GT, most police will be tipped off to the illegality by the word Skyline plastered across your boot which most V35's have.

That may leave you with the option of scrubbing or an Infinity, but the former is expensive and the latter fairly rare (and may still have the skyline badging - I am unsure).

Hahaaaaaa, just rang Vic Roads and they confirmed that i was right about the fact that i dont incure the power to weight restrictions, in other words they dont imply to me, as i got my liscence last year. after july 1st.

Secondly, i was told that a nissan skyline V35 does apply with the new restrictions, as the opperator knew about the car i was talking about and even pulled up some government fact sheet they have in their records.

i talked to him about the fact that it has the same engine as the 350z, but it is heavier, due to a longer chassie, a rear cabin, extra materials etc etc.

He said it was abit of touch and go, and said that to be 100% sure i should send in my question in writting to the Vic Roads motor something something office in Kew, where their policy workers are, and who could clarify my inquiery.

Ill let you all know as to how it all goes, i doubt it'll work but there is always hope.

No, you are unfortunately wrong.

The Power to weight ratio law has been there since the 1990's.

As it states for AFTER july 1 - "in additon", which means there was already P-2-W law that existed, they now apply with the ADDED listing from the Gov't Gazette.

VicRoads are wrong, as they often are, about their own laws.

      Hi all,   I’ve got the biggest lot of problems with my R33 GTS-T   It was a freshly rebuilt 25th anniversary RB25DET (plastic cas, neo cams) probably 6 years ago now   The engine was running so well but I fkd up badly and trusted someone I’d known for 10 years that was well known around Plazmaman for his welding and fab work. I added a lovely photo of some of his previous work. Not sure why my car was worked on by whoever did this shit     I’m normally someone who would never open myself up to something like this, I still can’t believe I did it. Trusting him literally fkd it all up for me. Everything has been a struggle, like it’s almost been 6 years that’s how much I’ve just on and off been trying to work it all out.    All I wanted was a car that danced down low, like full boost from around 3~3500rpm to redline, don’t really care what power it puts down (if it ever does) but I just wanted it to be quick to get on it.    He recommended the turbo to get, I picked Hypergear but he told me to get the front 4” with a T4 and 0.68 rear housing.    I was expecting all these beautiful welds, tidy fab work and paid for it to be ready to go to a tuner when I got it back.    I got a car back that was an absolute mess, I actually couldn’t believe it was my car anymore. I don’t think you could even call what he did welds, they’re disgusting.    So I stripped everything he touched off it and with every bolt I loosened it just got worse and worse.    I covered it and literally built and finished another car in the meantime but now it’s getting to the point where I really want my Skyline back.   Its a struggle because I paid him to do all this shit because I didn’t know how to and now I’ve had to try and figure it all out omg    Please excuse the bird shit horrible welds, I’ve got my show pony car and am so beyond dealing with this car I don’t even really care at this point.    If someone told me about what he did to my car I wouldn’t have believed them but it happened to me. It was unbelievable. He went missing, my car went missing, it came back missing parts, the straight af chassis rails bore the scars of being dragged up a trailer backwards, even the sandwich plate was bent. Everything was leaking and open to whatever fell into it, rounded off/ missing bolts, power steering oil and coolant everywhere, no gaskets, parts stolen off it, even managed to damage the sump pan.   Promised me he’d finish the car, knew what it meant to me, I paid him thousands and thousands just for him to trash it. He told me he was fully licensed and insured, come to find out he’d cancelled his ABN, so obviously no insurance. I had laid up insurance on the car and would’ve been covered but I was scared they would’ve written it off or because the business was no longer trading I’d still be liable.    He was supposed to:  New fully custom mild steam pipe exhaust manifold with turbo location moved from factory position to high forward mount. (I don’t know if it is a mild steam pipe, I’ve got a funny feeling the waste gate isn’t in a very good position and I don’t think the outlets off each cylinder are equal) 4” custom stainless steel dump with external gate (he re-plumbed it) Cut and shut OEM intake manifold with throttle reposition (I ended up doing the throttle reposition) Box in pod filter (left out) New 100cel catalytic converter (pretty sure it’s there but unsure if it’s 100cel) Front mount intercooler piping fabricated to suit (all smashed up and rusty holes where he was supposed to make it look standard where fmic piping passes through. I don’t even think my front bar is going to fit 🙄) Custom 5” intake pipe from pod to turbo (didn’t come with it so had to do something to make it work with the Z32 afm)   Engine: Full cylinder head service & machining  Brand new valves Precision upgraded spring kit Engine block honed New bearings  New piston rings  New ARP conrod bolt kit New ARP head studs Cometic head gasket VRS kit   ATR43SS2 ball bearing turbo 0.68 rear housing  Turbosmart 45mm external wastegate (got delivered to the fab bloke, I’ve got no idea what spring is in it, I’m assuming the one that came pre installed) Walbro 260 fuel pump  Nismo 740cc injectors (tested to 880) Spitfire coil packs GCG FMIC RB25DET manual 5 speed 4:11 rear diff   I’ve got an Apexi Power FC in it atm, I was hoping to just get it to operating temp to make sure everything was okay before towing to a tuner but it’s over-fuelling too much. I don’t think that’s going to happen so i think I’m going to get either a Link G4 or Haltech for it. What do you guys recommend? I can’t work out the power FC so just gonna give up on that one     It’s got an exhaust leak coming from somewhere I can’t see 🙄    The fuel pressure was steady but now it like drops from 40 to 20psi randomly (noticed this yesterday)    I’ll attach pics of the shit he put on my car and the engine bay now as it sits    I really just need some help, I need a tuner in Sydney I can trust, I’d like to be with the car while it’s being tuned if possible, I know it looks terrible but unfortunately I’ve just got to put up with it for now and fix the cosmetic stuff later   Do you guys think the manifolds are going to be okay? Or do I throw the exhaust manifold and try again?   I don’t even think these combinations are going to work tbh   I know everything I fitted was rated to be able to take at least 400kW but most rated higher    If you’ve gotten this far I really really appreciate it 🙏 I don’t mind if you trash me or the car, I made a rookie error and f**k I’ve paid for it. As you’ll see 🙄

      Hmm. I've gotten pretty good outcomes from talking to them about things that I've had go wrong or ideas for improvement. Have had a lot to say about the R32 FUCAs, and they have sent out some replacement parts for those, gratis, on a couple of occasions. Mind you, I have bought a couple hundreds of $ of replacement rod ends for them too!
